DonnaM, Just a quick note to say....I spoke too soon. It is raining so hard and has not stopped! I hope things are okay in your area. I saw it is raining really bad there.

Hi Ladies
Trudy, That is really good news about your friend Sharon and you financial situation. I'm glad that you can look forward to a brighter Christmas season with a bit of pressure off your shoulders. You remind me that I have to check the new plans for my parents prescription drug plan before the December 7th deadline.
DonnaH, I would like an exchange but, like Donna, I think next year would be better too. I really like the idea of a candle exchange rather than ornaments.
DonnaM, It's been really windy here for a few days and we had one day of rain. It is the worst when there is all that wind. You must be getting more rain in your area then here. It hasn't rained in a couple of days but it is expected to be here Saturday and really bad. I wonder how many ladies from other towns will decide not to come to the brunch because of it.
I have three more of the small trees in one of the other corners of the living room. I have them at differnt levels on the ground and on the table and put part of the village under them. I hate that this fireplace has no mantle. I would have loved to decorate it. The wreath is a bit small but it is the only one I have and I didn't want to buy a new one so it has to do this year.
I forgot to give the cookie recipe. It is just a simple sugar cookie one but they are really delicious and I always have family and friends ask if I've made them. My friend gave me the recipe but she rolls her dough out much thinner than I do so the cookies are hard and you can break them with a snap. She likes them to be crunchy. My family prefer them soft so I roll the dough somewhere between about a 1/4 to almost 1/2 inch thick. You can decorate them before you bake by dipping a finger in some milk and rubbing the top of the cookie then sprinkle colored sugar sprinkles on them and bake.
My family likes them to be frosted so that is what I do. It takes longer to frost them all but the taste is yummy. I do a confectioners sugar frosting but sometimes I have purchased the white Betty Crocker type frosting and it works fine just not as good a taste as the homemade frosting. Which ever frosting I use, I like to divide it up into small bowls so I can add different color food coloring. I frost the cookies one color and just use colored sprinkles on top of the frosting. You have to sprinkle when the frosting is still wet or it won't stick. You can get fancy and make designs but it is just takes too much time to do that. I leave the cookies out all night on the counter so that the frosting can dry and then the next day I can stack them in a tupperware container and they do not stick together. I like to double the recipe and freeze part of the dough for another day.
Here is the recipe: HOLIDAY COOKIES
1 Cup Margarine
1 Cup Sugar
1 and 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Egg
1 teaspoon Water
3 Cups Flour
1 and 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon Salt
Using a spoon, Cream Margarine, Sugar & Vanilla. Then add Egg & Water. Beat until light and fluffy (use a spoon). In a separate bowl, combine Flour, Baking Powder and Salt then blend into creamed mixture. Divide the dough in half and wrap them in plastic wrap or place in a bowl and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. (I've made the cookies without chilling and they turn out the same but the chilling makes it easier to roll the dough and lift the cut cookie onto the cookie sheet.)
When you are ready to make your cookies, just sprinkle a bit of flour on the board and roll out and cut your cookies. Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet. You can decorate with sprinkles before baking or bake plain and frost when cool.
Temperature depends on your oven. My previous oven had to be at 350 degrees. With this gas oven, I find I need the temp at 400 and bake the cookies for about 9 to 11 minutes. The cookies should be lightly golden on the bottom and you can see some golden color coming on the sides but sometimes just the bottle is golden. The tops are still whitish. If they bake too long they can dry out so play with baking a couple cookies to test your temp and time.
Once baked, wait about a minute or two before using a spatula to remove them from the pan. Removing them too soon could cause them to break. But don't wait too long or they could get a little stuck to the pan and break when you remove them. Put them on a cookie rack to cool. You can frost once they are cool or wait until the next day. They even taste good plain because of the sugar in the mix but they just won't look that pretty.
It's late now so I'll say goodnight!

Thursday afternoon, 11/29/2012...
Hi Everyone,
Here is another picture from Thanksgiving Day. This is still at Goat Rock Beach but another part & facing south instead of north! I love the action of the wave in this picture.
Trudy, high fives & big hugs that things are finally looking up in your life. Maybe add a "happy dance" in there too!! It sounds like your friend Sharon has some improvement. I hope that it helps her feel better. Some people seem to do better with chemo than others. Most people do get very sick from it. I certainly wish her the best. I can understand why you might be talkative after the day you had. Somehow after all that you just need to let it out!!
Margie, your living room looks so very nice. Great job on the decorating. I love that there is more than one tree. Makes me miss having a tree, but on for a little while! Since we are having all this nasty weather I had planned to stay in & get down my decorations. Well, that didn't happen! My neighnbor called me yesterday needing to go to the store. I did take her but I wasn't very gracious about it. She is a sweet lady with health problems but there are times that I think she forgets I have a life & am not housebound or inactive like she is. I don't mind helping her but the last minute request is sometimes hard to take. Whew! Sorry to vent! Thanks all for letting me.
Margie, you sound like the next couple of weeks are going to be busy for you. What will you make for the dessert portion of you progressive dinner. Sounds like fun. I've done those but it was a long time ago when I was still married & some of us just decided it would be a fun thing. Everyone in the group, couples, were good cooks which made it fun to plan & try to impress all those others that were good cooks!! I do love Christmas for all the festivities & decorations but at times I wish it was spread out more through the year!
Hi Donna, come back when you can to catch us up on you. We could have an ornament exchange but I vote for having it next year. I can put a reminder on my calendar for next year & we can make plans. Is everyone interested? I also vote for either an ornament or maybe a candle, we can each choose which, since I don't put a tree up anymore!!
You all know from my mentioning it that I volunteer on a Secret Santa Project that is all of Sonoma county. I picked out two of the red heart to fulfill that wish. I have all purchased for one of them except for a pen. You would think I had money to spend!! The other one I did some looking but didn't purchase. There is still lots of time.
Trudy mentioned that her birthday is next week. Let's all try to remember to wish her a Happy Birthday. She really deserves it this year! The date is: December 3rd.
We are getting soaked by rainstorms here. I had to go to Santa Rosa today to pick up something for one of my Secret Santa sponsors then deliver it in Cloverdale. By the time I had done all this I had put about 65 miles on the car! In nasty weather. There is no let up until next week & it really needed to be done as soon as possible. Maybe tomorrow I will really get to stay home & do some decorating & much needed cleaning. I just realized I need to do laundry tomorrow!! Such is life. Sometimes being a responsible adult is not fun!!! Since the weather is so nasty I decided to come home on the back roads as there is little traffic. Well, I didn't consider that the back roads are more likely to have standing water on them, but it wasn't to bad. The vineyards already have standing water in them due to all the rain we are getting. Right now it is the second storm that is bringing us all the rain with a 3rd coming right in behind it. There is suppose to be some of a break between 2 & 3. I'll turn on the news in a minute to start hearing all the storm reports. Oh, it is after 5 my time. I am going to turn on the TV! These are warm storms courtsey of the Pineapple Express!!
Here is a picture to say so long until next time. I'm just not sure what this is on the beach in the rocks but it has obviously been there a long time.
Have a good evening, happy reading,
Donna M

Trudy, that's wonderful!
Trudy, that's wonderful news! I'm so glad that things are looking up for you finally!!!
I really don't have time to write a long message, and I didn't read any of the others right now. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to come back and do a proper job of it.
You know, if we wanted to, we could have our own little ornament exchange. I've joined in the eH exchanges several times, too. It's almost too late this year, but if we hurried we could do it.We might not be able to make it a surprise -- Of course we can make it a surprise. Does someone want to organize it?
Must run. More tomorrow. . . {:-)

