Hi everyone! I had trouble getting in to post but after signing into my account again I finally got here. I was able to read all the posts though. It's been several days since I was here.
We had a nice Memorial day at Karen's. Because of the heat we ate indoors and cooked some of the stuff inside and some outside. I baked my 'Krimpet' cake which is a family favorite. The kids were extra excited because Jacob got his new big boy bed and they couldn't wait to show us! He is so proud of not sleeping in the crib anymore. Karen and Jer had spent the weekend getting the bed up and putting in some new stuff in the kids' rooms.
Donna H--glad you got home safely and had a good time on your trip.
Margie--I am a steak lover also. Usually we cook them at home but occasionally is it nice to go out and have someone else do it. I have never been disappointed with Outback's steaks. We have a large Latino community here in our county. Our grocery stores do have large ethnic foods sections. For years we had a delicious, authentic Mexican restaurant here but the owners returned to Mexico. I took Spanish lessons years ago and our Spanish teacher (who was from Puerto Rico) introduced us to the restaurant. I loved their tamales. Wish I could learn how to make them. Anyway, she also told us that the US government came up with the term Hispanic (I did not know this before) and that most Latinos preferred being called Latinos. Kind of like most Native Americans prefer being called American Indians. That was interesting about your store not having queen sized sheets--something I never thought about! Funny you should mention Gavin turning the water on several times a day. Jer had to turn the water off inside the house so Jake wouldn't turn it on last summer. So far this year he has left it alone.
Donna M--I hope the rash is nothing serious. It is most likely from something in the house where you stayed. But maybe not. Keep us posted.
Cady--I don't buy very many books anymore but when I do it is regular sized p/bs. Only if a favorite author has one come out in trade will I buy one. Fortunely I can get most of the books I want from the library now. I am looking forward to reading The Kingdom and finding out more about Amelia.
Sandi--You can purchase The Good Father on Amazon but I haven't seen it is the stores yet. I have read a lot of DC's books and enjoyed them. Hopefully the library will get this on in. We like going to the Philly zoo and try to go once a year with the kids. Karen has a membership and as Cady said it pays for itself with only a few visits.
I would like to get an IPad one of these days. I enjoyed the discussion about bbqing! Don will do it if I insist. He uses a charcoal grill. My dad wasn't much of a bbqer, so my mom learned and she got pretty good.
I am still reading The Book of Love. It is long but worth the time to read it. We are going to the Phillies game on Saturday. This is our annual family game. You might remember last year it was rained out. This year looks like nice weather. We are all looking forward to it. I even bought a new Phillies cap today.
I hope you all have a great weekend and do some reading!

Hi Everyone,
DonnaM, Please know I'm not offended! Don't worry about that really. Just curious if it was like the grocery stores etc. that do that. I don't shop at them unless there is someting specific I need so if it was my WalMart I would be very frustrated too. Anyway, Gavin is a lot like your daughter. He sometimes gets in trouble for the water. He It is okay most of the time but now he thinks he can just turn it on when he wants. Sometimes he gets into the water 3 or 4 times a day. Good thing he has a lot of cloths! I will see The Best Exotic Hotel again on DVD too. It was so good. Lucky you ....yummy chocolate. I hope you are able to enjoy it. My dentist takes a vacation to Europe every year and he office staff go too. The assistant was saying that her favorite place was Brussels out of places like France, Italy, Germany. She loved it there and said it was beautiful. Yikes, on your rash. I hope it is nothing serious. It is alway like that isn't it. When you have to go some where or expect company...something happens. With us it seems to be a plugged kitchen sink right before a party. Yes, it happened on Saturday and we had are bbq anyway on Sunday. Could it be a bad bunch of flea bites from the pets? I'm allergic somewhat to flea bites. They sometimes get huge like a spider bite.
Sandi, Those .99 cent prices for the kindle books and free books are so tempting. Plus the library has so many books on the kindle now so that is another reason I want one.
Cady, I hope you like the CC book when you try it. I enjoyed book two even more. Even if you only get to use the IPad mostly for work, I'm still jealous!
Nothing new here just still reading L.Adrian. My friend brought me some books today at lunch by Sabrina Jeffries. I've never read her before. It's a series about siblings trying to solve their parents murders. They are historical and sound good.
I love that its Thursday already!
Margie :)

Thursday, 5/31/2012... end of May!
Good Morning Everyone,
This picture gives you a tiny idea of how huge the Grand Canyon is. I tried to get some pictures that show how it stretches out further than the eye can see. Hope I'm not repeating anything. I'll move on to some other places soon!!
Today I am so excited because my friend from Vermont is here in the area for a visit. We are getting together tonight for dinner with another mutual friend. It will be a fun evening. There is a new place we are going to because it is easy, lots of parking & my other friend that lives here in the area has been there. It is named PJ's a brew pub type place. It has been opened less than a month, I think!!
Just because I'm leaving on a trip, just because I've been gone for pet/house sitting life threw something into the mix to keep it interesting! I have a rash on my legs up my shin bones that has spread some but not to bad. It is a little itchy & bumpy!! Luckily I was able to get into my doctor this afternoon. I'm hoping he can give me something to put on it. Have no idea why I would break out with this now. It is rather ugly!! I'll let you know what I find out. Just in case life was getting to boring I guess!!! Since I rarely have any health related problems maybe it is more of a shock. I have noticed in the last few years that my skin is much more sensitive.
This is all for now. I need to get some things done before I head out for the doctor. I haven't heard from my travelers yet. I didn't want to call them yesterday because I figured just trying to get back to our time zone was enough!! Cady, I hope the chocolate survived also!!
Another picture just to keep it going! I found these trees interesting. They are old, weathered by wind, rain etc. & obviously no longer alive.
Have a great day Everyone. Happy reading,
Donna M
It is heating up here!
Welcome Back DonnaH, look forward to hearing about your trip.
Margie - I still haven't read the Christie Craig book, now that I know it is humor, I want to wait until I am in the right mood for that. I am with you on the Ipad price, I have wanted one for a long time, when my office said they thought it might be a good idea, it was hard not to just say yes, but actually come up with work things that make it productive. It is very helpful for work, but I am also enjoying playing with it. Trudy, I second Margie's recommendation for the Secret and Ransom by Julie Garwood, those are two of my favorites.
Sandi - When Elijah gets older if he enjoys the zoo, Richard should look into a ZooPass, we have one here. It covers admission and parking and all we have to do is go 3 times a year and it pays for itself. I find the zoo a great place to just take the kids and walk around. We usually pack a lunch and then buy ice cream or popcorn, so it is a cheap trip with the pass.
DonnaM- Belgium chocolate - yummy. I remember my folks bringing me back some 30 years ago - Chocolate Champagne Truffles. That was before it was easy to find good chocolate. It was divine. I hope yours survived the trip.
Still reading The Kingdom, didn't get much read as I talked to another Mom. Am taking my car in tomorrow and hopefully that will be the end of its problems. Hope everyone has a great Thursday.
Cady

