Sunday night

Hi Ladies!

Trudy -- Will keep you in my thoughts.  That's a lot of family history there.  Hoping none of it passes your way.

Sandi -- How did your first week of sales go?  Lucky you on going to RT!  Bet that will be fun.  No, we don't always buy newer books.  Everyone in the group has a kindle/nook, so a little cheaper when they are new.  We also pick book subjects - some we might normally read and most which we wouldn't.  To expand our horizons, so to speak.

Mary --- This weather just make up its mind!  Beautiful this weekend and rainy and colder the next few days - booooo.  Phillies seem to have found their hitting game this weekend - always good to see:)  Hope it will continue.

Margie --- Glad to see you here.  Def understand about being busy.

DonnaM --- Love the pics, as always.  Would have loved to go on that hike with you!  One of these days . . . .

Ok, so on my book club book - 11/22/63 is a Stephen King but not horror (that will be next months pick).  This one revolves around JFK's assassination.  The storyline is a guy finds a portal back to 1958 and thinks he can change history, except he gets cancer and can't make it to the date.  So he recruits someone he knows (who is much younger) to go in his place.  When you go thru the portal, it is always Sept 1958, like groundhog day.  And if you come back to 2011, you have only ever been gone 2 minutes, no matter how long you stay there.  Only 120 pages in, so a long way to go.  So far I like it.  I just need some more time carved out to read - lol.

Can't believe its Monday already.  Work is just being piled on, but at least I can work a little overtime.  Not enough to catch up, but some is better than none.  I had this nasty cold last week, and everything seemed to go wrong there, so hoping this week is better.  We shall see.  Hope everyone has a good week:)

Amanda
Trudy, I am sending good thoughts to you.  Hope everything is good and you're all healthy.

Mary, have you gotten anywhere with your dental issues?  Brian has cavities and he has to get them worked on this week.  Thankfully he can take himself and use my medical debit card to pay for them, so I don't have to even be there!

I'm waiting for my laundry to finish drying so I can finish packing my suitcase.  I'm impressed with how I got everything into the smallest suitcase I have..of course the undies are what is drying and aren't in there yet.  Watch those put me into the next size suitcase!  LOL!!!!

I'm going to go check the laundry.  Hope everyone is doing great!

Friday afternoon

Well, I hope everyone's week went well.  It's finally hot enough here for the a/c unfortunately.  Most of the snowbirds have left and peace reigns in the valley!  LOL! I love it here in the summer b/c it's laid-back and quiet. Yes, it can get hotter than blue blazes and so humid you can't breathe but life is slow and easy!

I had to take a break from historicals; they were messing with my mind!  So I've read a bunch of Presents and Desires; not that heroines falling in love with alpha millionaires who have an agenda is much better! ;)

This illness I had is much more than an UTI.  The tests my primary sent out to the lab came back showing bacteria and staff.  I said that I wanted to go see my urologist which I did yesterday.  He said that he wanted to scope my bladder as it was either my bladder or my kidneys.  If there was a polyp in my bladder, it would be easy to treat he said.  Then he did it in his office and, Praise the Lord my bladder is clean!!!!  However, when he was done, he told me that he had been SURE that I had had bladder cancer.  I said, "Really?  You're good.  You have a poker face. I had no idea."  He repeated the statement and walked out the door.  So Mon, I go for a CT scan w/contrast to check out my kidneys like the one I had last summer which was clear.  I was at the chiropractor today and he had a substitute there; she's really good.  She did a through exam when I told my story and she said that she didn't think there was anything wrong.  I'm much relieved.  However, my maternal grandmother died of cancer which started in her kidneys and spread throughout; Mother had pancreatic cancer and my other grandmother had leukemia.  I'm not scared but I do feel weird.  I emailed my family with the subject line of "I passed a blood clot" and I've heard from both of my sons which really makes my feel good; I haven't heard anything from my sisters.  You don't just pass a blood clot for nothing!

Donna~~My sympathy!  I used to live in a rowhouse in a subdividsion in a valley where the floor drains backed up all the time in heavy rains!  Water used to come in through the cinder block walls too.  I know what you're dealing with; it isn't fun.  I lived there when Hurricane Agnes went through PA; unfortunately, I was in a tent at Cape Hatteras in the middle of it and luckily had good neighbors who at least opened the doors so that mold didn't build up!  I never want to go through something like that again!