Wed. night
At long last I have a lot of good news for you!!!! It's over folks, I mean over! I am still processing it but my nightmare is essentially over. The bankruptcy trustee who was hearing my case was satisfied and, according to my lawyer, I'm done. I was half-way home from Tampa before it really hit me. There is the little matter of the accident I was in 2 1/2 years ago but if the bankruptcy court pursues it, I don't get anything out of it and the info I gave her made her think it's really not worth their effort. The money I paid the other lawyer is just down the drain, not worth them going after. When she asked me who she was and I told her, she looked at my lawyer and said, "Is she still practicing?" Tells you, doesn't it.
As for my friend Sharon, when I spoke with her last night, she had had her catheter removed and was no longer on oxygen. She said that the doc said that her blood count was up and he felt that the bleeding was almost stopped. The only thing that was still in her was the port for chemo. She had climbed 16 steps yesterday! Sharon was hoping to be discharged today (don't know if it happened). Don't think she's now OK; she isn't. She still has all those cancers and blood clots in her legs but, two weeks ago, I thought she was dying. Please keep praying for her. Thanks!
Finally, this evening, I signed up with Coventry Advantage Health Insurance. I really had no choice as Bay Care Hospital system dropped United Healthcare on Monday, no chance of a reconciliation. I hate HMO's but my agent tells me that this one will be good and I will get my Part B returned to me (appx. $1200/yr). So three of the big problems I've had are gone except I can't get sick before Jan. 1 or I have to go to a hospital a long ways away.
I haven't started Christmas yet, can't even think about it this year. I don't usually do it anyhow because my birthday is next week and it gets lost enough as is. Can't believe I'll be 66!
You know what I was thinking the other day? I love this group but I always joined the ornament exchange with HQ the last several years and I realized that that wasn't happening this year. Kind of miss it. I always sent this really neat metal palm tree w/rhinestones ornament to the people I got to kind of remind them of warm fuzzies in the dead of winter.
Sorry to rattle on, been doing whenever I opened my mouth tonight; I think it's the release of the stress. I finished Stephanie Laurens new book and it is really good. Now, I'm reading an anthology by Linda Lael Miller called The Christmas Brides. The first book was really good and I only just started the second.

Hi Donna,
I'm not really organized at all! The house was a total mess for two days with all the boxes I had out trying to decide where to put stuff. And you should see the garage right now!I usually do it the first week in December but I had a reason to get it done early. This Saturday my church is hosting a ladies brunch. Several other ladies from other churches from our district are attending and we will all be blessing a mission pastor and family with Christmas gifts. I'm bringing a couple of French Toast Casseroles since it is breakfast stuff we are serving. So this Saturday is way to busy.
Then next Saturday our church ladies are doing a ladies Progressive Dinner. Four ladies host. The group of ladies start at house one which is appetizers, everyone then drives to house two which is salad. Then we all to go the main dish house and finally it is dessert house where we also do an ornament exchange. My sister and I are the dessert house! So I have to make it Christmasy.
Here is a pic of part of the living room.
I've never watch Nate's show and I'm not sure if it is still on t.v. but I really liked the decorating he did for people on the Oprah Show. I remember when he came on the show to talk about his horrible experience in that Tsunami a few years ago. He was vacationing with his boyfriend when it hit. They were in a little beach house and were swept away. His boyfriend died. It was really sad hearing about it.
I've been watching DWTS tonight. I was really glad it was three ladies in the end. I like them all but I know Kelly is not the best dancer. Shawn or Melissa do deserve to win. I was a bit frustrated with Derek being cocky and breaking rules so I am a bit glad Melissa won. She was really good too.
I'm still reading the S.Jeffries book and I'm really enjoying it. It is book two about three sisters so I will have to see if the library has the other two books.
I hope everyone else is having a good week. I can't believe it is already going to be Wednesday.
Margie :)

Tuesday, early evening 11/27/2012...
Good Evening Everyone,
I wish you could not only see this big wave but hear it! Maybe this will give you just a tiny idea of what the waves were like on Thanksgiving Day. It was a wonderful day to enjoy our coast. Today is all gloomy & over cast, rain coming through the weekend! No complaints.
We are now into the Christmas season. Not sure I am ready but I'm getting there! Since we are having rain the rest of the week, but we will have some breaks, I thought I'd get my Christmas decorations down to see what I want to use. I don't put up a tree because there is just no room, not even for a small one. I have lots of candles, figureines & other Christmas "stuff" to set around. Over the last few years I have collected some books of Christmas stories, The Night Before Christmas, The Twelve Days of Christmas, a Hallmark book Home for the Holidays that is decorating, recipes, gifts to make, etc. There are beautiful pictures in the book. There are two or three other books also. I buy them after the holiday when all those books are marked down. I stack them as a decoration. The poinsettas look so pretty I may buy myself one this year!!
This year I am again volunteering on the Secret Santa Project. I have my red hearts delivered to the businesses which is just the start of things! I chose two hearts to fulfill the wishes for. Hope I'm not to optimistic with spending the money! I have bought no gifts for my grandkids. The two teens that live in Oregon haven't sent me any suggestions yet. My older grandson wants to get his own apartment so I'm thinking I will buy him some kitchen utensils or a frying pan, something along those lines. To the best of my knowledge he has nothing!! Well, his bed!! When you think about everything one needs to set up housekeeping it is a little over whelming!!
Mary, your Thanksgiving with Karen & family sounds very nice. I did watch the 49'ers play the Saints on Sunday. Shopping online is a plus I think! I know many people love going out on Black Friday but it is just not my cup of tea. Usually I love baking but I haven't started any yet. I have Nora Roberts newest in the Inn Boonsboro series. I'm looking forward to reading it.
Margie, you are so organized having your decorations all up. When I was working I usually did my decorating on Thanksgiving weekend but no more. For me it was just too early this year. It sounds like the rain is going to be pretty heavy at times in our area. What is your sugar cookie recipe?
I finally finished the book I was reading. It took forever! I didn't dislike the book but it seemed to go very slowly. This was a new to me author, Elin Hilderbrand, The Island. It is not a romance but womens fiction. Not sure if I will try another by her. I've bought several books recently & have two more from the library plus I'm trying to finish a book by Nate Berkus on interior design. It is a library book also that is due back this week. I can't renew it as there is another request for it. The book has been very interesting to read.
This should catch me up for now. On this cool night I am going to finish off my leftover clam chowder. It is great weather for soup!
By the way, I want to pass on this hint to you. We all look for bargains when shopping. At one of the author blogs I visit the website: ebates was recommend for getting coupons to help you save money. I haven't checked it out yet. I don't remember details so I won't say anymore for now. When I find out more I will pass it along.
Here is another sunny, Thanksgiving Day picture to say good bye. Loved those waves!!
Have a good evening, happy reading,
Donna M
P.S. Did anyone watch DWTS last night? Tonight we will find out the winner!