Wednesday, 5/30/2012...
Good morning Everyone,
I'm so happy to see all the posts & read about every one's weekend. Sounds like you were all busy having fun.
Yes, that is another picture at the Grand Canyon. If you have been there you know that there is a lot of diversity in the rock colors & formations. I just wish we had been able to stay for sunset. Don't let me go there!! I don't like holding a grudge but...
Margie, I'm so glad to hear another opinion on The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. I just loved it! When it comes out on DVD I will watch it again. Great humor & I can relate to the retirement issues even though it is different in England. Hearing about Gavin helping to water brings back memories of my youngest. I can't begin to tell you how many times that she got into trouble with water as a little girl!! We had a lot of wind here in the last week also but no thunder & lightening or rain, not even a sprinkle. Margie I hope you didn't take offense at the Latino/Latina remark because I sure did not mean it that way. They carry a lot of items that have both Spanish & English, it is the colors, etc. Hard to put it into words. Because of the vineyards we do have a lot of Spanish speaking people in the area. They seem to have a real gift for agriculture & are hard workers.
Sandi, I'm laughing about Mike not grilling/BBQing!!! Too funny! Even I could BBQ when I lived somewhere that I could! My ex wasn't good at that either so I learned. Maybe hearing about you clearing out books will inspire me. I've done small sorting out but need to really go through the shelves & bags of books to do more. I usually donate to one of the library sales or sometimes add them to a bookshelf here at our complex so other can read. There are a few here that read romance but most of them don't like the "naughty" ones. Guess they can't even say sexy or hot!!!! To each his own.
DonnaH, Welcome back. Glad you had a good trip & enjoyed the visit with your sister. Catch up when you can. I'll be doing that after Oregon. I might be able to check in a couple of time but will just have to wait & see. Mostly when I am in Oregon with family & friends I don't think about the Internet to much except for my bank account!!!
Last night I did not get home until shortly after 11 o'clock. The people I was house/pet sitting for had a long delay in Chicago after boarding the plane. The delay was so long that at some point they let people off to eat, use the restroom etc. I talked to them at one point & they said it had something to do with the air conditioning. She was worried about my Belgian chocolate that they bought for me melting! Hope it is still edible!! They started out their day in Belgium which is 9 hours ahead of us so by the time they got home they had probably been up for over 24 hours. They were already wiped out from two weeks of traveling, sightseeing & just wanted to be home. They were still not home at 11 pm. I hope they got there soon after. Once they arrived in San Francisco they should have been able to get their bags & head for the car. I'm guessing that they went through customs in Chicago. I think it is at your first point of entry into the US. I'll find out after I get to talk to them. Maybe tomorrow. Anyway, it was midnight before I got to bed, then I needed to read awhile because I was tired but wide awake. I watched the 20/20 by Katie Couric on the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth. Very interesting & enjoyable.
I best get busy as I haven't even gotten dressed yet. Later I am having a haircut & need to get myself to a grocery store. There is absolutely nothing to eat here!!! Where I was staying is the lady that has Celiac disease so I need pasta!!! I had toast this morning!! Amazing how we can feel deprived.
Wish the light had been better for this one! Still, it is the Grand Canyon!!! Good memories.
Have a great day, happy reading,
Donna M
Wednesday
Donna, glad to hear you're back and had a good if exhausting time! Sorry to hear that there were internet issues, but glad you were able to fix them!
I agree that it should be illegal not to bbq in Texas! My dad made some awesome ribs! I wish I knew how, because I would certainly be tempted to try it myself!
Tomorrow we're doing preschool graduation. That will mean a long day for me, but what can be done! I hope the parents like the program, because the kids have worked really hard.
I read all those comments about the IPAD. I have to admit to just loving mine! I can't tell you how many times I grab it rather than booting up my computer! In fact before work this morning I was using it to look up some book titles as I was working on dejunking more books. I will admit to even buying a book, or two, or maybe three! One of the books I was considering dejunking was only 99 cents for the kindle, and so I bought it and a couple more that were 99 cents from the same author. I haven't read the author yet, but several of my friends had and have enjoyed her, so I caved! LOL!!
The weekend of the 8th T.I is doing a free weekend at the zoo, but Fresh Fiction is doing a Boas and Tiaras tea, and so I told Richard to get with his dad and see about taking Elijah, but I can't go. It's been forever since I've been to the zoo, and I know the Dallas Zoo has done renovations.
Well, I think that's about it for the moment. Hope everyone is good!
Sandi

Tuesday night
Hi Everyone
Mary, I've never been to Outback but I love steak so I would love to try it. There was a local restaurant that made great steaks with big fries or a baked potatoes and veggies. I loved going there but then the owner sold the place. I wanted a steak dinner from the new owners but we decided to order it take out. That was the worst meal. The steak tasted like ashes. It was so gross. I've never been back. I heard that the previous owner bought it back but I'm not sure and I haven't been brave enough to try it out again. I'm enjoying the C. Craig books. I think they are very cute. I liked this second one even better then the first. Gavin also loves hot dogs and fruit. He hates milk but I was the same way as a kid. I still don't drink it unless I have a very chocolate desert or cookie.
Donna, It is always nice to be back home in your own bed. I have my ballot too and have been procrastinating getting it done. I really have to admit that I'm not in the mood to fill it out but I also hate not to vote. I'm curious about your WalMart. I think the WalMart nearest me is really great. It is huge and has a full grocery, full clothing department, full garden department, pharmacy, auto shop, and all the rest. I'm Latina and I know what you mean about stores catering to the Latino community. There are some small grocery stores in town that carry primarily food products for Latino people but I'm wondering how WalMart does that or how they are catering to Latinos in your area. I was at a Macy's several years ago in San Jose. I was looking for queen size bedding and the selection was horrible. I asked the sales lady if there were any in the back she could bring out and she said no that the queen size goes fast in their store because it caters to the Asian community and they have a lot of queen size beds. This is why the selection was bad. I thought about it and realized that the store did have a huge petite women's section. Heaven for my mom who is so tiny like many Asian women. The sales lady told me to go to the Macy's at Valley Fair because most people that shop there buy the king size so I'd find more queen there. We went there and I did find lots of queen.
Trudy, My friend loaned me a Monica McCarthy book that is a Highlander book but I'm not sure which one it is. I love reading Highlander books. You mentioned not too long ago that you read The Prize by Julie Garwood. I love that book. I know it is not a Highlander book but it was really good. Have you read Julie Garwood's other books? The Secret and it's sequel Ransom are so good. Also, I really like Paula Quinn's Highlander series. She mixes in some history in with the fiction.
Amanda, Those are really cool cars. Last month I was driving home and there was a line of classic cars driving out of town. I found out that there had been a car show in town that day but since I don't read the local paper I didn't know about it. On the evening news I heard that there had been a bad accident on the freeway involving a classic car so I assumed it might have involved one of the cars I saw. So sad.
Sandi, Yes we had our bbq. It was winy and cloudy on Friday and when I got home after work, the thunder and lightening started. There was also a bit of hail. Saturday was clear but windy so we decided to go ahead with it on Sunday. It turned out to be a very nice day even with a bit of wind. Everyone came over about 4:00 and didn't leave until 9:00 that night. We just talked and played games....and ate and ate. I'm shocked your husband doesn't bbq at all. My dad always did the grilling but after his stroke that stopped. My sister has actually been getting really good at it. She does chicken and hamburgers. Her next test will be the ribs.
Cady, My aunt talks about her coworker who has an IPad and she said it was so awesome. I too would love one of those but no way with that price....I'm lucky to get the cheapest Kindle! Your weekend sounded very busy. It's crazy how the kids will get in the pool no matter what the weather is like. Gavin love the water. He has to help grandma water the plants everyday so of course he gets soaked. He sometimes cries to go out on rainy days to water the plants.
Like I mentioned, we did have a bbq on Sunday and it was really fun. Then on Monday, I stayed in and just read all day. Finished Desperate, Divorced and Dating by Christie Craig. I liked this one more than book one. I like the humor in her books. Now I am reading Darker Than Midnight by Lara Adrian. It is the latest in her Night Breed series. I read the several of the first books and then just got busy with other books so I haven't read the last 3 or 4 in the series. I've wanted to read this hero's book for a long time and now she wrote it so I decided to pick it up even though I haven't followed the series for a while. I'm enjoying it.
I wanted to mention that on Saturday I went to the movies and watched The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It is about a young Indian man who opens a hotel that caters to the elderly. But his hotel isn't exactly ready for customers. It was very good. It had humor and some serious moments. I really recommend it.
Time to say good night!
Margie :)

