Monday night

Hi everyone--

This won't be a long post but I wanted to check in. I had my tooth extracted this afternoon. It is sore but not too bad right now. I am taking ibuprofen and am back on the antibiotic ( as a precaution.) I was supposed to have it pulled last Monday but came down with stomach flu Sunday night so had to postpone. Sigh...I was pretty sick for three days and could not eat much. This winter has been rough.

We did make the trip to Maryland last Sat. for the birthday party. Had a good time and it was good to see Karen and family. (This was a first birthday party for her niece.)

Sandi--hope your mouth is ok now.

Margie--happy belated birthday to Gavin!

Donna M--happy belated birthday to your dd!

Trudy--I agree someone should be held accountable for the mold.

Amanda--the weather is crazy isn't it? I am real tired of these little storms every few days. I am ready for spring! Not sure how the Phils will look but looking forward to the season starting.

I finished the Feehan book. It was a good read. I am now reading the new JAK book, Dream Eyes and it is good.

I watched the Oscars last night. It is becoming harder to watch except for certain times during the show. The host was horrible Imho. Too many tasteless jokes. Will they ever change this format of starting the show with this nonsense?

I hope everyone is doing ok and staying healthy. Have a good week!

Hi Everyone

Trudy,  It is always that way with installers.  You have to wait in four or five hour windows which is so inconvenient.  I do not like doing yard sales and it is really discouraging when they are a bust but at least you got to practice your French!

DonnaM, Happy Birthday to your daughter.  Yes, G is 4 now and I can't believe it.  I agree that if you get a surface it is better to think of it as getting a new computer.  I think that is basically what it is just a convenient size to carry around.  One of my co-workers brought some bread to the office.  It was like a Cinnamon roll loaf with walnuts.  They picked it up in some French bakery in your town.  It was yummy.

Amanda,  G was so happy on his birthday.  He loves to be outside and it was a very nice day.  Then we went to the jump house place and he had a blast.  How is your new book club read going?  I went to the library this Saturday to browse the romance section.  I was super surprised to see Fifty Shades of Grey on the shelf so I grabbed it.

I've been wanting to see what all the talk was about and I was surprised to see it on the shelf because it had had such a long hold list when I checked recently.  I am now over halfway through it and I am really enjoying it.  I'm really surprised at how much I really liked the two characters and want them to be happy.  I know this is a trilogy and, since I am liking book one, I figured I had better get holds on the other two books.  I checked and my library had book two available in e-book so I downloaded it.  They also have book three on the shelf now so hopefully it stays there until I can go get it.

I watched the Oscars while I read.  Some parts were a bit slow to me.  I'm not sure that I liked Seth McFarland.  I wish Billy Crystal or Ellen had hosted.  I think they are so funny.

Have a good Monday.
Margie

Sunday night

Thank you everyone for you condolences about Sharon.  It has been very difficult to say the least.  Surprisingly, I've had more sympathy from total strangers (you're not among them) than my family from whom I've heard nothing.  I know she's in a better place but it's a big hole in my life; she was a major support for me.

I spent tonight getting my taxes ready to go.  Have to in order to keep my Senior discount on my property taxes.  I hope I remembered everything!  My former accountant once told me that I like to "get blood out of a stone;" this one remembers that statement.

Last week, I made arrangements to switch from Verizon to Bright House for home phone and internet service starting tomorrow, Monday.  Bright House was supposed to notify Verizon.  Imagine my reaction when I got up Friday and I had no internet and no home phone service! NOT HAPPY!!!!  When I called Verizon, the lady was so, so nasty to me and refused to check and see where the problem occurred.  Oh yes, I'll be reporting her.  Then I called Bright House and they said that they'd move the installation up to Friday afternoon between 4-8.  At 7:30, I called to see where I was on the list only to find out that I was scheduled not for Friday but for Sat. between 2-4! :(  I wasn't going to be home on Sat!!  Well, another call on my cell and she assured me that she could get it changed to 6-8 on Sat.  So Sat. I traveled 34 miles to my girlfriend's house for another unsuccessful yard sale and the installer called me at 1:30 and said that he was ready to install my equipment! :(  I told him that I wasn't home and was an hour away and to call me in an hour to see where I was on my way home; I'd meet him after I got home.  It took me an hour and 15 minutes to pack up and drive home, speeding all the way; he was sitting outside my door when I got here!  I've exceeded my minutes on my cell phone for the month now too and I still have to wait and see what Verizon will do tomorrow when this all becomes official.

I made about $8 on Sat.  Half of that came when I conducted a sale to a man and wife from Haiti in French!!  It was fun selling something in another language.  I kept slipping back into English b/c I couldn't think fast enough in French; fortunately the husband was fluent in English.  We haggled and they laughed with me over it.  I also sold some of my friend's stuff to them as she wasn't there at the moment.

The only other good thing about trekking to Wesley Chapel on Sat was that I bought gas 10 cents/gallon cheaper than around me.  Where I live, it's selling for $3.79-$3.82/gal. and there's this one place that's kind of out in what's left of the boonies where gas was selling for $3.69 Sat.  Two weeks before, it was selling for $3.49 which was 20 cents/gallon cheaper than here.  Made the trip worthwhile!

I just finished reading The Warrior by Margret Mallory and Viking Warrior by Connie Mason.  I really enjoyed reading both books.  You know that I love historical romances anyhow and I probably need to read these right now as the present isn't a pleasant time for me at the moment.  Margret Mallory is a new-to-me author.