Hi Everyone,
Trudy, It's great that you could spend time with your friend at the hospital on Thanksgiving. It can be a very hard place to be during the holidays. I'm sure your friend was very thankful to have you there. I hope your meeting goes well and that this is the start of getting this all behind you.
Amanda, How did the reunion go? Were there more people like you expected? I have never attended any of mine but high school was not a great experience for me. Not bad just not that great time some kids have and I never stayed close with the high school friends I had. I've have stayed close to only one friend but she wasn't in the same class as me. Did you get out for the Friday Specials?
Sandi, It sounds like you had a very successful Black Friday shopping spree. I'm curious about the books by Marie Force. I'll have to check if my library carries them.
DonnaM, I loved the beautiful weather for Thanksgiving and all weekend too. It's been getting really chilly in the evenings and that storm is coming on Wednesday. I know we need the rain but I wish it wouldn't. I'm just not feeling like rain now and I usually do enjoy it. I also enjoyed a slice of pumpkin pie for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving and I just had another piece right now!
Mary, Yes we had a really nice day. It sounds like you did too. We had a lot of food and so many different desserts. But we did not have any cookies and that is what one of my uncles was searching for. I have a sugar cookie recipe that everyone loves and he was looking for those so I promised I'd make them for when he comes next Sunday. Now I better not forget!
Cady, I hope everything is going okay for you and the family. I hope your dad is continuing to improve.
I didn't get out to shop but I really only plan to get some stuff for Gavin and a small thing for my sister and parents. We have been wanting some curtains for our living room and saw some at JCPenney's last month. I figured I'd check online today because of Cyber Monday and I'm glad that I did because they were on sale. I got the two panels and also some sheers for under them. I also got a pretty double rod but it was not on sale. I was able to save at least $50.00 so that makes me happy since we planned to get these anyway and the shipping is free too.
We took out all our Christmas stuff and had a huge mess all over the place. It was hard to decide where to put stuff but we finally got it done and I'm really happy with the living room. We have our Christmas tree in there. Also a couple of corners with other forest like trees that are 3 and 4 foot tall and I put little villages on the tables under them. It's very cozy and twinkly. Gavin has been pretty good about not touching stuff until today. He broke the tip of a little tree from one of the villages. He is spinning the big sparkly balls on the tree. He did that to a cone shaped ornament and it fell and a sparkly thing fell off. I had to get the glue out to fix them. Then before bed he was at the dining table grabbing the candle out of the holder. It is a very temping candle because it is red and twisty. I am wondering what will be broken tomorrow.
I am currently reading A Notorious Love by Sabrina Jeffries and I am really enjoying it. She has become a favorite Historical author for me. Her books are sweet and humorous.
I hope you all have a good Tuesday.
Margie :)

Margie :)
Monday afternoon
Hi everyone! I finally made it back to post. I have been reading posts all week but didn't post myself. It sounds like we all had nice Thanksgiving days. We all went to Karen's for the day. Jer does most of the cooking so I just had to bring dessert. We had a great time. There were 14 of us this year. Friday was a rest day. Then Sat. we had our annual Cookie bake day. The grandmoms and kids do the cut-out cookies and Karen and Jer make all the dough for several kinds of cookies. We had food, fun, family, and football and cookies! Sunday I just vegged and watched more football. I did not go out shopping on Black Friday. I have been doing some shopping online but will get to the stores at some point.
Since our combo vcr/dvd quit on us and we got a new dvd player, we have been replacing some of our favorite movies that were on vhs and watching them. Don and I watched Gone With the Wind on Thanksgiving night and Friday night. That is my favorite movie of all time. I have been getting some good deals on Amazon. I have also been doing some reading. I finally finished Gone Girl which I did not like at all. I continued reading to see how it would end and was not happy with the ending. I would have to say this is the worst book I read all year. I am now reading Enemy Way, another of the books in the Ella Clah series by Aimee and David Thurlo. It is good. I have The Perfect Hope to read next.
Donna H--we are to get a little snow overnight but nothing like you have already. We have to wait to age 62 to apply for early Social Security here.
Trudy--I will continue to keep your friend in my prayers. That is great that you were able to spend Thanksgiving with her.
Amanda--have fun at your reunion. Those years do go by quickly. :-( The weather was beautiful on T-Day. Now it is cold again but still sunny right now.
Donna M--I loved the picture of the vineyard. Reminds me of the movie A Walk in the Clouds which is one of my favorites.
Cady--hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. Is your dad doing better now?
Margie--sounds like your day was good on T-Day.
Sandi--I was told my first SS check would arrive in Feb. so it takes about 90 days to 120 days. You did have a quiet Thanksgiving. I really like just going to Karen's. I used to be the one who did all the work and I would not like to do that now.
I think that catches me up for now. This week will be busy with house-cleaning as the kiddos are coming to stay over on Sat. and the house needs a good cleaning.
Have a good week everyone!
Mary