I'm finally back
I didn't take the time to read all the posts, I'll try to catch up in the next couple of days. Just dropped in to let everyone know that I'm back, had a great time visiting my sister, but also am glad to be home. Got home to find out that my internet had been down since the day after we left, and didn't get it back up and running properly till yesterday, and then I had 200 emails to sort, read, and/or delete. Anyhow, it's 12:40 a.m. here, and I'm tired, so I'll add more later. {:-)
Tuesday
DonnaM - I definately wish they would make more books in regular size. Truthfully, I feel that Tradesize is just another way to charge more for the book. However, I am more willing to do tradesize than hardcover. Glad you had fun at your parade.
Amanda - that is great that you get the week of the Fourth of July off. With it being a Wednesday, I would love to take Thursday/Friday off, but since we are on vacation the week prior, I will be working those days, but might try and get out early. :) As for old cars, Mike's brother has a '49 Nash that he totally restored. His dad also gave Mike an old convertible that is basically restored. However, it needs some work to make it road worthy and truthfully, it is the ugliest gold color I have ever seen. I have recommended painting it black as then I think it would be so cool, but no go.
Margie - I actually don't have a Kindle, my office just bought me an Ipad so I could take it to meetings - otherwise I have to hand do my notes and then transcript everything. Several of the board members have one and thought it would be a good thing to have for the office and since we have the budget, I was allowed to get it. Since I am the only user, I have downloaded a couple of books on it. I had been debating buying one, but the cost was just too much. However, I must admit I love it. I hope you were able to have your bbq and your day of nothing on Monday.
Mary - I did enjoy the Kingdom, I had heard some mixed reviews as the hero from book 1 is not in this book at all. However, since I didn't have a big attachment to him, that didn't bother me. Truthfully, I really liked the new love interest hinted at in this book, but again there are major obstacles, so I don't know that it will go anywhere, but I enjoyed learning more of Amelia's past. I am with you on restaurants, I enjoy going somewhere where I don't have to worry about dishes or cooking. Glad you had fun at Outback.
Trudy - I am glad that you found the bookmark that works for you. I have one for the site and it makes it a lot easier to get here. I am sorry to hear about your AC. We had to replace one at the old house, definately not fun. I am hoping the one here will last a while.
Sandi - I can't believe that Mike doesn't BBQ - isn't that illegal in Texas? :) Does he cook at all? My Mike only does BBQ or breakfast. We bbq a ton once the weather is warm enough.
We had a busy and fun weekend. The kids were off school on Friday, so I took a day of vacation and we went to the Children's Museum. We hadn't been in years as when we went last, it wasn't very nice and was a bit expensive. They have added a ton of stuff, so the kids enjoyed it. However, it is really a two hour thing, so it is still a bit expensive. Then since we were downtown, we went to the Lake to eat at a beach shack that just opened for the season, unfortunately, the wind was off the lake, so after lunch, the kids ate their ice creams in the car. Brrrr. Rainy day on Saturday, so we didn't do much, had some friends in for dinner and did some landscaping. We had someone come in and create some shade gardens in the front of the house and ground out some shrubs, so we needed to add some plants. Then over to a friends on Sunday as it was suppose to be hot and he had a pool. The weather was nice, but definately not hot, but it was fun, the kids swam and played sports. Then yesterday, we hit the zoo and it was way hot. We had planned on doing some errands in the afternoon, but ended up just relaxing. As such, I hardly did any reading. I am reading the next Amelia Peabody book - Deeds of the Disturber. However, both kids have dentist appointments tonight, so that should give me 30 to 45 minutes of solid reading. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

Tuesday
Donna, to read older posts...there's an option that says older posts, and I hit that and scan from there. I write my comments in notepad, and then cut and pasted into the blog.
I agree that I was disappointed that Catherine was second on Dancing, but was really relieved that William didn't win. I think in the long run that's all I probably cared about. Donald sure had an interesting reaction to winning didn't he?
Margie, were you able to have that barbecue? I'm sure I've said this many times, but I am married to the only man in the universe who doesn't like to barbecue or even to eat it! My dad was an awesome griller, and is surely rolling in his grave over the fact that in my family the tradition has died!
Donna, I'm glad that the parade went off without a hitch, and that even though a lot of your friends didn't show you still had fun. Here it was really warm, and I did a bit of book dejunking. I have a lot more of that to do, but I was just plain worn out!
Mary, Elijah is good about drinking his milk, but he doesn't seem to like fruit. I'm not sure why that is, but I'm not a big fruit eater either! I'm not sure that The Good Father is out yet. I got an ARC from Fresh Fiction. It is by Diane Chamberlain. I really like her, and she doesn't seem to let me down. Glad you and hub had a date night. Mike and I went to lunch on Sunday, and to me it just wasn't that great. Because of his diabetes we tend to go to buffets where he can eat a lot of protien and little carb. We went to Golden Corral, and it just seems to have really gone downhill. For what it cost we could have had a nice lunch at someplace like Outback, so I think in the future he'll have to suck it up, and we'll go to a "better" place.
Donna, I hope you enjoy the new books. I know I bought a book or two over the weekend, but they're for my Kindle. I took the money I got from Half Price books and bought a g.c. to Amazon.
Trudy, so sorry to hear about the AC woes. We've had to tear up the concrete slab of our house twice in the years we lived there! The second time they couldn't even give me a good estimate because they couldn't get a camera down the line. I said just guess...best case, and worst case. I guess it was fortunate for us we came in right about the middle. Hope you can get a good deal and some sort of payment plan worked out.
What a nice thing you did for your grandson. I don't know that I would have thought of if after your son treated you so shabbily. Did you get much rain? We got some yesterday, but I have no clue how much, but this close to summer every little bit is good. We're on water restrictions for watering.
Amanda, how was Grandma? Did you get a lot of Nora's book read? Are you enjoying it? A friend is reading it, and not finding it too great. I have to admit I didn't like it as much as I did the first either. I'm really looking forward to the concluding book. I like Hope.
I'm getting totally jealous. It seems like everyone but me has been to The Grand Canyon. I would love to go, but haven't a clue when or if that can come to fruition.
On Sunday I went and bought groceries. I hemmed and hawed about it because I'm not going to be home much this week, and thought they could just eat from the freezer and pantry. Thankfully I did. As I was pushing the cart to the car I noticed that my one tire was bulging. It was also thankfully on the driver side, so I would notice, because to be honest I don't pay much attention to the passenger side. Ended up at Firestone getting two new tires as soon as I had the groceries put up. Mike's car also was due for an inspection, so when we picked up mine we dropped off his.
As I might have said earlier...I have decided to get rid of the ton of books I have and haven't read. I'm slowly working my way through the boxes. I took a bunch of them to Half Price Books where luckily they give cash. I then converted that cash into a g.c. for Amazon, so I can buy whatever, but mostly books for my kindle. I'm keeping the autographed stuff, but otherwise I think it's all going.
I'm also working on getting Mike to dejunk. That's a harder process. We'll see how it goes. Brian says he cleared a bit, but I haven't looked in his room to find out.
Hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

Memorial Day, 5/28/2012...
Happy Memorial Day,
Please remember to take time to say a prayer for those that have served & those still serving.
Since I was the last person to post I am posting another picture & that is my contribution for the day. Yes, the Grand Canyon! And one more!!
Enjoy the day whatever you are doing. I'm back home tomorrow night for a few days then leaving for Oregon. See you all later.
Happy reading,