I hope you all stay safe from the storm that's coming this week!

Friday night

Hi Ladies!

The above pic is of my kitty Tigger.  I was changing the sheets on the bed, and he decided to take a nap - lol!

Trudy --  So sorry about Sharon.  No doubt she is in a better place, even though it is hard for you.  Glad you like your new mattress but sorry you are not sleeping more.  Can't believe the condo people won't do anything about that mold.  Don't they know it can kill you?  Is there anyone you can go to?  Amazing how no one takes responsibility for anything anymore.

Donna --  The pictures are great, as always.  Wish I could see flowers blooming here, but sure not with the cold (snow is long gone).  Gas prices aren't quite as bad here yet ($3.65 last weekend for regular).  It just pushes the price of everything up with it, which totally sucks.  And they wonder why no one is out buying stuff <shocker>.   Happy b'day to your oldest.  Didn't realize we were so close in age (I was 43 last month).  My mom says the same things as you - hahahaha.

Sandi -- How are you feeling?  Wisdom teeth coming out sucks.  Had my bottom both taken out 20 years ago - what a nightmare.  Mom had to go to 3 pharmacies to get my prescription filled and what they gave me for pain wore out before she got home.  Thought I would die!  I did mine on a Friday but was able to go back to work on Monday.  I remember when I had them done mostly because it was opening day for the Summer Olympics - lol.

Mary -- Are you ready for Spring yet?  I know I am!  This cold weather can leave anytime it wants, that's for sure.  How do you think the Phillies will do this year?  I see spring training is under way.

Margie -- Gavin is 4 - wow!  How time flies.  I hope he enjoyed his day.   Did he get to do anything fun?

I've read a little bit this month.  Finished the last book club book - And Then She Killed Him.  It was written pretty much like reading a police report.  Not bad, but not exactly a flowy story.   I would have liked to have known more about her first husband (who committed suicide - supposedly).  Not so sure about that since she killed the second one (no smoking gun found though, so she was convicted on all circumstantial evidence.  I would have rung her up).  I also read Red-Hot Santa by Tori Carrington (blaze).   Really liked this one - the H/h have been best friends since they were 5.  They are one of my fav types of books.  I started reading next months book club pick - The Initiation of Ms. Holly.  This months topic is Erotica.  This book, no doubt, will be all sex.  Its interesting and I'm only a few chapters in.   Not my first book a bit on the wilder side, so we will see if I'm shocked at any point thru it.

Ok, off I go.  Taking a trip to Dover tomorrow to visit Treena and Matt.  Glad David goes since its suppose to rain all day.  I hate driving in it.  Should be a fun otherwise.  I can get some reading done on the way - woo hoo!  Will pick something else instead of the bc pick though:)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Amanda

Thursday, 2/21/2013...

Hi Everyone,

First of all, I want to apoligize for that huge rose picture.  Not just to sure what happened there!  Hopefully it won't happen again.

Yea, this stayed a normal size!  Most people in this area calls these tulip trees but they are really a part of the magnolia family.  They are very pretty when they bloom & very messy when they start falling off the trees.  There are several planted in front of our city hall.  They are all blooming now.  This was taken a couple of weeks or so again so now they are in full bloom.  After the blossoms fall the leaves will come out.

Trudy, I am so sorry that Sharon passed away but she is in a better place with no pain.  I know how hard it is to have a good friend missing from your life.  I'm sure she appreciated your friendship during her illness.
We had some rain earlier this week, not much but better than nothing.  Now it is sunny again & beautiful with temps in the low 60's.  Perfect, as it is not to hot!  Very cold at night with frost on the roof in the morning.  I'm not out there in it!  I just see it when I look out the window.  I do hope you manage to get rid of all your mold.  I have some in my bathroom that I cannot reach even on my step stool.  I need someone taller to help!

Sandi, it sounds like life has been busy for you.  I hope by now you are healed from having the wisdom tooth removed.  Mine was done so long ago that I don't recall much about it.  I think I had two done at two different times.  My oldest had all four of hers done many years ago.  She scheduled the removal on Thursday with Friday off work also figuring she would go back on Monday.  Wrong!  She developed an infection which led to a lot of problems.  She was off work at least a week.  It was a miserable experience for her.  At least since all four were done she knew it would never happen again!!  This was before she had children which are now 17 & 14 so as I said it was a long time ago.  Nice to know Brian found a job even though it may not be the best one.  It is good experience.  To bad your grandson is having problems with hearing.  I hope there will be something that can help him.  What was the Maya Banks event?  I haven't read her yet.  As of yet I have not seen any of the movies you mentioned.  At this point it will probably be when they come out on DVD.  Yes, I did watch the Super Bowl!  That seems like it was a really long time ago.  It was very hard to see the 49'ers loose.

Mary, did your trip to Maryland go okay?  I confess to not paying much attention to when you posted maybe that is coming up.  If so, enjoy & be safe.  Nice that you are getting to read.  I do like Cindy Gerard as I think I have mentioned before.  She has a new book out but I did not see it when I was at Target.  They only carrying a small selection of the authors I read.  I did buy two books though!!  The most recent ones by Karen Rose & Jodi Thomas.