Saturday, 11/24/2012...
Hello Everyone,
Finally I get here to post & read up on all the posts that I've missed. At least I got here to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. :-)
The above picture is on my drive to the coast on Thanksgiving Day. This vineyard, all vineyards, is at the end of its season which is why it is a little bare. The day was gorgeous, pretty blue sky, temp around 65 even at the coast! I thought since it was "turkey day" when most people have family gatherings or family & friends that the coast would be quiet. I was so wrong!! People were everywhere I went!! The weather was so gorgeous I guess it drew people to enjoy the weather or there are a lot of people like myself that tend to be some what non-traditional. I had a marvelous day, talked to a couple of people that were interesting & one of the state park rangers that was on duty. She was very nice. I just thanked her for all they do. You all know I am a big nature lover which means I really appreciate what the park employees do for those beautiful places set aside for all of us to enjoy. The waves were absolutely huge & booming. I wanted to bring the sound home. It was just an outstanding day in every way. When I got home I had my fresh crab, a green salad & a dinner roll. My first piece of pumpkin pie was for breakfast the next morning with lots of whipped cream. Yummmy!!
Trudy, it sounds like you had a good day with your friends Sharon & Lee. What a wonderful way to spend the holiday. Eating with friends is always a plus. Good luck on your day in court. Please keep us posted. Surely this will all be over someday. The health care issue & insurance is another whole story.
Amanda, I laughed about the 2 year old that wasn't cooperative for the pictures. Hopefully he is in them anyway. Sounds like you had a good day. At this point in my life I have no desire to cook the big turkey dinner. Because I've done some cooking & baking the last week or so, it seems like there are always dirty dishes. Since we don't have dishwashers here it seems like I always need to do more dishes!! Since I don't cook a turkey dinner I also have none of those yummy leftovers for sandwiches or other meals. I hope you enjoyed the long weekend. I always loved having those 4 days off. Pure pleasure!
Sandi, what a brave woman you are to shop on Black Friday. I just simply refuse to do it. There is nothing I need or want that bad. But to each his own. There will be other bargains other days. As long as you are happy with what you did buy that is the only thing that counts. What kind of computer did you get? Laptop or desk top? I'm going to seriously consider buying sometime after the first of the year. Not till after I get together with my computer tech friend though. We talked about it when he had coffee & pastries with us last week. It sounds like you are doing very well with Readers & Ritas. Fantastic that you already have some tickets sold for next year. I think it would be fun to come sometime but not sure that is real likely. The trip would probably cost more than I should spend!
We are still having beautiful weather at least for a couple of more days. We do have a storm coming in next week. Not sure if it is going to be a big one. Things are already greening up around here from the rain we have had this season. You can see that in the picture above. I took tons of pictures on Thanksgiving Day & some more when I was out on a walk this afternoon. It is so pretty I just can't resist. I was really trying to work on composition today. On Thanksgiving I was just trying to catch some of the awesome wave action. I'll share!!
Last week we had our meeting & the start of the Secret Santa Project. Today I delivered my first batch of red hearts to one of the businesses. The other business was not ready for theirs. I should take a picture of one so you know what I am babbling about. There are some special functions coming up with this project that I might volunteer my services. It depends on when they are. I have another short pet sitting job coming up I think on Sunday, December 9. Good thing because I have been spending money like I have it! None of it was Christmas shopping either!!
Well I have probably babbled on long enough. Enjoy what is left of the weekend. I'm going to watch a movie. I also hope to finish the book I feel like I have been reading forever. More on the book once I finish.
Here is a picture that might give you some idea of what the waves were like at the coast. Not sure this one shows how big they were, but there will be one later on that will!!
Take care, happy reading,
Donna M
Saturday
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We had a very quiet one. I couldn't believe it but McDonald's was open, and a bunch of my coffee and donut friends were meeting there, so I went. It was fairly busy, but we sat and visited for awhile. It was nice. Came home and put the turkey into the oven. We had no one here, but ourselves so we did it simply and without fretting about entertaining or having to be on any sort of schedule. I forgot my IPad at the office, so when Richard had to take Elijah back to Misty I went with so that we could swing by the office and pick it up.
I did go out shopping on Friday. I spent way more money than I should have, but hopefully I got several good deals. I was gone a lot longer than I had planned on, but other than not getting what I wanted at Kohls (decided that the line just wasn't worth it) I didn't really have to wait in any line or have any trouble getting a parking spot (oh wait...had trouble finding a spot at Denny's when I met the family for lunch!)
I finished reading Fatal Consequences by Marie Force. During the month of November I read books 2-5 of this series. I really enjoyed them, and am hopeful that there will be more of them. For a few more days the 1st book Fatal Affair is free. If you have the kindle or nook apps I really suggest downloading....especially those of you who like the Robb books....I find the main characters in this series to be similiar to those in the In Death books.
I am now finally starting on Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor series. I've read the first 3 chapters of the first book. Looks to be a fun series. I could see where I could end up reading them all in a row like I finally did with the Marie Force books!
I have to do some cleaning this weekend, especially my closet! Brian says he cleaned his closet yesterday and made 4 bags of goodwill. I also need to get some reviews posted for Fresh Fiction I'm so behind with that!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Gobble Gobble!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Trudy -- So sorry about your friend. Will keep her in my prayers. Glad you had a great dinner with her. How did your dinner go with your friend from Peru? Sorry about your healthcare issues. We have UHC too, so I guess its good we live here. Glad you had a great time at the Celtic show.
Margie -- How horrible for your sister! Unbelievable that two doctors couldn't diagnosis it before going to the ER. I would have been there sooner, that's for sure. Glad she is better now. Oh, and I would be switching docs after this.
Sandi -- Glad your work trip to CA went well. And seeing your brother was an added bonus! Sorry about the stamp issue. Some people just have to be so snarky. Hope they get a decent fine over it.
DonnaM -- Love the pics, as always. The pumpkins were a great choice for this week. I have been watching DWTS - sort of. Amelia has dance at 8 on Mondays, so I miss part of the beginning and when I pick her up at 9. Final week already - I'm voting for Shawn & Derek:)
DonnaH -- Snow already? UGH You can keep that! I just know we are going to get it this year and hoping I'm wrong. Even worse, I swear no one can drive in the snow here. Makes it so much harder for me to get to work. And who knew my birthday fell on the Ukranian Christmas? Lol
Cady -- Hope Maggie and your dad are better now. Hope you had a safe trip to Chicago.
Mary -- What did you think about the weather today? An absolutely gorgeous Thanksgiving. Hate that the cold air is coming in this weekend though:(
We had dinner at David's sister Kim's today. She always does this and his sis Melinda always does Christmas. Mom & Joe went to my stepbrothers, so I didn't have to split my day. All the grandkids were actually together (a rarity) and we tried to get a picture, but Mason was having none of it (he's 2). So I have pics but I don't think he is looking my way in any of them. Oh well, maybe we can try again at Christmas.
I have my 25th high school reunion this saturday. Scary to think I have been out of school that long. It should be a better turn out than the 20, thanks to Facebook. Looking forward to seeing some people I know will be there.
I haven't been reading. Finished the Blaze I started and that's it. Have book club Tuesday and only downloaded the book yesterday. I better get a move on, eh?
Ok, off to bed. Have a lot I hope to accomplish tomorrow - we shall see. David is getting up for work around 2:30 - lucky him. I am very happy to have a 4-day weekend - woo hoo! Happy Black Friday to all:-)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I had a pleasant one; spent it with my friend Sharon in the hospital. Yes, she's still with us. What a strong spirit she has! She has been through all that with her kidneys, has had to have a net put in b/c of blood clots in her legs to prevent them from going to her heart or brain, has had a whole day of chemo and now has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer as well as the other cancers. She's got a catheter in her and is bleeding from the ovarian cancer but she is alert and talking and walked down the hall today! Thank you for putting her on the eH prayer line; Sharon still needs a miracle to beat this. All prayers are welcome.
I had signed up for a Thanksgiving basket from Oldsmar Cares before Sharon got so sick. I now have about a 15 lb turkey in my freezer and so much food I don't know what to do with! However, I bought two take-out meals from a local restaurant that does home-cooked food and took it down to the hospital, 25 miles away today for Thanksgiving dinner. Sharon's best friend and neighbor, Lee, who is seeing her through this was there and she had her own tray from the hospital. So we sat down at the foot of her bed and ate our dinners. It was really nice, much nicer than I thought it would be. We are really three old friends who were sharing a meal together like old times.
I just finished reading a HH Man Behind the Facade by June Francis. It takes place in the time of Henry VIII and is about Philip Hurst, actor/playwrite/spy, and Rebecca Clifton, a former childhood friend now widow, whom each other secretly loves but has never acted on for years. It may be b/c of what's going on in my life but I thought the story was way too busy with many different plot twists that really weren't essential to the main story line. I had a lot of trouble following the book and was glad when I finished it (and you know how I love historicals).
Next week, I go to court for my Meeting of the Creditors as part of the Bankruptcy. Hopefully, then this part of my year's drama will soon be put to rest. Unfortunately, I have to go downtown Tampa to the Federal Courthouse to the Bankruptcy Court. I hate the thought of driving there! The meeting lasts seven minutes and no one shows up but it's federal law. I have turned the other lawyer into the FL Bar Assoc.
Also next week, on Mon., Bay Care hospital group drops my insurance, AARPUnitedHealthcare! I went to a seminar for Coventry Insurance, a dreaded HMO, for next year and there was a primary care doc there who said that Bay Care docs were going to have their hospital privileges revoked too. After that, I went to my sleep apena doc and my ortho doc came in as a patient. As we were both early, we sat out in the waiting room and chatted about the situation. He backed up the other doc's statement and then the sleep apena doc backed both of them up. I hope I don't get sick between Mon and Jan. 1!
Actually, I enjoyed talking to my ortho doc. He's originally from PA and trained at Hershey Med. Center, now part of Penn State. We have a long history together. He was floored when he discovered that I picked him b/c of where he trained (his son is in his 3rd year there now)! It was so informal, almost like old friends!
Well, I must go now. I was invited to another Thanksgiving which I thought was earlier but just found out is now. It's for my next-door neighbor, who's 90, in a nursing home and doesn't speak English. I've spoken about her before; I gave her lunch everyday this spring until she had problems and went into the nursing home. We've been good friends for more than 12 years even though we don't speak each other's languages. She's from Peru.
I hope your day was great!
Trudy

Hi Ladies,
Trudy, I hope your friend has continued to improve. Saying a prayer for her.
Thanks for the thoughts about my sister. It was a very scary experience. She is back to normal now. It has been a slow reading week for me because I haven't been able to get to the library. I was hoping to go on Saturday but didn't get out of the house until after 6:00 when it closed. I went to the outlets with my sister because she was looking for something for G to wear on Thanksgiving. She found a cute orangish color long sleeved tee with a moose in plaid on it. I'm going back to Gilroy on Tuesday so I'll stop at the library then. Need some books for the long weekend.
We are having people over for Thanksgiving. I'm getting a turkey from my work so we'll make that and the stuffing and others will bring different dishes. It is my favorite holiday and I am looking forward to it.
Have a good Monday.
Margie