Finally...5/27/2012
Good Afternoon Friends,
I had trouble connecting with the Internet today. I was all frustrated decided to try calling my provider (AT&T), got help without talking to a real person!!!! Anyway, I so seldom have trouble that I forgot to turn off the modem which I did & just for extra measure I also shut down my power strip & Wala!!! It finally connected. Have no idea why that was happening as everything was fine when I turned it off yesterday. I guess stuff like this keeps life interesting! I could really do without that type of interesting.
The picture is just because there is nothing as fine as the sight of our American flag blowing in the breeze & because it is Memorial Day weekend.
Trudy, I am so sorry to hear the on going saga & mega problem with you A/C. I am glad to hear that the TS Beryl is not hitting your area. We could use rain here also but it is not likely at this point in time! That said Mother Nature has surprised us before with late spring storms! Love what you did for your grandson's birthday. Great idea. You are very clever. How neat that they gave you "Mini Cooper goodies" for him. I'm sure he will be happy! Not to mention, big boobies!!! I laughed out loud at that one! Grandkids are the best! By the way, so happy you could bookmark us & keep coming back! Yea!
Mary, have fun at the BBQ. Sounds like your dinner at Outback was win win! I sooo enjoy someone else cooking & cleaning. My daughter in Eugene is an excellent cook. I get spoiled when I am there because then I have to come back home to eat my own cooking. Now that she is working full time she doesn't do some of the things she use to as there just isn't enough time. I imagine they will BBQ when I am there in June. Yum!!
Amanda, love the car pictures. The last couple of times I got together with my brother we went to a car show & then another time to the "classic tooling town"!! That was so fun seeing all those really cool cars. I think I have some on my digital. If so I will share some with you. Although they were in motion so the shots are not as good as when they are just sitting. Glad your team won! I don't follow baseball but since I live where I do we hear about the Giant's & the A's!
I watched the ending of the Indy 500. I think when I turned it on they had about 32 laps to go. There were a couple of crashes but the drivers managed not to get any other cars involved. That must just be such a downer for the driver, the team, owners everyone when someone ends their race that way. Wish I had just half of what it costs to have a car in the Indy 500! I'd be uber wealthy! Then I could help Trudy.
This should catch me up for now. Lets go back to the Grand Canyon! Great place to be anytime. Trudy, Mary I would also go back in a heart beat! Maybe I will someday. I really have itchy feet as last year I had that trip to look forward to & this year just Oregon. I'm not knocking that just wish I had something to perk me up a bit in the travel department!!! Remember I love rocks, rock formations!!! The Grand Canyon was such an interesting place. Just look at all those layers & colors. Awesome!!
Happy reading, Have fun the rest of the weekend,
Donna M

late night Saturday
Hi again!
Dinner at Outback was good. I haven't been there for a long time. We had a coupon so that's where we went. I had steak and shrimp combo. I had salad instead of the baked potato so I could save room for dessert. Key Lime pie--yum! It was nice to relax and let someone else do the cooking and clean-up. We got home just in time before a thunder storm hit. We could see it getting darker and closer as we were driving home.
Donna M--enjoyed the pics of the Grand Canyon. We were there once 20 years ago. I would love to go again someday.
Trudy--Thanks for the congrats for my sil. We are very proud. Sorry your a/c problem is on-going. We had ours recharged on Thursday. We are hoping to get through this summer with it. We have come to the end of the road now--we have to get a whole new system, a/c and furnace. We got 25 years out of it so I think we got our money's worth. I enjoyed the story about your grandson and what a great birthday gift from you!
Amanda--another Phils win! I was surprised that they left Kyle in. I agree they should leave the others in longer. I'm not sure yet what dessert I am making for Monday. I might just make cupcakes.
So the night owl will sign off now. I'll be up for a while yet probably reading. Everyone enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Saturday night
Hello ladies!
Finally downloaded my newest pics. I had Aurora stand at my favorite color car from last weekend. It was a beautiful day for the show.
Margie -- I read that JM earlier this month. I thought it was good too. Sorry your weather has been a bit dreary. Hope the weekend has been better. Enjoy the bbq:)
Mary -- The Phillies win again! And KK got a complete game. Now that is a shock - both because he isn't exactly our best pitcher and they never seem to leave the starters in. Wish they would do that more often. How was your dinner at Outback tonight? I haven't been there in a long time. What dessert are you making for Monday?
DonnaM --- Someday I'll make it to the Grand Canyon. Have to enjoy your pics in the meantime:) Hope you enjoy the parade. I think they had one in Tullytown today, but I didn't go.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Did some shopping today - mostly for food but did hit B&N and picked up Nora's newest trilogy book. Going to visit my g'mom tomorrow, and will be able to get some reading in on the ride there, since she's lives about an hour or so from me. Will be going to Jen's monday for dinner. Hoping it doesn't rain too much as the humidity has it to rain each day this weekend - sigh. Didn't get much today, so that was a plus.
Will leave you with another car photo. Too bad they don't make them like this anymore.
Amanda
Sat. night
Surprise! I found a bookmark tool on the new version of AOL so I can blog now! YES! It will be so nice to be back; I've missed you all a lot!
Mary~~congrats for your sil! That's awesome and, yes, that's a prestigious organization. You must be so proud of him.
Cady~~You missed probably the BEST season of DWTS ever! It was so good this time that you couldn't afford to blink. I kind of wanted William to win, mainly for Cuba. I agree that he lost based on his mediocre free-style; Cheryl really should have known better.
Donna~~I've been to the Grand Canyon three times and photos don't do it justice; I liked your first one best. It should be on everyone's bucket list; you know that you're really only a speck of dust in this wide, wide world when you see the grandeur of the Grand Canyon. I'll go back in a heartbeat!
Now for the continuing saga of my a/c: On Friday morning, I discovered that the coil had iced up so bad that the filter had frozen to it and couldn't be peeled off until the whole thing melted! Well, I called and they came out, checked everything out but couldn't find any evidence of the dye they had put in. Good news? No, it means that the leak is definitely in the chase line and is under the concrete slab. He put in 2 lbs of freon, went through that much in 2 1/2 weeks. Now I have to wait for the owner to come out and give me an estimate and tell me how they are going to fix it. Yes, it's about as bad as it could be............
As for my sons, one said that I was absolutely correct about the cards. My younger son had a different view, especially after his wife got through with me, although it never got really nasty.
My youngest grandson will be 5 on June 14. Some time ago I found out that he likes Mini Coopers; his parents are going to give him a cake shaped like a Mini Cooper and maybe rent one for a day. My neighbor has a friend who has one and I asked her if I could get my pic taken with it; she said that why didn't I go to the BMW dealership instead? So, being the former teacher that I am, I went there this week and asked them if I could have my pic taken with 10 of them so I could make a photo calendar (already got 2 taken elsewhere). They were so nice! I had different hats for each months and a Christmas sweatshirt (that was fun in 90 degree heat). They gave all kinds of books, stickers, and stuff for him too. I can hardly wait to see the calendar. To top it off, this week, my grandson told his mother, when asked what he wanted for his birthday, that he wanted "great, big boobies!" He'll be getting them too! My dil is worried b/c I told her that Dawson is getting everything he wanted for his b-day! All he has to do is to look at the photos of his grandma! LOL! I only saw him once when he was 4 1/2 mos. old so he doesn't know who I am but after next year, he will surely will now.
I'm reading Monica McCarty's Highland Guard's The Saint right now. It's the fifth book in the series. You all know how I like my Scottish historical romances and hers are among the best. This is about Robert the Bruce's legendary Highland Guard and historically accurate and full of detail. I did read both of Brenda Jackson's books that Tell Harlequin sent me; they were well-written but not really my cup of tea.
Yesterday, it was 97 here; today it was 95. We won't get TS Beryl but will get some of the much needed rain from the outer bands on Monday. And hurricane season hasn't even started yet! Have a great holiday those of you who won't be affected by Beryl.