Margie, how time flies!  Gavin is 4?  Seems he was just a baby a short time ago.  I can imagine how much fun he must have at those jump houses.  Are your enjoying your Kindle more now?  There are quite a few free books or very low priced ones.  Janelle Denison is another of my favorite authors.  Thanks for the comments about the Surface.  I may look more closely at what that offers instead of just getting a tablet.  I know it is kind of a combination tablet/laptop.  The price may keep me away except I should probably look at it as a computer purchase!!

Anyone else having heart attacks over gas prices?  Of course here in California we are always higher!  I paid $3.97 at COSTCO yesterday.  It hurts when my little car costs over $40 to fill up!  Everything else is higher also due to the gas prices.  Most of the stations are around $4.07-$4.09.  I even saw a Chevron charging $4.15!!  They are usually the highest priced.  I have managed to get some reading done since I was last here.  I read HRH by Danielle Steel which I found quite interesting.  The h is a princess in the tiny country of Liechtenstein.  After reading the book I decided that being a princess may not be much fun!!  I even looked the country up on Google!!!  I was curious.  Also I think when my oldest daughter went on her band trip to Vienna, Austria that they were in Liechtenstein, only briefly.  It is between Switzerland & Austria and is also a neutral country.  Bet you didn't know that!!!  The other book I read was Wild by Cheryl Strayed.  It is her story of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail from Tehachapi, CA. to the Oregon Washington border.  What a journey she had.  One reason I was interested in reading it was because my good friends in Sisters, OR., that I have mentioned, hiked the Pacific Crest Trail the length of Oregon many years ago.  At that time it was not as long as it is now.  You can hike it from the Mexico-California border all the way to the Washington-Canada border.  It is not an easy hike, you really have to prepare, be prepared & know what you are doing.  It certainly has no appeal for me.  Come night I want a bed, a shower, good food, etc.  That said you do see some amazing sightes & views.  You can just hike portions of it, of course.  That might be fun providing you just did a short daytime jaunt!!!

Tomorrow is my little girls birthday!  My baby!  She will be 44, oh my!!!!  Yes, I was 2 when she was born!!  That is something a work place friend use to say to me.  I am actually in touch with her through Facebook.  Facebook is handy sometimes!  I'm still changing things from my new Internet/email!  Who knew there would be so much to do!!

Here is another picture to say good bye until next time.  This is just some bricks on a driveway that has moss growing on it.  It is actually pretty & will dry up soon when it starts really getting warm.

Stay well Everyone.  Find time to read.  Enjoy life.
Donna M

Hi Everyone,

Trudy,  I'm sorry about your friend Sharon.  You were a good friend to her and I'm sure made her last days easier.

Sandi,  My friend also got the Surface because it is like a laptop.  She had this huge jumbo laptop.  To me it was more like a desktop that was pretending to be a laptop.  No way could you work with that on your lap.  What kind of event was the Maya Banks thing.  I've been reading her KGI series.

Mary, I hope your trip to Maryland didn't bring you too much snow.  I keep seeing nothing but snow for the East Coast.  It's been a while since I've read a CF book.  I really enjoyed the ones I've read so I'm not sure when I stopped picking them up.  I'll have to try one again.

Donna, Thanks for the information on Catherine Mann's free books.  I will check that out.

Amanda,  Brrr that looks so cold.  Pretty but cold!

I read a couple of free ebooks.  One was an older story by Janelle Dennison.  It was really cute about a young couple who are separated when the h dies.  Years later she is sent to be his guardian angel when someone tries to kill him and, even though her memories of their connection are blocked, there is still a pull between them.  I have the new JAK ready at the library but have had no time to go get it. We had a birthday party for G here yesterday.  He is four today which is his real birthday.  After everyone ate and had presents and cake, we took the kids to a jump house place.  There are five jump houses in a warehouse.  Kids just go from one jumpy to another as they wish. It is great exercise and they are all flushed and need to drink lots of water. G loves it there.  We booked two hours and he still wanted to keep on going.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Margie

Monday afternoon

Hello from a cold and sunny Florida!  I suppose if you live in the frozen North, 64 degrees seems like heaven to you but........I'm freezing!!!! wah, wah, wah!  This is Florida folks and the only thing about it is the sunshine.  There was a freeze last night but not where I live, thank heavens!

Yesterday, I went to the viewing for Sharon.  What can I say?  It was difficult.  I cried for the first time in over ten years.  Her memorial service will be March 2nd.  She will remain in FL until April because the ground is frozen in upstate NY and they can't bury her.  Her family should receive notification of her death from her estate this week and then the fireworks will fly.

Sandi~~Yuck, I know how you feel with your wisdom teeth!!  That's an awful thing to go through!  Glad that you're alright now.  I had three done at one time; ended up with a dry socket and looked as if my husband bopped me one on the chin!  Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I'm reading JoAnn Ross' Southern Comforts right now.  It's a book that HQ sent me.  I really don't like it; it's anything but genteel if you get my drift!  And the story line is chopped up with many sub-plots.  But I'll finish it in case HQ asks for a review of it.

How about Downton Abbey last night?  Wasn't that a real shocker?  I didn't see that coming at all.  They said that the actor didn't want to sign on for a fourth season and so they had to write him out permanently.  Did anyone watch the interview with Dame Maggie Smith on "60 Minutes" last night too?  She's quite a character herself and nothing like the one she plays in the show.