Saturday
Margie, I'm so sorry to hear about your sister! However what she experienced sounds very similiar to something that Richard was experiencing a couple of years ago. We too thought it was a tooth or ear ache We went to Minute Clinic and the guy there took one look at him, and said he needed an ER because he was worried he had a rare throat infection his throat was so red. Turned out he had an abcess on his tonsils, and they did IV treatments through the ER and sent him home with strong meds and a note that he couldn't work for several days. Also told him to follow up with the ENT. The ENT said he had the largest tonsils that he'd ever seen. They really wanted to take them out, but he couldn't afford the time off to recover, and therefore still has them.
Trudy how is your friend doing? I hope she's still on the upswing. I would have beend disappointed if Apolo had gone home. I know Kristie isn't the best dancer, but I liked her. Did you make it to see her?
Mary, I too was disappointed in Gone Girl. I'm glad I didn't buy it. Glad to hear that applying for the social security was an easy process. How soon after you qualify will you get a check?
Donna H, I would love ot live closer to you, just to be near you, but I would hate the snow! I'm still not wearing a jacket outside! Good luck in your kids getting the paperwork signed to buy the house! The Perfect Hope is not from Harlequin It's the 3rd book in Nora's newest trilogy.
Donna M, Mike and I were considering a new computer and he thought we should wait til Black Friday, but there was a 2 day sale that we ended up going to and buying. Not using it yet, as I need to set it up, but am just too tired to think about it today.
Today we had a wrap up for Readers and Ritas. A few questions still remain, as we're waiting for others to get back to us. We're learning more each year, and have decided what we liked and didn't like about this year. We already have 15 authors confirmed for next year, and have presold 45 tickets!
Next week I'm in the office on my own, and will be from now on I have a huge space to wander! I need to get some people in, as I have no one hardly scheduled!
Wow! It's late. I'm going to bed. Have a great week!

P.S.
Whoops! I knew I would do something stupid, like leave Trudy out! So sorry Trudy. What a sad situation for your friend Sharon. That was good news that her kidneys were functioning. I'm glad you are going to go see her. She will be happy to know that someone cares about her.
Since I'm here I'll toss in another picture!!! These are olives. They now grow quite a few olives in this area along with the wine grapes. Diversity! Apparently they do well here. There are several small companies that make olive oil. They are all very pricey! They have tastings for the olive oil just like wine. One reason we have all the wine grapes here is because Italian immagrants settled this area. Many of them brought cuttings with them to start vineyards. This area is very much like some areas of Italy.
Bye again.

Good afternoon to Everyone,
It is so nice to see you all here posting. Now, I read everything, will I remember!!
The picture above is taken from under the vines. It was so pretty the way to sun was coming through the leaves. For those of you that might not see the vineyards in person all the newer plantings are trained on wires so the vines grow like this up & out rather than the way they tend to grow naturally. This allows for easier picking & taking care of the grapes. I think they may get higher yield also but don't remember for sure.
Donna H, glad to hear that you have healed well. That sounds like a lot of snow! And it is only November!! One of my friends that lived in the Sierras where they get a fair amount of snow had a husband that worked for the county. In the winter he was on the snow plow. Sometimes she would barely see him for days at a time. I sure miss her since she passed away. I'm sure her husband has retired by now. The Nora Roberts book you mentioned is a new one that was recently released, it is #3 of her Inn Boonsboro trilogy. I can hardly wait to get my hands on it!!
Margie, I am so sorry to hear about how sick your sister was. Thank heavens she persisted in pursuing treatment. Glad you were there encouraging her to seek help. I'm sure that was scary. Doctors are not infallible & so often people do think they need antibiotics when they don't. I'm sorry to hear you have problems with your computer. It is so frustrating. That is one reason I hate thinking about a new one. This one doesn't give me problems but it is about 10 years old. I'd love to have newer technology. If it isn't paid for, does it have a guarantee? Have you tried talking to a person that fixes computers, they might be able to give you some hints to avoid the problem?
Mary, Homeland is on my Netflix list but won't be up for awhile. I'm looking forward to watching it. Glad to hear some positive view points on it.
Sandi, to bad you missed the beauty of being on the bay. How nice that you were able to connect with your brother to have dinner. Not getting your emails was probably due to the hotel connection. How was the training? I can imagine how tired you must have been once you got home. Your body knows it can let down then. The travel, the training, being away from home all that catches up with a person unless maybe you are only 21!!!
What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving? I think I will be spending the day by myself. Both my daughter & grandson are working. We will get together another time. My daughter usually works on Thanksgiving so I'm use to it. Since there will just be me I think I might indulge in fresh crab. The season just opened & they are starting to be available in the markets. I can hardly wait. If that is what I do I will probably have a salad & some sourdough bread also. Pumpkin pie, of course!! Although I don't think it goes well with crab but I don't care.
I can't remember if I mentioned that I read Sisters by Danielle Steel. It was good, easy reading rather predictible but still a nice read. I don't too often read her anymore but this may have been a free book I got at the bookmobile or off our community bookshelf. I picked it to read now because I knew it would be an easy read.
This weekend I am pet sitting with a dog & cat. Once I got them all taken care of for the day I came home to get mail, check for phone messages and of course, check emails & spend time on the computer! Yesterday while I was there I looked at a lot of magazines & catalogs. It is fun to see the ones I don't get!
Our weekend is mostly, wet or showery. We have had some good down pours last night & early this morning. Now the sun is playing tag with the clouds. We are probably going to have more showers & unsettled weather for most of the coming week. I hope that the people that are driving over the hills & through the woods will be careful. It amazes me that people don't seem to take the rain into consideration when they drive. They keep the highway patrol & other law enforcement busy.
This is all my news for now. Here is another picture! This is a very old grapevine. I love how the trunk twists & is so gnarled. Some of the old vines around this area were planted 100 or so years ago. They tear them out because they are not as productive. I'm glad this winery saved some for the asethic value & tradition.
Enjoy the weekend. Does anyone shop Black Friday? I avoid it like the plague!! Don't get the appeal of all those rude, shoving, frantic people. The bargains are not that good!!!! Just my lowly opinion. If you like doing it, enjoy.
Happy reading,
Donna M
Stuff. . .
Wow! Everyone's back. What a good week. {:-)
Trudy, So COOL!!! -- about the Celtic Thunder concert excitement! :) Nice, too that you had such a good time catching up with a former schoolmate, even if it was decades. . . {;-)
I just reserved 9 books from the library by Melissa McClone. I sure hope I like them as she's a new to me author, I think.
Continuing to pray for your friend, Sharon. I hope you don't mind, but I posted your prayer request in the Prayer Room at eH. They all send {{{{HUGS}}}} to you, and Sharon & family, and assured me they would pray.
Hey, if wires work. . . We're just glad you're able to get back to us. {:-)
I'm sorry I turned the rest of your hair gray. I'm back to normal now, except for a small bruise on the elbow I bumped. Thanks to everyone for all the good wishes and hugs. :)
Cady, oh my gosh! You've had your share of trouble lately, too. {{{{HUGS}}}} I'm glad everyone is improving!
The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts -- is that the one someone said was a Harl. book? Is it any good?
Donna M, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! the picture with the colored branch against the cloudy sky!!!
I don't watch DWTS. That's not the kind of dancing I like -- seems more like exhibitionism to me. . .
Our payday this month is a week after yours -- the 3rd last business day of each month, except in Dec. when it's on the 22nd. Makes Jan one very long month! That's what happens when you "work" for the gov't. . .
{:-) If you guys celebrated Thanksgiving a little earlier you'd be able to decorate for Christmas sooner, too. {;-P {:-D We never take our decorations down until after Ukranian Christmas, either, which is Jan 7. (one year we even left them up until my birthday, which is Jan 25.)
We have more snow already than we had all last winter. The city crews worked 24/7 from Sun afternoon to Thurs evening to get the dump of snow we got last weekend from Thurs evening to Sun morning cleared away. Our son-in-law works for the city. He was on the night crew and worked from midnight till noon every day, then got Fri off. He was so tired he almost slept the clock around.
Sandi, I'm very glad you enjoyed your training week, especially dinner with your brother! All of a sudden you'll have 2 notary stamps. . . I'm sorry you don't live closer. We could sure use a notary right about now. Our daughter & family are trying to buy the house they're renting. The lawyer has the papers drawn up, but the guy who has to sign them (the owner of the house) is working 6 hours from here. If you lived closer we could just take you and the papers and drive up there. . . {;-)
Margie, Wow! That was really something scary with your sister!!! I'm glad the doc actually admitted that he learned his lesson.
Do computers have batteries? Oh. Are you referring to a laptop? Sometimes after I've upgraded stuff on my computer it freezes on me and I have to restart it several times before everything learns to work together -- but then my computer is 10 years old. . . (and not a laptop)
Mary, Good to see you back again! :) Welcome to the Social Security Group! {:-) We can apply for early Canada Pension at age 60, but don't get the full pension benefits until age 65. They call that Old Age Security.
Oh my, look at the time! No wonder I'm hungry! Lunch time, more later. . . :)