Memorial Day weekend, 5/26/2012...
Hello to Everyone,
Since it is quiet here I hope you are all having a fun weekend. Since it is a travel weekend for some I thought I'd take you back to the Grand Canyon which is probably very busy this weekend. Would not want to be there!! It was just a nice busy when we were there not over crowded.
I did a quick dash to Wal Mart and of course picked up some more books!! Just what I need, right!!! I got Jill Shalvis' latest Lucky In Love & a couple of the newest Blaze. I did get the other things I needed or at least some of them. They didn't have a good selection for a couple of things. It seems our closest Wal Mart is really catering to the Latina/Latino population. I had not been in there for awhile but I didn't want to take the time to go to Santa Rosa where it will be super busy all weekend with traffic etc. There are a lot more cars on the road which makes it easy to tell it is a holiday weekend.
There is only a few more days until the pet sitting is over & I am ready to be back home! That will probably be a short stay as I was planning to leave on Sunday the 3rd of June. Before I do that I have to make myself sit down to do my mail in ballot for the election. I haven't studied any issues, candidates or anything! Not in the mood for all that but I hate to not vote, it is a must for me.
Another picture from the Grand Canyon & I will say bye for now. Hope you all have a fun but safe weekend. This one is looking down into the canyon.
Happy reading,
Donna M
Saturday afternoon
Hi guys! It has been quiet in here.
Thank all of you for the congrats for my son-in-law. As you can tell, we are very proud of him and grateful to have him in our lives. I don't know how long his term is--at least a year--but he could be reelected. It doesn't involve travel so much as more meetings to attend. But it is all part of the position. They will be having some fun events over the next year as it is their 100th anniversary year. Karen was able to attend the dinner when he was placed in office. And she tells me he gave a great speech.
Sandi--is the Good Father the one by Diane Chamberlain? I would like to read it but our library system hasn't gotten it in yet. As far as Elijah eating, as everyone has said, he'll eat when he is hungry. That's what the doc told my dd and sil about Jacob. He is still not a great eater but he is growing normally so his body is getting enough nutrition. He does love milk and fruit and hot dogs!
Cady--I hope Maggie is feeling better now. Especially with a long weekend to enjoy. Did you like The Kingdom?
Amanda--Phils are on a winning streak again! I hope it continues. The games against the Cardinals have been good ones. The weather was so nice then we got this humidity. But the sun is shining so I guess we shouldn't complain. ;-)
Margie--I too have lots of great photos from the pre-digital age. The good thing is I also have the negatives so that is something at least. I agree with you that Cheryl on DWTS hurt William's chances by a mediocre dance for their free-style. I have never read any Christie Craig books but have seen them recommended. I will have to check our library system.
Donna M--I have been enjoying the flag pictures. I'm glad you enjoyed the parade. Those hometown parades are great. I marched in ours (in my childhood hometown) as a Girl Scout and then in my high school band for many years. I always loved those parades the best because we knew so many of the people along the route.
As for my reading, I read about half of the Carole King book but had to return it. I will get it out again sometime. I read one of the Brenda Jackson books from Tell Har. --Solid Soul. It was ok, nothing special but a nice love story. I am now reading The Book of Love by Kathleen McGowen which is the second book in her Mary Magdalene trilogy. It is very good but long.
Our Memorial day weekend plans include a dinner out tonight with the hub. We are going to Outback. Tomorrow is veg day. Monday we are going to a BBQ at Karen's. I will be bringing dessert as usual. I hope all of you have fun plans and have a good time. Stay safe!
Mary

Stay safe!

Hi Everyone,
Since no one except Margie has stopped by I think everyone is getting ready for the nice long weekend. I hope you have fun plans.
The picture is more of the Flags Flying for Memorial Day.
Margie, I hope you will be able to get a lot of reading done even though you have plans to be productive! Enjoy whatever you do. A BBQ sounds delicious. Yes, our weather is very breezy & cool but mostly sunny. It is only in the 60's today. When I talked to my cousin yesterday in Medford, OR., it was only 49 & raining. No complaints here for the weather. I think it is suppose to be a little warmer on Sunday. There is a slight possibility we could get a sprinkle or two. The Sierra's are suppose to get snow!!!
This morning I finished reading a Blaze, Blazing Bedtime Stories Volume VI. The authors for these two stories were Tori Carrington & Kate Hoffmann. They were okay! Usually these are fun to read as they are take offs on a fairy tale but for some reason these two didn't have quite the appeal. I did not totally dislike them but thought they weren't up to par for these two authors. I'm just starting to read Barefoot Season by Susan Mallory. It shows great promise.
The local parade last night was fun. Despite the fact that my friends were not there several of the people I know gathered on their corner anyway. The parade is always fun to watch the kids & animals & it was fun talking with neighbors & friends. I had forgotten that the official name is Healdsburg Twilight Parade. It started in the 50's when some of the local business men went through town on their tractors or other vehicles to get publicity for the small 4-H Fair that is today & tomorrow. I may go over there to check out the junk food!!! There was a nice article about the parade in the paper today.
Another picture to help celebrate Memorial Day.
Everyone have a great weekend. Be safe if you are driving anywhere.
Happy Reading,
Donna M
Hi Everyone
Donna, We are having pooey weather here so I'm sure you are as well. It got so windy and chilly. The weather man said it should be nice tomorrow and through the weekend. I hope so. We were hoping to bbq on Sunday and invite some people over.
Amanda, I read JM's newest The Marine Next Door. It was good. She is a regular buy for me. I really like her books.
I am about half way into my read. It is very cute but I have been busy with not much time to read but I hope to finish it up tonight.
I'll probably spend some of this weekend organizing and maybe I'll go see a movie. If the weather permits, we'll have that bbq. I just want to veg out on Monday and do nothing but read!
I hope you all have a good weekend.
Margie :)

Approach to Memorial Day, 5/24/2012...
Good morning to All,
I thought I would post a few pictures from last year on Memorial Day. One of the Memorial Parks (cemetery) in Santa Rosa does this every year for Memorial Day. There is a ceremony with speakers, all in tribute to the men & women that have served in the military. There are over a thousand flags out on display. As you can see in the picture it was breezy. It is just awesome seeing all the flags out. It is always fun talking to any of the veterans that you get a chance to speak with, especially those guys from WWII. Not many are there anymore from that war. I don't go every year but try to go once in awhile in respect. This was the first time I went since I bought my digital camera. It is impossible to get enough of any overall view but I think you can get an idea of what it looks like. Our cemetery here in Healdsburg also puts small flags out on all the graves of veterans that are buried there. The Boy Scouts help to put them out then collect them after Memorial Day.
It has been very windy here. There is some work being done at the house where I am pet sitting & the plastic they have put up was really whipping around last night! Amazing how noisy that is!
This evening is the "big parade" here in Healdsburg. This is one of those strictly hometown events that wouldn't hold much appeal if you don't live here! Usually some friends of mine have a "Parade party" that is much fun as it is lots of people, lots of munchies & good food not to mention beer, wine, Margaritas (my personal favorite), soft drinks & even water!!! Oh yea, dessert too! It usually ends up being cool toward the end of the even as I think the parade starts at 6:00 pm. One year someone brought hot chocolate in a crock pot with whatever "adult" libations you wanted to add to it or not! No, it is not a drunken brawl as these are all upstanding citizens & the parade, of course, is a lot of the local kids & adults just enjoying themselves. It is really a family affair. It isn't going to be the same this year as that couple are neighbors of where I am now staying & they are also traveling so no party this year. I might go out to watch the parade from the front porch! Usually I pet/house sit for the couple that have the party but both couples had travel at the same time & one booked me sooner!!! It is lovely to be needed. I already have one thing booked in 2013!!!
Nothing new for me. Oh the DWTS finale was awesome! Did I address this before? Wish we could look back at posts when we are writing a new one. If that option is available I am unaware of it!! I was a little disappointed that Catherine came in second but they were all good so it was hard to tell how it would go. I thought Donald's reaction was priceless!!!! I did like his freestyle but also liked the other two.
I'll sign off now with another display of the flags. I'll do several pictures over the next day or two just to remind us all why we celebrate Memorial Day. Not that I think any of you have forgotten. Does anyone have plans for the weekend? Mine is going to be quiet. I'll be indulging in sitting on the front porch to read.
This pictures shows flags for each service branch, sadly a couple of the wreaths had blown over! Yep, it was that breezy.
Take care, happy reading,
Donna M