The mattress is definitely more comfortable but I'm not sleeping longer unfortunately.  The property mgmt. company lent me a dehumidifier that had been in a very moldy condo and as soon as they turned it on, I couldn't breathe!  In an hour, it filled the bottom of my bucket too.  I told them that I couldn't breathe with it on and that I thought it was because of the dehumidifier being in the moldy condo and that I wouldn't use it.  This was on Friday.  One of the board members got a bee in her bonnet about them lending me the thing to begin with and on Sat. afternoon, the man who owns the maintenance service showed up to remove the dehumidifier!  He took it back to the moldy condo and then another board member decided it wasn't necessary to turn it on!  Can you believe that?  So, here I am with mold in my condo and them telling me that it's my problem.  Well, I'm going to completely rearrange the furniture in my condo so that the corner where the mold occurred is open to the air.  It's going to take me months!!! :( :(

Time to go to the laundromat; am buying a new washer through Famous Tate but slowly (another long story).  Couldn't do it yesterday because of the viewing.  This is getting old!

Y'all have a nice day now, y'hear?

Trudy sorry to hear about your friend.  Hope the complex does something about your mold issues.

Friday I had one of my wisdom teeth pulled.  I slept the entire day and night with the exception of about a total of 3 hours.  The entire world could have ended and I wouldn't have known!  Saturday I moved to advil for pain and wore myself out an event with Maya Banks.

As of this writing it's been about 72 hours since I've had a coke.  I've also not had much food!  It's still a little hard to eat so I'm taking it easy.

I have Monday off becuase of President's Day.

That updates me!

Friday afternoon

Hi everyone!

Trudy--I am sorry to hear about Sharon but now she is at rest. I know how hard it is to lose a friend. She fought a good fight and you were her friend when she needed one. You should take comfort in that. I hope your new mattress works out for you. I at least rate my books on GR as soon as I finish then go back and review them when I have time.

Donna M--I loved the picture of the orange tree. Reminded me of the last time we were in Arizona. It was January and there was a lemon tree blooming outside our motel room. I love the book I read by Cindy Gerard. I will be reading more.

Amanda--how are you enjoying the changes in the weather. Nice today but the weekend is to be cold.

Sandi--Sorry to hear about Elijah's ears. Hopefully they will figure out what is going on when he has his appointment. Seems like a long time for a child to wait. I read Life of Pi and was wondering about the movie.  Perhaps I will see in on dvd at some point.

I finished reading Show No Mercy by Cindy Gerard and really loved it. I already have the second book in the series from the library. I also read Why Mermaids Sing by C. S. Harris and liked it as well. I am now reading The Samurai Game by Christine Feehan. I have read some of her books. This one is in her Ghostwalkers series and is good so far.

I hope everyone has a good weekend. We are attending a first birthday party for Jer's and Karen's niece on Saturday. We are driving to Maryland and hoping we only get a little snow overnight and it is not a problem.

Wednesday night

Thanks all for your wishes.  Sharon passed away Monday morning at 2:16; I was called at 5:45 a.m.  This week has been kind of lost to me but I've managed to do what was needed.  I feel like I did when my father died seven years ago; this is really hard.  She will be buried in upstate NY.

Amanda~~I enjoyed the pics of the snow; better you than me!  It didn't seem to hang around long, did it?  Today, I saw a photo of Boston from the air and posted it on FB; it was awesome to see it so white.  A cold front is on its way through and we'll have COLD temps this weekend, highs in the low 60's and lows in the 30's to low 40's.

Mary~~I'm enjoying seeing you and others on Goodreads also.  I try to post every time I read a book.  I still have a lot to learn about Goodreads.  You'll enjoy the Highlander trilogy.  Monica McCarty's Highland Guard just came out in a bundle book, try to read them too; I'm particularly taken with that series.  I have a Tell Harlequin survey to fill out but I only read one book that they sent me.

This afternoon I got my new mattress that I got under warranty from Famous Tate.  It's twice as thick as the old one!  I might need a ladder to get on the bed!  LOL!  I just hope that I'm able to sleep at night now.

As for the mold, I contacted our property management company after my cleaning lady found more mold in my bedroom yesterday.  I asked to have the foundation waterproofed which really isn't a big deal.  What I'm getting is a borrowed dehumidifier from another association which will be delivered at 8:30 a.m. (ugh) tomorrow.  My washing machine is still broken; been going to the laundromat since Thanksgiving and it's getting old.

Time for bed if I'm to get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow (ugh)!

Look a Stranger!

Donna, I think what you think are bad pictures would probably be excellent pictures for me!

I have been really enjoying reading on my kindle/Ipad/Nook...whichever device I end up choosing at any given time.  Lately I've been reading on my IPAD because I take it to and from work, and it's just easier to keep it on one device.  Did you watch the Superbowl?  I didn't watch any of it, and have only seen like two commercials that I know were part of it.  Might have seen others, but am clueless!

Mary and Donna H.  I am sorry I missed your birthdays.  I hope you both had a great day.  Did either of you do something special?  Get something special?

Margie, a friend of mine just got a Surface.  It's a pretty cool machine.  I really enjoyed it for a few minutes that I played with it.  She wanted it because it could do things much like a laptop, and being able to add the Nook/Kindle apps was just a bonus for her.  What I'm basically saying is she really needs a laptop, but at times that's just bulky to lug around, so with the surface she can carry something smaller, and still be as productive as ever.

Trudy, how is the mold treatment going?  We were worried about mold when we had to replace our laundry room walls.  There was some but not as much as we feared, so it was easier to fix than we had hoped.  Until I got my new job I was being somewhat successful in my dejunking efforts, but lately I've stopped.  Really need to get back to it!