Thursday evening
Hi guys! Sorry I haven't posted for a while. I have been reading posts.
Donna H--I am glad to hear you are ok. My goodness, you must have a great guardian angel!
Trudy--I will keep your friend in my thoughts and prayers. Glad you enjoyed CT and also had a nice visit with your school friend.
Cady--It is good to see you checked in. Hope Maggie and your dad are much better now. I will add them to my prayers. Glad your budget worked out.
Amanda--we are having nice weather this week. It has been cool but sunny. I enjoyed your picture.
Margie--So glad your sister is ok. The medical community needs to listen to the patients more. Your sister had a close call. Prayers for her as well.
Donna M--I am not watching DWTS this season but I did see who was voted off this week.
Sandi--that was great that you were able to have dinner with your brother. Hope the new job works out well for you.
Well, today I applied for early Social Security as I will turn 62 in January. It was a bit weird--how did my 60s get here so quickly? :-( It was actually easy to do--just apply online. I have been reading Gone Girl for a week now. I had looked forward to reading it and so far I am disappointed. It's not a bad book. None of the characters are very likeable. I will continue reading because I want to see how it ends but I am finding it hard to read very much at a time.
My dh and I watched the whole first season of Homeland on dvd last week and really enjoyed it. Can't wait for the second season to come out on dvd.
Everyone have a good weekend.
Mary

Wed. night
Here I am, again. Please pray for my friend. She's near death but I believe in miracles, especially after the one that occurred with Ryan Kelly this summer. Sharon is on dialysis now and if God will allow, she'll be able to start chemo sometime. I haven't seen her in a month but plan to go on Friday; the hospital is in St. Pete, 25 miles away. This is very hard for me. Just got a call and Sharon has kidney function, Praise God; she's been moved out of ICU!
Margie~~Has your sister had her tonsils removed? What is PeriTonsilitis? You see, I have many of the same symptoms. Soreness on the left side of my throat, at the bottom of my throat and some difficulty swallowing pills. I've been to the doctor several times; had a strep test (negative) and told to see an ENT. She also said it could be interference from my VNS which is on that side, allergies (constant post-nasal drip) or growths on my vocal cords. The problem is, the hospital system here is dropping my insurance (UnitedHealthcare) in two weeks; they're in a big re-imbursement battle so even if I do go to the ENT, he can't order any tests. So, I'm just curious, is this something that occurs with people who still have their tonsils or not? Mine were removed when I was 4.
DWTS~~Bummer that Giles got the boot! He was good and sexy and French and all that. I missed the show b/c I thought it started at 9 but, in any case, I was tied up on the phone about my friend Sharon. Jimmy Fallon was really upset b/c he predicted Giles as the winner in the beginning of the season and yesterday was Jimmy's b-day.
Well, I need to eat dinner. Once again, it's 9 when I do it!

Hi Ladies,
Sorry it has been a couple of weeks or so since I've checked in. Everyone in the house has been sick from something but all better now. My computer is frustrating me too. It keeps freezing right after I turn it on. Sometimes it will be fine but then other times I have to turn it off and on several times for it to work. I haven't even finished paying for it! Maybe I need a new battery?
DonnaH, I'm sorry you had such a scary experience but I'm really glad to hear that you are safe. That was your guardian angel watching out for you.
Cady, I'm glad Maggie is getting better and that your dad is also improving. It is taking forever for my library to get The Perfect Hope but I did pick up the new In Death and I'm reading it now.
Sandi, Good thing you called your brother and got to visit with him before you had to leave. I was in San Jose last week too but not for such a nice reason as you.
We had a pretty big scare with my sister last week. Gavin had been sick with tonsillitus and he got meds which cleared it up. My sister ended up getting it too but she decided to tough it out and just gargle. It did clear up but a few days later she started feeling pain in her ear, jaw, throat area. She thought maybe it was an earache or tooth thing. Then she would have pain on the left side of her throat that she said was a level 10. She couldn't even sleep for the pain she was in. She went to her doctor and he said her gland was swollen causing the pain so he gave her an something to reduce the swelling and ease the pain....but no antibiotics because she didn't have a fever and her throat was not red. I told her that she probably needed antibiotics ....something was causing the swelling. Her throat was not red but you could see the swelling inside her throat and on the outside of neck.
My sister went to work but by the time she got out she was still at a level 10 for pain and couldn't swallow without it hurting. She went to the evening clinic and was told by the physician on call that he agreed with her doctor. So he gave her nothing. All night she was in pain. So the next morning I went with her to insist they see her even if she didn't have an appontment. It was a physicians assistant on call and she took a test for strep but it was not that. She said my sisters gland was very swollen so gave her a steroid to reduce the swelling and gave her a shot for the pain. ....still no anibiotics, again because there was no fever or redness. She said my sister would feeling better in a day or so. It was very frustrating.
Anyway, she went the dentist the next day thinking it must be a tooth. She even got some work done but this did not help the pain. By Wednesday night she couldn't swallow her own saliva and I could hear it gurgling. So scary. I took her to the emergency room and they admitted her right away. She had only this tiny opening in her throat. They said she had a puss pocket and don't know how anyone could miss that. (even I saw how closed her throat was) They did a ct scan and it was too complicated to just drain and they said she needed surgery. But we don't have a specialist that comes to our town for that so she had to go by ambulance to a hospital that did. But first they started her up on three differnent antibiotics by IV. Also some other stuff I can't remember. They took really good care of her there. The nurse was very nice and informative. She explained that the meds my sister was getting were very strong and would really help her. Then they sent her off to San Jose by ambulance. I followed with my aunt. We had our pastor and family praying. My sister said she didn't want surgery and was praying that she would not have to go through it. Well, the Lord answered her prayers because the antibiotics worked so well that she didn't need it. They released her that next morning.
The next day I looked into her mouth and it was back to normal. I swear that she only had an opening the size of a marble when it was closing. She was told it was PeriTonsillitus abcess that she had. They sent her home with very strong meds to continue taking and said to follow up with her doctor and then a specialist in a couple of weeks.
Sorry to go on so long. Just had to get it off my chest. I was so upset with the doctors. I could see what was happening in her mouth ....how could they not?! At her follow up with her regular doctor, he said that he learned a lesson and next time my sister compains will immediately give her antibiotics!
I'll say good night now.
Margie :)