Wednesday night
Cady -- You said a word I like - FREE. I will now how to check out C. Craig. Sounds like a good read. How's Maggie feeling? How were the ball games? Lacrosse is done, but Aurora starts a summer bowling league next week. I wish I was having a slow down at work. They close for the week of the July 4th, and its crazy leading up to it and crazy when we come back. Catching up never seems to be an option:(
Sandi -- Good deal on the extra check! Its a shame you couldn't take the time off, but extra cash is always a plus. Any extra we get always goes to bills too. It never seems to be "fun" money.
Margie -- What JM book did you read? I just started Beauty and the Badge by her today. She's a fav of mine.
DonnaM -- As always, love the pictures. Some day I will make it to some of these places!
Mary -- Watching the Phillies tonight? A suicide squeeze! Don't get to see one of those very often.
Tonight was "parent night" at the middle school. We left before it ended, mostly because it was just questions being asked, and seemed to be some version of all the same question. Mostly first-time parents there, so I guess that was why. Having done this already, I was just there for a refresher course - lol!
So i finished the Blaze by Karen Foley I was reading last night. Really enjoyed it. Even better is the H, Chance, has a twin brother, whose book comes out in July. Bro is a Special Ops guy. Gotta love a man in uniform. Now I'm reading an older Julie Miller Intrigue in her The Precinct line. Another man in uniform:) Need to find a book for next month's challenge. Something to do over then weekend (yeah - -3 days off!).
Hope everyone is having a good week.
Amanda

Hi Donna Maybe I should say it is more romantic comedy with suspense. ? I thought book one was really cute and book to is the same.
Cady, My friend got it free on Kindle and told me about her so I checked the library. I hope you are entertained. But it is more romantic comedy with suspense then a romantic suspense. I am jealous of the free kindle reads. I am going to get myself one this year. My birthday or Christmas.
Margie ;)

Good afternoon to All,
Nice to see you Margie & Cady!
A last picture from the Sedona area. This was also taken as we left. The colors & the rock formations really are amazing. Even as small as this picture is you can see the layers in the formation showing different colors.
Sandi, did that woman have any idea of what "day care" is? I would have to agree with all of you that she needed a full time nanny to meet her needs. You said she was Indian, as in from India? Sometimes I'm not sure if it is Indian or Native American!! My youngest daughter was a very picky eater as a child. When you mentioned Elijah not wanting to eat the pasta I remembered her eating habits. I talked to the doctor about it once because I was worried that she didn't get the proper nutrition but he said she was fine & she will eat when she is hungry. She always ate a good breakfast no matter what it was. Now she is a much more adventuresome eater & has tried things then introduced me to them. It is so nice when they grow up!
Cady, sorry to hear Maggie has a cough but glad she is okay to go to school. I don't know how it is back there but here there is an abundance of pollen floating around & the last couple of days have been windy. That is no help at all! My eyes have been itchy for what seem like forever!! My allergies haven't been bad enough to take anything. I save that for when it gets really bad!! Maybe her cough is caused by pollen in the air there. How nice that you got a free book to eread while you were waiting. Hope it was a good one.
I've not read the author you & Margie mentioned. Romantic suspense are a favorite of mine. Speaking of books!! I just finished reading Nora's The Last Boyfriend which I loved. For me her books just flow, one minute she has me laughing, then something so sweet or special happens that there are tears in my eyes. One of my friends no longer reads her books as she thinks they are too predictable but for me they are not. I am looking forward to Ryder & Hope's story which should be very interesting. I am also wanting the mystery of Billy resolved. I just wish they would quit publishing these books in trade size!! I would love to go stay at Inn Boonsboro. I checked it out on line, very nice.
Mary, congratulations to your son in law. That is a wonderful professional step for him.
My stay so far at the pet sitting is going fine. I will be going back over soon. There are a few more things I need to accomplish before I leave here. That said I better wind down for now. Margie, you can come help me organize anytime!!! That is not one of my strong points.
I will leave you with a first view of the Grand Canyon with more to follow! If you haven't seen it I think the first thing you realize is how huge/immense it is.
Have a great evening. Happy reading,
Donna M
Morning Everyone
Cady, I'm really enjoying C.Craigs books. She has cute humor throughout. This particular trilogy starts with Divorced, Desperate and Delicious but they are pretty much stand alone and can be read in any order.
Work is slow here too. Its starts getting slow about this time of year and picks up again in July/August. I'm posting here so you can see that I have nothing much to do right now! I hope Maggie starts feeling better soon.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Sandi - Yeah, Mags is going to school. She doesn't have a fever, just a nasty cough and a bit of a sore throat, so since she only has a couple of weeks left, I am having her tough it out. Great news on the extra week's pay. Even if you are going to use it for home stuff, it still feels nice.
Margie - I will have to check out the Christie Craig books. I enjoy romantic suspense and definately like a lighter book now and then. I finally finished the Kingdom this morning (got up a bit early) and it was definately not a light read, so I need something a bit easier next.
Donna - Hope you made something good for dinner.
Luke had his baseball pics last night, it was a madhouse. Unfortunately, Maggie's are tonight, so we get to go again. Not much else happening here, work is slowing down. Soon we should be in the June/July slowdown, which I am looking forward to. Hope everyone has a good Wednesday.

Hi Everyone,
It's been a busy week for me. I've been trying to organize some of the boxes that I had stacked in my room. Finally my room is looking less like storage.
Donna, Those are really beautiful pictures. I loved Sedona. I have a few pictures but they were taken before digital cameras and I would have no clue how to put them on the computer. I hope you are enjoying your house sitting.
Cady, Sorry that Maggie isn't feeling well but it sounds like she had a really good time with her sleep over and the swim party. Gavin has been coughing for a few days but he doesn't want to slow down. He insists on helping grandma water the plants so of course he gets completely wet!
Sandi, I enjoyed DWTS. I really didn't care who won as I thought all the final ones were good but I was leaning towards Katherine because I liked her and she because I thought she was the best technically. Donald won me over with his free style. I thought Cheryl really killed Williams chances because the dance was not unique for a free style. I was not even interested enough to really watch it. I started reading in the middle of it.
That is funny about your dog not liking the floor. I saw a Dog Whisperer episode with a big dog, maybe a Great Dane, that was afraid of shiny floors. He was terrified but they got him to overcome the fear. Those parents are ridiculous! Get a nanny or quit your job!
Mary, Wow you should be proud of Jeremy. That is a great accomplishment. Congratulations!
Amanda, Your spa day sounds so nice. You have a busy week, You are going to need another spa day!
I finished Julie Miller book. It was good. I decided to read Divorced, Desperate and Dating by Christie Craig. It is book two in the series about three girlfriends. I am really enjoying this author. The stories are romantic suspense but light on the suspense.
It's late and I'd better get myself to bed.
Margie :)

Dinnertime, Tuesday, 5/22/2012...
Hi to All,
I only have time for a quick hello & to say I read all the posts. Hopefully I will get here earlier tomorrow to check out emails, blogs, etc.
This picture is the lunchtime view when I was in Sedona. I loved it so I took a picture to remember how lovely it was. We ate outside which was so nice as we got a table in the shade.
It is my dinner time & my stomach is rumbling so I will make comments next time. Glad to see everyone here.
The picture below is a spot we stopped at on the way out of Sedona. Some one there told my friend about another way back toward Flagstaff so we got to see some different scenery instead of going back through Oak Creek Canyon.
Hope you all have a great evening.
Donna M
Tuesday
Cady, I'm sorry to hear that Maggie isn't feeling any better. Has she been going to school? I think maybe Elijah ate a few bites for Richard last night I'm not really sure. When Richard was Elijah's age he would only eat when he was hungry, and boy if he was hungry there wasn't enough food in the world to fill him up! I guess I'll be finding out if he still eats that way!
Today I got paid for the week of vacation time I've not been able to take. If I really felt like I had someplace to go I would have found a way to take it I'm sure, but it was nice that they agreed that I could have a week of pay. Ellen told me to figure out how much that was, and I'm like I don't know, so we agreed on an amount that I'm sure is just a bit more, and now I feel rich! LOL!!! Actually it will just go to paying bills or the floor.
You all better hold on to your hats because today John said he appreciates me! I almost fell out of my chair when he said it. It's a really good thing I was sitting down.
I got to leave early again, so I went to Chick Fil A and had lunch and read a bit of The Good Father, and now I'm at BN. I was working on some Fresh Fiction stuff, but decided to check here. My battery is probably going to die soon, and I'm not sure where an outlet is, so another good reason to quit my Fresh Fiction stuff! I'd hate to lose my work because I wasn't prepared for a battery death!
I'm going to Sara's today instead of yesterday, and not really sure what time we're meeting, so I'm going to sign off for now, and read a bit using the BN read in store feature. I'm reading Jaci Burton's Perfect Play, and I've been enjoying it.
Have a great night!
Sandi