Donna, I'm with you I'd rather be hot than cold.  Today I went with Richard to a bowling tournament and it was freezing.  It was warmer outside than in that center!  Did you enjoy Perfect Fit?  I have that in my TBR but haven't read it yet.  There are just so many books, and so little time!  I really want to read that Joann Ross series that you're reading, but haven't gotten to any of them!

Amanda was the scent thing SCENTSY?  Wax warmers?  I have a friend who sells that, one who sells Mary Kay, one who sells Avon, and one who sells Arbonne.  Thankfully they all sell different stuff, so I don't have to feel too conflicted!

Mary, glad to hear that the dental work is going smoothly.  I have to remember to pick up my meds on Tuesday.  I know I won't have time on Wednesday, and who knows what Thursday will bring, and I need them by Friday!  Did you make it to the movie yet?

My book club has been going to see the Oscar Movies.  I haven't gone to all of them, but I went to Life of Pi, Les Mis, and Silver Linings Playbook.  I have to say that I enjoyed them all, and was really surprised to like Life of Pi as much as I did.

Trudy, I don't blame anyone for not swimming in 70 degrees.  I'm not sure if I would be warm or cold.  It would I think depend on how much sun there was and if I were in the shade or not.  Did you all have fun?  That's the important part!  I'm sorry to hear about Sharon.  Hopefully her passing is easy.

Amanda, glad you didn't get snowed in.  To me any snow is too much!  I really like living in an area where we don't typically have snow.

Did I miss a post about Sharon passing away?  I didn't see one, but I could have easily missed it.

I've been really busy with crazy hours at work, and not feeling accomplished anywhere!  I recently discovered Lisa Gardner and have listened to 5 of the books in her D.D. Warren series.  I think I'm going to have to enroll in audible once again so that I can continue the series, because at this point the library doesn't have the next one that I need.

I'm currently listening to Low Pressure by Sandra Brown.  It's pretty good and I have listened to a little more than 2.5 hours of it thus far.  I could get some good listening time in this week as I have a recruiting that I have to do in Ft. Worth, and I know that's at least a good hour drive each way!  I also need to have the GPS on, so we'll see what I end up doing!  I'm reading a Susan Wiggs book that comes out in May...The Apple Orchard.  I'm not really in the mood for it, so I'm sure it's much better than I think.  I'm also reading a book called Damaged Goods by Alexandra Allred.  It's also taking a long time because I'm trying to read it when I have down time at work, which lately is not much!

Brian finally got a job.  He's delivering pizza for Dominoes.  I'm not necessarily thrilled about that, but for his ADHD it's a pretty good deal!  He's making some good money, and hasn't asked me for any since he started.  He and his girlfirend broke up, but they're still friendly and in fact are supposed to bowl a tournament together this summer.

Richard is still living at home.  Elijah has some hearing issues, which we will know more about after he goes to the ENT in April.  Hopefully he can get a sooner appointment, but that's when he's scheduled at the moment.

Hope everyone is doing good and staying healthy, or getting healthy again!

Sandi

Saturday, 2/9/2013...

Good afternoon to Everyone,

The above picture was taken in January.  Trudy, oranges on the tree should look pretty normal to you!  I like the way the sun was hitting the leaves & the brick walk was in the background.  I love taking the camera when I go out for a walk because I "look" more!!  Despite the sun it was a cool day only in the 50's & with a breeze.

Trudy, I am so sorry about Sharon.  You will always miss her but I am sure knowing her has brought you joy & friendship.  Having someone you care about pass away is never easy.

Oops!  Laundry calling, I will come back.  Okay I'm back!!  Got into a discussion with a neighbor.

Margie, the Super Bowl was a disappointment since "we" didn't win but at least the game wasn't a total lopsided blow out.  I was pretty concerned at the end of the first half & not to optimistic.  At least the Niners played ball the second half.   When they returned on the plane there were fans there to greet them & let them know they are still fans.  I thought that was great.  Sorry to hear you still have a cough.  Hope it goes away soon.  Both you & Mary mentioned wanting to seeing Silver Linings Playbook, a friend of mine saw it & gave it high praise.  I haven't been to a movie in ages.  I see them on DVD here at home but that is not the same.  There have been several I would have liked to see.

Amanda, thanks for the "snowy" pictures.  To me that is a lot since we don't get it around here.  In Medford where I grew up we did get some snow usually once or twice a year.  The mountains around us, the Siskiyou's & Mt. Pitt always got snow.  Mt. Pitt is really Mt. McLaughlin on the maps!  I've posted pictures of it here, I think, that I took when seeing my brother.  I'm just glad you & Mary haven't been hit super hard with this storm.

Mary, it sounds like you had a good birthday.  The food sounds sooo good.  If I can get myself in gear I will make Minestrone soup today although at the moment it doesn't look like a soup day!  However, the nights are cold.  The roof I see every morning was frosty today but melted away quickly.  Glad to hear things are going well with your dental work.  I have had deep cleaning, not a favorite thing of mine!  Going to the dentist is not a favorite thing of mine!!  It sounds like you are reading some good books.  I've been reading Cindy Gerard for several years.   She is pretty much an auto buy.  I do not have her latest but hope to have it soon.

I have three birthdays bam, bam, bam!  First my youngest grandson on the 16th, then my younger daughter on the 22nd of this month, then next month my oldest grandson on the 20th of March.  He will turn 24!  OMG, how did that happen!!  It all goes way to quick.