Tuesday
I didn't really read or make notes about the posts So sorry! Life here has been one whirlwwind after the other lately!
I thought I was going to work my two week notice, but they ended up telling me to hit the road, and I went. They kept my notary stamp (which is highly illegal) and I have filed a complaint with the Sect. of State about it. In the meantime I am sucking up the cost and buying a new one. I'm waiting for my new certificate to come, so I can go order my stamp. I should be getting my certificate one day next week, and then it takes about 7 days for my stamp to arrive. I do believe that the SOS is also going to file a complaint with the company I left about keeping my stamp.
Since they didn't make me work my two weeks I let the new company know that I was available if they wanted me. That worked out well for everyone and I spent last week in California Sunday-Thursday. The one problem I ran into was that my emails didn't go. Fortunately I think it was a problem with the hotel internet and not with my computer. The emails not going meant I almost missed my brother! I called not expecting him to answer but he did We met in San Jose for dinner, but my SIL was not able to attend as she teaches bridge, and she had a class that night. He paid for dinner which was sweet. It was the only night I didn't eat at the hotel while I was there.
I discovered that the hotel was right on the water, but since it was always dark when I was coming and going I didn't know that! It was really pretty and I wish I had known...I might have attempted to see how well lit it was and gone for a walk.
I got home Thursday and crashed! Friday was Readers and Ritas. What a fun weekend! However, now I'm pooped again, and my thought process is slowing. I think I'm going to break this into a couple of posts and head to bed.
Have a great night!

Tuesday, 11/13/2012...
Good Afternoon to Everyone,
Cady, Donna H & Trudy, I'm so glad to see all of you here posting. The picture above is from the cloudy, showery day. I love the sky when they are dark clouds but also blue sky. It looks so dramatic. That is the kind of day that if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes it will change!! This is on the driveway/road to Trentadue Winery. Lining the road are the vineyards, of course, but also olive trees & ornamental plums. They bloom in early spring, late winter with pink blossoms which look beautiful. In fact, I think a long time ago, early in the blog, I may have posted a picture with the trees blooming but a drift of snow on the hills in the distance.
Donna H, my mom & an aunt both had teeth problems as their health deteriorated. The decision was made to just pull the teeth. It is just one of those sad things when people are up there in age. My grandmother, on the other hand, still had almost all her own teeth when she passed away at 101! I didn't comment on my last post but I was a little surprised that you were already putting up your Christmas decorations. I usually do mine Thanksgiving weekend or soon after. That is long enough for me! I always took them down & still do the day after Christmas as my oldest daughters birthday is December 28. Since it was so close to Christmas I wanted to keep them as separate as we could. I no longer put a tree up as this place is just too small. So was the duplex I lived in. I did not think I would ever come to that point but one year when I went to Colorado for Christmas (to see that oldest daughter & the two younger grand kids) I didn't want to put a tree up & then come home to that. I do put out decorations & candles which works fine, for me, these days! You mentioned that Hardy is shoveling snow...our weather is in the mid or even higher 60's & I have my windows open. We have rain coming in maybe showers on Thursday & rain Friday. Enjoying this while I can. When the sun starts going down there is an immediate cool down!
Trudy, it sounds like you have finally gotten to enjoy some good days. One, seeing your "boys/lads" then a get together with an old classmate. Both fun things. You deserve that. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I'm surprised they are doing chemotherapy as it sounds like the cancer is so widespread. Of course, they are always changing how to treat the nasty stuff. I certainly wish her the best. What a shock to find that out.
Cady, I'm so glad you stopped by the blog. I was a little worried about you but thought you might just be very busy. Life can just get crazy at times. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he will be okay. The weekend at a waterpark sounds like a lot of fun. If life slows down some enjoy it.
Thanksgiving seems early this year. I really did not realize until about a week ago, that it is next week. I just had not taken the time to look at the calendar. Of course, it is due to the way the month started on a Thursday. I also realized looking at the calendar that my monthly Social Security does not get deposited in my bank until the day before Thanksgiving. That is probably the worst day to shop except for the day after Thanksgiving. I'm not a person that sees the joy in Black Friday! When you only have that once a month pay day you kind of need everything! Grumble, grumble!!! Somehow it will all work out.
Here is another picture to say see you later! More from the vineyard on that showery day. The building on the hill is River Rock Casino. I've never been up there but keep saying I want to go check out the view! I have no interest in the casino!! If I didn't gamble in Las Vegas why would I here!!!
Is anyone still watching Dancing With the Stars? I can't believe it is almost over. Two couples will be elimated tonight. I'm most curious to see who that will be.
Everyone, have a good evening. Happy reading,
Donna M
I didn't take any notes, although I have been reading. The last two weeks have been crazy. Last weekend, we took the kids to a big waterpark (it was a school fundraiser) on Friday and stayed until Sunday, getting back, work was crazy due to budget, my Annual meeting and Mags getting sick and then this past weekend, I was in Texas with my family and while there my father got sick. All is slowly improving. Mags is on antibiotics, my dad is out of the hospital and on his way back home today and our budget cut was reversed (although I fear some people here may try and get revenge on our department as they were not happy about it). I must say I am looking forward to the holiday lull that normally comes to the office following Thanksgiving.
I have done a bit of reading, read another Tasha Alexander - A Fatal Waltz and have started the new Nora Roberts - The Perfect Hope.
Donna - glad to hear that you survived the door accident, that sounds very scary.
Sandi - Congrats on the new job.
Glad to hear that noone had too much trouble with Sandy. Will try and pop back in here this week.

Monday night
Oh my gosh DonnaH, I just read your story! I think you finished turning the rest of my hair gray! You certainly have a guardian angel looking over you for sure. You are so lucky that the door didn't break your back! I hope you aren't too sore now.
I sincerely hope that my computer problems will be over with the new router/modem. I'm connected with a cable to the modem now; I have wires all over the place.
This year just keeps on giving and giving. A close friend of mine has Stage 4 cancer in her abdomen, uterus, liver, back, both lungs and wrist. She's lost over 100 lbs in a year. She was supposed to start chemo today but she couldn't go to the bathroom yesterday and I'm sure they didn't do it as she's in the hospital now and can't have visitors. I saw here a month ago when we went to an activity for my grad school which she also attended and the only thing about her I recognized was her voice! Please pray for Sharon; she needs a miracle.
I'm reading The Recruit by Monica McCarty, the latest in her Highland Guard series now. It's somewhat different than the others and does refer back to the actions that have taken place in the other stories a lot. But it's still pretty accurate historically and you know how I like history!
The week before the election I had lunch with a high school classmate whom I hadn't seen in many years. He was in FL visiting his grandchildren and stopped in on his way to the Tampa airport (yes, I'm that close if you want to stop by too). He thought that we hadn't seen each other for 44+ years; I thought we hadn't seen each other in almost 50 years. It turns out that we were at our 25th and 40th reunions together (I have the photos to prove it)! Also, he's an ultra-conservative and, I'm a liberal; we had many FB wars during the election. I was nervous about meeting him b/c of it but we left politics out of it and had a great time catching up. I took my yearbook and we went through it, page by page. It was really nice.
The Celtic Thunder concert was awesome!! There was no one between me and the stage!! sigh......... I got a smile from the new guy when they were singing their signature song, "Ireland's Call," and I was following along with the motions. Another time, they were pointing during a song; I was pointing along with them and one of them pointed right back! Each one took a turn this time and spoke to the audience which made it so much more intimate. sigh...............................
Oh yeah, the man sitting to my left was twenty years younger than me and was by himself. I was talking to him and after the concert, I said that maybe I'd see him next year. He said maybe sooner and then hugged me! That's two men twenty years younger than me who've been attracted to me in six weeks! This has never happened before but sure feels great!
Off to bed, early (8:30) doc appt. tomorrow. Ugh!!!