tuesday
DonnaM - I just didn't get into DWTS this season. None of the stars pulled me in and so we just didn't watch. Now, next season if they bring back the people from previous seasons, I think I will enjoy it.
Sandi - Elijah probably just wasn't hungry. My kids can eat the same food I swear for days. I swear Luke eats pasta, pizza and PB&Js. Add a bit of fruit and crackers and he is set. :) Congrats on picking your flooring. Your house is really transforming. As for the cruise, I enjoy water, but don't think I would like to be on a boat for several days.
Mary - Congrats on Jeremy's election. Nice recognition for him. Glad you and Karen had a nice lunch.
Amanda - Sounds like you have a busy week planned. When do the girls get out of school?
Mags is still down with the cold, nasty hacking cough. Hopefully, the sun will burn it out. I did start the Kingdom last night. Again, it pulled me in right away. Tonight, Luke's practice was changed to just team photos, so that should be easy and fun. Not much else today. Hope everyone has a good Tuesday. It is a short week for me as the kids are off school on Friday so I am taking an especially long weekend.

Monday night
Hi Ladies! I started reading posts last night, but didn't finish until now. I got sleepy last night, or I would have finished then. Lets see what I actually remember - lol!
DonnaM - Love the pictures. No, I am not tired of the rocks:) Glad house sitting is going good. Wish I was doing that instead of going to my job.
DonnaH - Will love to hear how your trip went. Don't forget pics!
Mary - Congrats to your sil - that is so awesome! How about the weather over the weekend? Totally gorgeous! Was hoping for some of that tomorrow, but that sure isn't going to happen. I see after the Phillies went on a winning streak, they are back to losing - sigh. They need some hitters, for sure.
Cady - How is Maggie? Feeling any better? Amelia would have been in the pool, just like her. Glad you had a good weekend.
Trudy - So glad you have air! Hopefully it will last longer than you think it will. Terrible that your boys couldn't call you on Mother's Day. Can't blame you for sending that email. Do you think they will take any of it to heart? Also, how was the dance?
Sandi - Is that lady crazy? Where does she think she'll find a daycare that's one on one like that? She definitely needs a nanny. Your dogs are too funny! Of course, when my mom got hardwood floors last year, her cat had issues with it. but considering she had to cross it to eat or use the potty box, it didn't exactly last.
As I mentioned earlier, it was a gorgeous weekend here. Can't understand why we can't have that more often. Saturday we went to Amelia's last lacrosse game. The field (it was actually a baseball field - the girls played the game in center field - lol) was really nice and, of course, I forgot my camera - sigh. Took some pics with my phone, but have no internet on it so can't download the pics. Then I went with some friends to "spa day". Talk about relaxing! I had a neck/shoulder/back massage, a foot massage and a mini facial. The best part was that both women said I looked younger than my age. So nice! Because I know I look old enough to have a 15 year old. The lady who did my facial also said I had nice skin. I was like "really?" This is from someone who's skin has been oily forever, who looked like she had the measles all thru junior/high school and is still broke out most of the time. No doubt, I need to do this more often:)
On Sunday, I went over to the local park, where they were having a mini car show, with live music, food, tents to shop at and things for the kids. Took pictures of almost all the cars and the two trikes. I sooooo want one of those trikes. Can't afford those or any of the restored cars - bummer. Once I download them, I will post a few on here.
This is going to be a pretty busy week. I'm going on Amelia's class trip tomorrow (in the rain - sigh), then have a bowling meeting for the summer league Aurora wants to do tomorrow night. Wednesday is Parent night at the middle school where Amelia will be heading next year, Thursday night is Amelia's school concert and Friday is haircut night. My weekend is looking free though - yeah.
I have gotten some reading in. Finished the second Cindy Dees book I read this month and now reading a Blaze by Karen Foley - Coming up for Air. Its part of the Uniformly Hot! series. This one is actually taking place mostly in Afghanastain, which is different. Hoping to finish it tomorrow.
Ok, off to bed. At least I don't have to be up as early, always a plus:) Hope everyone has a good Tuesday.
Amanda

Monday Again
Cady, I totally forgot to ask how Maggie was feeling. Hopefully she's better now, but sounds like it was a fun filled weekend! You can never talk kids out of swimming if they're really determined. I would think it's a bit cold yet for swimming, but I'm also not fond of water! When Mike and I were discussing the possibility of a trip he mentioned a cruise which would be cool, but since I have an overwhelming fear of water I didn't just jump at the idea!
Mary, you have every right to be proud of your sil. What a tremendous honor. Did your daughter get to go to the dinner where he got installed as president? Will it mean traveling? How long is he president?
I wish you could see Travis. He's still just freaked about our wood floors! Going from one room to the other really scares him. Did I tell you that the other day I had to get Brian to drag him from the bathroom in our bedroom? He just wouldn't move. Have I mentioned that Oreo won't jump on our bed since we put the floor in our bedroom? I have weird dogs!
It's our week with Elijah, and I made a pasta tonight. I guess he's pastaed out because I didn't realize that Richard fed him pasta last night, and they had it at school today as well. Oops! I couldn't get him to eat it for me, and he wouldn't eat any peas either. When Richard finally came home I think he ate some of Richard's pasta, but I'm not sure, as I was busy discussing tile choices with Mike.
I had thought I had made a decision about the tile, but it turns out that I'm going to lay a totally different one! I can't believe it, but it contrasts with the appliances and blends nicely with the oak it will but against. I'm also hopeful that it's going to be a bit easier to clean because it's darker and so maybe the dirt won't show as much.
So what did you all think of Dancing With The Stars? As two of the pros said the freestyle tends to make or break a winner. I don't think William is going to win because I just wasn't that impressed with his freestyle. Katherine's was pretty good, but I think Donald was the one who really wowed the judges.
I'm going to get ready for bed. Have a great Monday night, and a good Tuesday!

Monday evening
Hi everyone!
First of all, allow me to brag a little. Our son-in-law, Jeremy, was named president of the Philadelphia section of the American Society of Civil Engineers last week at their spring social. We are very proud. ASCE is a very prestigious professional society. This is also ASCE's 100th year so it is a special time for him to be president. He works very hard and is a great dad and husband. We are lucky to have him in our lives. Thanks for letting me brag. :-)
Karen and I went for our lunch and shoe shopping yesterday. We hit the Clarks and Naturalizer outlets as well as Carter's (we had to buy the kiddies some stuff too.) Afterwards she filled us in on the dinner and Jer's speech. Needless to say she is very proud of him also.
Cady--you did have a busy weekend. I hope Maggie is feeling ok. I had a chicken and vegetable dish at the Vietnamese restaurant. I went with friends--don't know if I could get Don to go.
Sandi--I hear you about the cycling going on. I was 56 when I was finished. A friend of mine told me that they believe that women having later menopauses means you are not aging as quickly as others. So that is a good thing. I can't believe the situation at work today. That family definitely needs a nanny. Some people just don't get it. Good thing you got to leave early. It seems I am always reorganizing lately. It is an on-going activity.
Donna M--I am enjoying the pictures of Sedona. It is a beautiful place. I hear you about traveling. There are places I want to visit again but then there are so many new places I want to see!
I am back to reading the Carole King bio and it has gotten better. It started slowly but now I am finding it hard to put down. As Donna said this week is the DWTS finale. I am ready for it to be done. Anyone of the three who are left could end up winning.
I hope you are all having a good week.