I need to go eat lunch before  the laundry is ready to come out of the dryer.  So I better tell you I read Catherine Mann's Guardian, a Black Ops series book.  I enjoyed it as I always do her work.  Now I am reading a non-fiction.  I was going to post the cover but it was huge!

Here is another picture instead of a book cover!  This pretty little rose was bravely blooming in January.  How could I not take a picture?!

Everyone have a good weekend.  Find time to read.  Margie, Catherine Mann has some free ebooks available.  Go to her website to check it out.

Take care, Mary & Amanda stay safe,
Donna M

Saturday morning

Hello Ladies!

So this pic was taken around 11 pm last night.  As you can see, it was snowing - lol.   We didn't get more than this.  The streets are nice and clear (no I wasn't out - David took Aurora bowling and there is no snow on our street).  It will be in the low 50's and rain on monday, so it will then be all gone.

The snow at 8:15 this morning.  As you can see, David was cleaning the cars off.  Can't miss that hunting hat anywhere:)  The sun is very bright and the winds are making it feel like its in the teens instead of 30, which is probably about what it is.

Ok, off to put clothes in the dryer.  Flyers come on soon - yeah!  This is definitely a lazy, indoor day for me:-)

snowy night

Hi everyone!

The snow has started here. We are not supposed to get a big storm but time will tell. Tomorrow is to be cold and windy but the snow should be out of here by then.

Margie--good you stopped in to post. We are hearing more and more about the end of the Superbowl and things that went on. We really don't like the Ravens in our family. I wish all  the talk would stop. It sounds like your family is like ours when it comes to football. We love the Steelers and Jer's family are Eagles fans so we have some lively discussions. The kids cheer for both teams. When it comes to baseball we are all Phillies' fans so there are no debates.

Trudy--I am truly sorry to hear about your friend Sharon. She is exactly 1 year younger than me. Too young to die. I have lost some good friends over the years and too young. I pray that her passing is peaceful. I am enjoying reading stuff on Goodreads too. I am spending more and more time on there now that I hardly ever go on Harlequin.com. I love Scottish romances set in any era. I have the other two books in MacLean's trilogy so I will read them at some point.

I finished Murder by Mocha and really enjoyed it. If you like cozy mysteries I would recommend these books. I am currently reading Show No Mercy by Cindy Gerard. It is the first book in her Black Ops, Inc. series. I have always wanted to try her books. This first book is good so far.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. We will be dealing with the snow and staying hunkered down here.

Mary

Friday night

So we're babies, huh?  Twenty years in a tropical climate will do that to you.  My blood has thinned to the point that no matter how much I'd like to move back to York, PA, I know there's no way I could stand the cold anymore.  But it was a sunny day and that made it a lot warmer than expected so I did wear shorts and a tee shirt! Ha! Not too many people went swimming though as it barely hit 70 and even the most hardened snowbirds wouldn't face those air temps after the heated pool.  Oh, and while the snow is falling up North, we'll have mid-70's and sunshine over the weekend; there are times when I wouldn't change Florida for all the tea in China! :)

Mary~~I'm enjoying reading your posts on Goodreads.  Glad you enjoyed Julianne MacLean's book; I read all three in the series and loved them (really into Scottish medieval romances).  Saw that they expelled the student who started the fight, good!

Mary and Amanda~~Please stay safe this weekend, although the weather reports don't show you getting the amount of snow as NYC and points north.  However, you'll get enough to be dangerous.  I've been watching all my sites all day and will all weekend if I can.

I've been to Madame Toussuad's in London many years ago.  My mother always talked about going there when she was stationed there during WWII so I had to see it when I was in London.  Saw a man sitting on a bench that I could swear was real! LOL!  The guillotine room was scary though.

I've just about finished Karen Ranney's newest release, The Lass Wore Black.  It's really good and not what you'd think.  The story deals with the aftermath of a disfiguring accident, a lover scorned and a persistent physician/lover who wouldn't take "No" for an answer.  I highly recommend it.

Now for the bad news:  As I write this my friend Sharon lies at death's door.  The doctors can do nothing more for her.  She can't walk anymore as her back is broken (I think due to the cancer).  She can't talk and now she's sleeping a lot.  The end is near, like days or less.  Sharon turned 61 on Jan. 25th.  This is so hard for me.

Hi Ladies,

Amanda, Is Rue Paul in a fountain? I saw him recently on The Chew and he was not in drag. It was odd to see him in a suit because I've never seen him as a man. Cool picture of David and Montana. Yes, we had a SuperBowl party. We've been huge 49er fans since I was a little girland everyone would always get together at my parents home. Now we could not let the day go by without a BBQ. I decorated with all my fathers 49er stuff he used to have around his bar. I put red table cloths out and used them as centerpieces. It was a nail biter at the end and at least we all got to do some yelling and high fives before it was all over. Miranda Lee is one of my favorite Presents authors too.
I always get her books but I've missed the last one maybe two because I haven't ordered from eHarlequin for a while and haven't remembered to stop at Kmart.

Mary, Sorry you have to go through all that dental work but I'm glad to hear it is going well. Yum, your dinner of chicken marsala and the rest sounds so good. I felt so bad for Alex Smith when it was decided to keep Colin Kaepernick but he proved he could do so much with the ball....just too bad it didn't work out in the end. But he is very young so maybe next year. I've been wanting to see Silver Linings Playbook too. I normally go to the movies at least once a month but with all the sickness I never got out last month. I listened to The Third Victim on tape and I like it too. The weather report says we are due for rain but right now it has been nice days. I do feel in my bones that the rain is coming.