Holiday Monday
Good morning, everyone!
Ugg, I didn't like that color -- too hard to see. I just thought that seeing as it was a holiday I'd change colors. I guess not.
Amanda, cool picture, even if you didn't take it. {:-) I'd celebrate Christmas 6 months of the year if Hardy would let me. . . I totally agree with you that my mom should get her teeth pulled instead of root canals and crowns. I told my sister that (the one who goes up there every 2nd wk-end). She agrees, too, but those are 2 stubborn old people who've been taught all their lives that you don't thwart authority, and doctors and dentists are authority. . .
Goodness, working 13 days in a row -- I sure couldn't do it anymore, though I used to do that and more in my younger years. Of course, it depends on the line of work, and the hours, too. I worked at the TV station, so it was mostly sitting down and watching two channels at once. Nothing like hauling a semi plus trailer over snow-covered roads, or some other similar job. I hope you have a calmer time this week!
Trudy, I hope your computer woes are over now! Free equipment is always nice. {:-)
Donna M, sounds like you were making carrot soup??? MMMMM, I could smell it cooking all the way up here. Smells delicious!! Do you have a special recipe you use???. . .
Very nice pictures, as usual! You sure can think of more different kinds of pictures to take than I can. . . a flag against the sky, and through a windshield -- wonderful!!!
Did your football team win the game you were watching?
Sandi, how's the new job coming? I surely do hope it's going to be better than the old one was. I might have grumbled about the people I worked with, and the stress, etc, but never can I think of a time when it was as bad as what you were putting up with. I'm thinking that they figured people are so stressed for jobs that they'll put up with anything. I'm so glad you were able to get out of there into something (that looks) better!
I was reading in the livingroom while Hardy was watching TV. (we do that a lot) This preacher was talking about "The Tongue" and how it can get us into trouble, gossip, meddling, etc. He was giving examples of gossip and meddling. While I agree with his examples of gossip, he had really dumb examples for meddling. Like: "Where are you going for your vacation?" and "How's your new job working out?" I'm thinking that he sure doesn't know what meddling is. Of course, if you carried the conversation further, it could become meddling if you weren't careful, but not the way he was putting it.
I was at eH the other day -- ordered my books for the month. Anyhow, do you remember Kim, Rob, and BP? Well, BP was washing dishes and she broke something, cut her hand pretty bad. Right around the base of the thumb, and a couple of cuts closer up toward the wrist. They quickly wrapped it in a towel and took her to the ER where they were made to wait for several minutes until Kim finally just went in there and yelled at them. Turns out she had cut an artery, and the nurses even had a hard time getting it to stop bleeding. She's got 15 stitches, and won't be taking her swimming lessons or playing in band for several weeks.
"Joy to the world. . ." ever heard of the group Boney M? That's who's on my stereo right now. {;-) ". . . and heaven, and heaven, and na-ture sing!" Ah! I love it!!! {:-)
Hardy's been outside shovelling out a path to our storage shed so we can bring the tree in, now that it's stopped snowing. Snowed here from Thurs evening until yesterday afternoon. We've got 4' drifts in places. Still not as bad off as NY. . .
Have a good week, everyone!

Sunday, Veteran's Day 11/11/2012...
In memory of all the Veterans & those serving in the military.
The picture above was take when I stopped at the library. I just happened to look up & see the flag against the dark clouds blowing in the breeze. Always a great picture.
Donna H, oh my goodness. I am so very glad to know that you are okay. I bet the bruises & scrapes did not feel good the next day. That is when the muscles usually protest after a fall, bump. Wow, you are so right in saying it could have been much worse. Sometimes it just doesn't take much for a big item like that to fall. When I was reading what happened, Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! kept going through my mind.
I should have started my soup about half an hour ago! I will be eating later than I want! The soup itself is easy it is peeling all the carrots to make it! It takes at least 12 carrots, a lot of peeling & chopping!! But it sure tastes good, plus there will be leftovers!!
Yesterday I read a really Hot, spicy book. Whew!! It was Paradise Awakening by Jaci Burton, it is rated either sensuous or erotic. Not sure which. It is an older book of hers. It might be shocking to some! Fifty Shades of Grey has nothing on this book!!!!!
We went from having weather in the 80's to some cloudy, showery days & very cool (cool for here). The last couple of days it has not even reached 60. It is very noticeable after the warm days. Last night was suppose to be down to about 29, it was quite frosty this morning. Our first taste that winter will come. Our version of it anyway!!
Amanda, I like that picture thanks. Looks like a great place to just hang out, watch the river, eat ice cream. I love a spot like that. It would be great if you get a new camera. Keep us posted.
Trudy, glad you got to stop in to say "hi". I hope the new equipment will keep your computer running smooth. No Internet! Let us know when you can.
This is enough for now. The 49'er-Rams game is in overtime. Neither team has been able to score. Each team missed a field goal! Here is another picture from my excursion one day when we had showers. I was taking pictures when it started raining. I got in the car then decided to take a picture though the windshield. Not bad, at least you can see what it looked like. This is on one of the back roads. There are lots of places to pull over.
Good bye for now. Please stay healthy & safe Everyone.

Saturday night
Hi Ladies. I am playing with my new computer. So the above is a picture of the Bristol Wharf. The establish date that you can't read is 1681. I didn't take this picture - I couldn't find one I had there from this angle. Most of mine are from sitting under it. The water is the Delaware River. We go down during the summer to sit there, eat ice cream (there is an ice cream place around the corner) and watch the boats. Always enjoyable.
DonnaH -- OMG, that must have been a horrible experience! I am so glad you were not seriously hurt. Hope you are feeling better. It sure doesn't hurt to thank the angels:) I have to say, my Christmas tree won't be up until the first weekend of December and I will take it down New Years day. I love christmas, but a full month of the tree is enough for me - lol. I can't believe they would want to do root canal on your mom. I think that's just greedy! Pull the tooth - that's what I say. And a heck of a lot cheaper to boot!
DonnaM -- Love your pics as always. I asked David for a new camera for Christmas. I love pics and don't always think to take me camera with me. Tonight I did it the lazy way - lol! And I have to agree with you - yeah to no more political ads!
Trudy -- Glad to see you check in. Yeah on the free computer equipment. Hope it fixes your problems you've been having with it and we will see more of you:)
Mary -- Was so glad to see we are having nicer (if a little cloudy) weather this weekend. The cold this week sucked. And snow on Wednesday - ugh! We didn't get much but driving home from work in it, and dark, didn't make my day. I felt for the people in NJ/NY too. Seems they can't catch too many breaks at the moment. Another reason I was glad to see nice weather for a few days. The puppet show sounds like fun - glad you had a good time.
David finally had a day off today, after working 13 straight. Of course, he's working tomorrow. Only two stops - should only be 5-6 hours. At least traffic won't be as bad for him. Didn't do too much today - took Amelia to dance, went to Kohl's to pick up a Xmas gift for her, everyone but her got a haircut today, she's at her gf's for the night, went food shopping and ran out tonight. We were gone half an hour or so, and on our way back home an accident happened and we had to go the long way to our house. Cops, fire engines, ambulance - the whole works. Stopped at mom's but she didn't hear any of it. David walked down to see what happened, and they still had to get this girl out of her car with the Jaws of life. Seems she was flying and hit another car (not sure how it happened) and one of them went airborne and landed on a BMW that was for sale. Will be checking the paper tomorrow for this story.
Haven't read this week. Not sure why, just hasn't happened. Think I will do that now before going to bed. Hope everyone has a happy Sunday!
Amanda