Monday
Today I got to leave work early. It's really nice when they let me go early. I take advantage when I can! We were supposed to get a new baby today, but it didn't work out. Without trying to sound prejudice I have to say that when we get babies who are of Indian descent it doesn't work! They truly spoil the children, and do everything for them, and we just aren't capable of providing that type of one on one care that they want.
This mom came in disappointed because we don't serve all fresh foods. I said unfortunately that just isn't pratical...we can't store it properly, we don't have time to prep it, cook it, and it's expensive, and we'd have to pass that expense on to parents. Then she was upset because this 15 month old baby still can't hold it's own bottle (never mind that it shouldn't be on a bottle at 15 months!) and I refused to let them lay him down and prop the bottle...against licensing rules! Then she was upset because we weren't giving him total attention...they were changing other babies!
She called dad, and I said I just don't think we're the facility for you. We can't provide the type of care you want. Another complaint she had was that our video system is down, and we need to fix it, and I couldn't give her a date when it would be fixed. We're trying to figure out what's wrong with it...and I'm not a tech, so how do I know how long that process is! So to make a long story short...I told dad that I really felt the only type of care that would satisfy mom is a nanny, and good luck in finding a day care that would meet her standards!
I went to BN and read for a bit. Then I went to the floor store and paid the deposit for the ceramic tile. I also picked up a few more samples because I don't know that Mike liked the piece I liked. The lady at the store is really nice and I like her. I think she was a bit concerned that I would want to get this done quickly, but actually I want to wait just a bit. I don't want to do it when we have Elijah, and I need to get the rooms painted (which I also don't want to do while we have Elijah) and then they can lay the tile. So it will be at least a month before I lay the tile.
When I brought home the new pieces and was showing Brian he said I'm not laying this! I said no...I'm paying someone to lay it. He might never lay another floor in his life! Well, actually he'll lay one more because he'll be laying the floor in his room one day soon!
Well, I better go get dinner started. Brian is off to get a new Microsoft point card so he can play online games, and then to get Elijah. I need to have dinner for him! Lucky me!
Hope everyone has had a great Monday!
Oh here's a link to the segment of Buy The Book for today.

Good Afternoon to All,
This month seems to be flying by. Of course when I am house sitting there is never enough time as I go back & forth between the two places. I come home everyday to pick up mail, email, check for phone messages & just keep some kind of handle on my life!! Healdsburg is a small town so it is easy to come over here. The picture above is another from Sedona. The rock formations are fascinating to me. Hope you are not all bored! Cady, how wonderful that you got to visit that part of the country. I'm sorry to say I only saw Flagstaff from the freeway so saw nothing!! Maybe a day will come when I can go back to do more exploring of the area of Sedona & Flagstaff. On one of the blogs I checked this morning someone mentioned they had driven to the Grand Canyon to watch the eclipse yesterday. I didn't have to proper glasses so only watched the change in the daylight. I saw some great pictures on the news also in the paper today.
There is really nothing new going on for me. The couple I am house sitting for called me from Cologne, Germany last night. They were staying at a Rectory with the friend of a friend who is a priest. I hope that made sense. They said they really liked Amsterdam except for the bicycle traffic. Amsterdam was the first stop the their trip. She said there are so many bicycles that it is dangerous for the pedestrians. They will not be home until a week from tomorrow.
Sandi, it sounds like you had a very busy Sunday. When will Elijah be back? I need to be weeding out a bunch of stuff from my closets etc. Mostly it is all stuff I did not get sorted out when I moved. It needs to be done & I am capable of putting it off forever!!!
Cady, your weekend sounds busy but good. Brrr, I cannot swim in a cold pool unless it is a really hot, hot day! I'm not a swimmer anyway! I paddle around a bit, float a bit!! I'm much better at poolside.
Chores are calling so I must go. As I said earlier, not much new at my place! Here is another picture from Sedona. This particular formation fascinated me as it dominates the view from Sedona. I was trying to get the right shot in the right light!!
DWTS final is on tonight! I always hate seeing it end. The next one should be interesting as they are having former contestants back. Or anyway I think that is what the host said. I'll find out more.
Happy reading,
Donna M
Monday
Wow - Sandi for not feeling too motivated, it sounds like you did a bunch, laundry, shopping and organizing. I just redid my pantry and am loving how easy it is right now, of course the key is to keep it organized - always a challenge for me.
Donna - We went to Sedona years ago - Mike and I weren't even engaged yet. I remember the town being very pretty - our issue was it was cold. It was March and we were heading up to Flagstaff and we stopped there for lunch. We shopped a bit, but then headed out to Flagstaff - a fun city and then on to the Grand Canyon.
Mary - I have never tried Vietnamese, but have heard great things about their sandwiches - Bang Anh or something. Would like to try one, but there is not one either near work or home. Maybe another time. I hope you had a nice day with Karen yesterday.
Trudy - Glad to hear about your AC being back on. It was a hot one here and we debated turning ours on, but knowing that it is back in the 60s today had us holding out.
Busy weekend. Mags had her sleepover on Friday, it went well, but one girl showed up very early, so I didn't have time to take care of anything before she came by. Then since it was so hot, we went to a friend's who has a pool. The kids had a great time, but I think Mags came home with a cold as she has been coughing ever since. The pool was very cold (I wouldn't get in) and she swam a lot. Then yesterday, we had a neighborhood get-together and I am on the committee so getting ready in the morning and then helping host it (unfortunately, it was at the park and it was very warm.) Then Mags had baseball practice, we ate dinner and it was time for bed. Didn't do any reading other than magazines, but the kids and I watched the first two of the new Star Wars trilogy, none of us had seen them so that was fun. Annoyingly, we were planning on watching the third one on Sunday night, but they changed the times - but were still the same on our guide, so we turned it on an hour into it. Luckily, I found it on Amazon - only $4, so we are getting it shipped to us. Had hoped to start The Kingdom today over lunch, but left my book in the house, so hopefully tonight.
Hope everyone has a great Monday.

Sunday
Trudy, I'm glad to hear that for the moment you have AC. Hopefully it won't be as bad as everyone is thinking, and will be a quick fix! I wonder why you can't bookmark our site with your laptop. That's an unusual thing I think...but then again what do I know!
Yeseterday I finished listening to Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. It was a pretty exciting book. I think more so than the others, but then again I had read the others a long time ago, so maybe I didn't listen as carefully as I might have.
I was also something of a bum yesterday, and took a nap. I think it's crazy that at my age I'm still cycling, but I am. Last month wasn't a long one, so I'm making up for it this month! That had me really tired, and feeling yuch. Even though I had a bunch of junk to do I took a much needed nap. I did manage to get the laundry all folded and what wasn't washed washed, and folded. I almost took a picture of it heaped on the bed as we were all talking about how we use our beds to fold it, but didn't
Late last night I did put a few DVD's into different DVD holders that we have. It's a small attempt to organize...a very small attempt! LOL!!! Then I decided to read my review book for a bit, and went to bed!
This morning I got up, and went to coffee and donuts. From there I went to the grocery store, and bought some new things for Elijah. Richard said he needed clothes, and so I bought! Richard claimed he would get him some things, but I know he probably needs them now, so I bought, and Richard can pay me when he can. Attempting to put those groceries away led to rearranging the two pantries. We have one that's built in, and one that's freestanding. It also meant that some things got thrown away which I haven't quite deicded is good or bad!
While I was still working on that Mike and Brian took a load of junk that came out of our closet (and which Mike can't bear to part with) to storage. When they came home we ended up going out for lunch as Mike hadn't eaten, and with his diabetes that wasn't good! I then went to the dollar store, and bought a bunch of stuff for work, and headed off to Target. Bought what I needed/wanted there, and came home and have been totally unproductive since!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