I still haven't started a new book. I'll have to browse the Kindle freebies or the library ebooks because I don't know when I'll get to the library.

Well, Good night, Enjoy your Thursday.
Margie ;)

Tuesday evening

Hi everyone!

I thought I better check in with everyone! I have been reading posts. It has been kind of quiet. Thank all of you for your birthday wishes. I did have a nice birthday. Don and I went out to dinner the day before my b-day because we were expecting a snowstorm. We went to Red Lobster where we had shrimp and I brought home a slice of Key Lime pie for dessert. Then the day after my b-day we went to Karen's for a family celebration. Jer made chicken marsala which was delicious and we had lemon tart and ice cream for dessert. We still have not gone to the movies but are planning to see Silver Linings Playbook when we do.

My other news is that my dental work is going as scheduled and going well. I did have some pain for a few days after the work last week. It involved four teeth and prepping them for caps. I have to have one of the teeth extracted so finishing everything will take a bit longer. He also put me on amoxicillin for 10 days. I am tolerating it pretty well except for some stomach upset. Today I had the other half of my mouth deep-cleaned. It is an on-going saga.

Donna H--Happy belated birthday wishes! I hope you had a nice birthday.

Donna M--so sorry about the 49ers. We were cheering for them and thought they might pull it out in the end. As Steeler fans we were not happy the Ravens won but it did keep our record in tact of the only team to win six SBs. I have been enjoying your pictures.

Trudy--I would love to have those temps here! We have had cold, windy, damp days and snow and expecting another storm on Friday.  Fortunately no big snow storms so far this winter.

Margie--I hope you and your family are well now. Sorry about your 49ers. I am impressed with Colin Kaepernick. Our local paper had an article about him on Sunday.

Amanda--I really liked all your pictures from NYC. Sounds like you enjoyed your trip. Guess we are getting a storm on Friday.

Sandi and Cady--hope all is well with you guys.

I have done some reading since I was last here. I read Captured by the Highlander by Julianne MacLean, The Third Victim by Lisa Gardner, and Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare. All three were good reads. I am now reading Murder by Mocha by Cleo Coyle and it is good so far. All of the books I have read this year so far have been good and I hope the trend continues.

I hope everyone is well and keeping warm this winter and that you haven't had any extreme weather to contend with. Happy reading!

Mary

Tuesday night

Hello Ladies!

I see its been quiet in here.  Everyone must be busy.  This picture is from Madame Tussaud's museum.  Its RuPaul.  It is stunning in person.  I should have taken a close up pic of it.  Most of the figures were spot on.

DonnaM -- Love your pics as always.  I wish it felt more like spring here.  It is still COLD!   And not no 68 that Trudy is getting in Florida.  I would not be wearing sweats in that weather either.   You will have to let us know if you get a good deal on the Nexus when, and if, you buy it.  I don't know anyone with one of those.  Sorry about the 49ers.  I was pulling for them.

Trudy -- Sorry your house feels more of a mess than normal.  Mold is never a good thing.  I hope you can get rid of all of it.  Anytime you want to send me some of that weather you have, I will be happy to take it - lol!  How is your gf with the cancer doing?

Margie -- Glad your mom is doing better.  Nothing worse than being sick.   Did you get to do the Superbowl party?  Sorry the Niners couldn't pull it out.  It was a nail biter at the end for sure.

Didn't do much this weekend, which was nice.  Went to a Tastefully Simple party on Friday night - which was fun.  Then on Sat night, we went to a friend of my gf Jen's who runs a no kill cat shelter.  She was in PetSmart, but pulled out, so all the cats are in her basement.  I will have to post the pics of I took of her house.  My mobile could fit in the living room/kitchen of hers.  Kitchen was awesome.  My mom was very jealous - lol.  Corina was having a bunch of home parties and the price of admission was cat food and/or a box of litter.  She had Dove Chocolate, Premier Jewelry, Mary Kay, Thirty One bags and some scent (not candles) deal I never seen before.  It was a nice time.

I haven't read much.  Finished a Presents last week - a Miranda Lee one.  I can't remember the title.  I enjoyed it.  Not surprising as ML is an autobuy for me.  I am now reading my book club book (its next week, I better hurry up) called And Then She Killed Him by Robert Scott (I think).  I'm not far in.  Its a true crime story.  The wife of the dead husband is a black widow, I'm guessing, as her last husband died too.  We'll see how it goes.

Ok, going to go throw some wash on before bed.  Wish it was Friday tomorrow instead of Wednesday.  How come the work day never moves as quick as my nights/weekends?  Seems unfair:(

Thought this pic was a good choice, considering we just had the Superbowl.  This is David's all time fav football player.

Have a good week everyone!

Amanda
Just a quick hello to everyone!

Donna, Yes...so sad the 49ers  didn't do a better job that first half.  They were really bad until the second half.  Too bad they didn't work like a team from the beginning.  The Raven's deserved to win it.
The bug is almost gone be the cough lingers on.  No reading for me...too tired but I'm getting back in the mood.  That sounds like a good deal on the Nexus.  I know you will enjoy it.

Have a good week.
Margie

Monday, 2/4/2013...

Hello to Everyone,

It has been awhile since I stopped in but all has been quiet.  I do hope that doesn't mean people are sick, just busy.  The picture above is from one of my walks when I took the camera along.  As you can see there are buds on this tree a sure sign that spring will be along someday.  I have noticed the last couple of days that the daffodils will be blooming soon.

First of all, let me get the sadness of the Niners not winning out of the way..  Really hard to take.  The Baltimore fans must be so excited.  Winning is really fun.  At the end of the first half I was down, then the Ravens came out with that spectacular touchdown right after the 3rd quarter started.  Wow!  Then the lights went out.  The Niners really got into the game but just couldn't quite get those last points needed.  So no football now until August when pre season starts!  Some of the commercials were outstanding, especially the Budweiser one with the Clydesdale colt that grew up.  It is on You Tube if you missed it.  They do have the best commercials with those beautiful horses.  The others that I liked were the "seniors" at Taco Bell that sneaked out at night & partied.  Too funny!  The others were The Farmer & the Jeep commercial that honored our military men & women.  All well done.

Margie, I do hope that the flu bug has left your household.  Sorry to hear that your Mom was so sick.  Did you get to have a Super Bowl party?  I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your Kindle & feel comfortable using it.  I can't wait until I can get a tablet.  I think at this point that I will probably end up with the Nexus 7 as it seems to be fulfilling my wants!  Office Depot has a good special going.  Hopefully it will last long enough that I get that deal which will include a cover, a protective cover for the screen & a stylus as a bundle.  Only time will tell!!

Trudy, I laughed that you are all sitting around in sweats by the pool at 68 degrees.  What a bunch of babies!  Here at 68 degrees we are breaking out the short sleeved shirts & shorts.  Some people around here, meaning the area, wear shorts all year round.  I see people bundled up sometimes that I wonder how they can stand it!!  Guess in my old age my system warmed up some as I use to be cold a great deal of the time.  I still am in some people's houses because they tend to like it cooler.  It is really strange how I hate being hot, really dislike being cold!!  Did you get to enjoy some Shakespeare on PBS?  My grandson that is in high school said they are studying Shakespeare now but he isn't thrilled with it.  They may make a trip down to Ashland, Oregon where there is a very famous Shakespearean theater for a play.  It would be an overnight trip.

Since I was here last I have managed to read a couple of books.  I read Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips, a Serendipity book & then The Choice by Nicholas Sparks.  Both good, both by authors I read but very different stories.  The Choice really tends to make you think about decisions you may have to make in life.  Sometimes there is no right or wrong.

Perfect Fit

Wow!  The Choice is huge!  I wasn't given an option to make it smaller!  Sorry!

Since that book cover is so huge I won't add anymore of my pictures!  Have a great week, find time to read & enjoy whatever the week brings you.
Take care,
Donna M

Friday night

Well, am I embarrassed! I am really late in wishing Mary and Donna Happy Birthday!  I do hope you both had a great one.  I'm sorry I haven't checked back in sooner or I wouldn't have missed your birthdays.

I hope you all are weathering the cold OK; I've been checking out my PA sites daily (love my pic of the Susquehanna River).  It finally hit Florida but, you'd probably be happy with our temps, ha, ha, ha!  Tomorrow, we're having a pool party but we'll all be sitting around in sweats as the high will only be 68 and there will be a cold North wind, thank you very much.

I'm sorry to hear people are sick with the flu, stomach bug, etc.  It's here too and I'm hoping and praying I don't get it.  I haven't gotten a flu shot in about 15 years b/c I kept getting bronchitis twice a season every time I did.  However, the number of people who've died from the flu is scary and they're mostly seniors of which I'm now part of that group.  I wash my hands thoroughly and often and try to stay away from large groups of people until this has passed.  Please get well soon.

I finished reading Captured by Helen Kirkman; it's a HH from 2007 which I picked up from the library book sale.  It takes place in 876 in the Warham area of Wessex and centers around the movement of the Viking army through the area and the efforts of King Alfred to stop them.  In the Viking army is a Mercian princess called Rosamund and her "maid."  Rosamund stumbles upon a beaten, chained man staked to the hard, frozen ground and immediately realizes that she can't allow him to die there.  So she engages in a game of dice with one of the generals and wins the man for her own use.  It turns out that Boda is a King's man and as he heals under Rosamund's care, they discover a fierce attraction for each other which could be lethal should it become known.  Also, neither Rosamund nor Boda are who they seem to be.  I had a lot of trouble following the story; I hope it's because I was tired most of the time I was reading it.  It was very vague which was a shame as I love historicals and this period isn't covered often.

Mary, it's a shame you don't get the Reading Eagle.  My friend sent me the article and that's a really good photo of my son, dil and youngest gs on the front page.  It would have been even nicer if I could have seen them in person; 5 1/2 years is a long time!

I have finally figured out how to do the Goodreads thing!!  I'm posting there and have caught up with my 2013 Challenge; whenever this one particular person posts I get an email about hers and then, I go in and do my thing.  LOL!

I still have my place torn up.  I found mold on my bedroom wall!  All my stuff from the back closet is in my living room.  I have boxes of TBR books all over the place.  I know I'm not neat but I have my limits and I've exceeded them.  I bought one tub and am trying to move things around, unsuccessfully. :(

Now I'm going to watch Shakespeare on PBS.  I think it's Henry IV.  Been wanting to see some Shakespeare for some time now.  Wonder if I'll talk funny afterwards?