Sandi~~Someday I want to see the bluebonnets!  I've heard that they are gorgeous!  Good luck with whatever you're facing.  Congrats on going to RT!  Lucky dog, you!

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Sunday evening

Hi everyone! It has been a while since I've posted. I have been reading posts but just not posting. I am glad everyone has checked in since I've posted. I believe I posted before Easter. We had a great day with the family all at Karen's house. Lauren loved her skirt I made for her. Both she and Jacob were thrilled with their stuff from the Easter bunny. My dental saga is on-going. I was supposed to get the permanent bridge on last week but it had not arrived yet at the office. I am now set for Wed. I am really hoping all goes well. Once that is finished I have two other teeth that need worked on but I will worry about them when the time comes.

I have been doing a lot of reading since I last posted. I read Hotshot by Catherine Mann and it was good. Not as good as some of her others. I read Whisper No Lies by Cindy Gerard, another of her Black Ops series and enjoyed it. I read an older Donna Alward book, A Soldier's Homecoming. I enjoy her books and this one was good but not one of her best. Ride the Fire by Pamela Clare was very good. This is a historical romance set in 1763 in western Pa. I have read some of her contemporaries but had never read one of her historicals. I read India Black by Carol K. Carr. It is the first in her historical spy series set in Victorian England and the heroine runs a brothel. It was pretty good and I will continue reading this series. It had a lot of humor. She works with a very handsome spy named French and there is some chemistry but only time will tell is anything happens between them. And finally I just finished reading Jodi Picoult's new novel called The Storyteller. It is very good but somewhat disturbing with all the details of the Holocaust. I will probably read Nora's new one next.

I have also watched a lot of movies lately. The best of them was Argo which I would highly recommend. Life of Pi was good--the images are great and the special effects. Anna Karenina was not so great but Keira Knightly is good in it as is Jude Law. Zero Dark Thirty has great acting but is very violent. Don and I also watched the first and second season of Game of Thrones which is on HBO but we watched it for free. It is excellent.

Sandi--I will keep Brian and your family in my thoughts and prayers. That is cool that you get to go to RT. The whole question of Misty's son's paternity is important because in some states if the mother is married her husband is the legal father even if he is not the biological father. I have a friend whose son is in a similar situation.

Cady--a very belated happy birthday to you! I hope you had a great day. Good to see you here.

Trudy--I hope you are feeling better and that is great that you got your washer paid for finally.

Donna M--as always your pictures are great to look at. Don and I have seen the first two seasons of Homeland and really enjoy it.

Amanda--do you think spring will come back and stay? It feels like winter again right now. The Phils are up and down aren't they?

Donna H--what a pain having to clean up water from your basement. We have had some off and on over the years but have never been flooded. Is your ankle doing better? How are your son and dil doing?

Margie--hope all is well and you can get back here soon.

As I am sure everyone is, we were relieved that things turned out as they did in Boston. Thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.

I hope I haven't missed anyone. Have a good week everyone. I promise to come back soon. :-)

Mary

Sunday

Ok..it's only taken 3 tries to get the title of this post right!  I had too many capital letters a couple of times, and then misspelled Sunday!

Trudy, congrats on getting the washer paid for.  Have you received it yet?  When I got my new one a couple of years ago I paid for it with money from Mom.  Hopefully she's happy with the fact I spent the money to get something to make life a bit easier!  The good thing about going to the laundromat is that you can get a ton of laundry done in about 90 minutes or so rather than it being an ongoing chore for an entire day!

Donna, sorry to hear about the flooding!  Only one time have I lived in an area that we had a flood in the basement.  Fortunately it was before Mike and I married, and only his possessions were down there.  LOL!!!  Now we live on a hill, and the people who live across from us live in something of a valley, and I do often wonder if they have flooding issues, but it's not something that I've ever had the opportunity to discuss with any of the neighbors.

Donna, you should try taking pictures of the ducks swimming.  You just never know what you might get.  I would have liked to take some pictures of our bluebonnets, but it's not been that great a season, and then we did have some rain fortunately, but it's made the weeds come out and almost choke the bluebonnets!

I accidentally read the third Julie Ann Walker book first, but haven't yet gone back and read the other two.  I have them, and I will eventually get them read I'm sure!

Amanda,  again you're such a good person to be reading all the various books your bookclub reads, because I don't do that!  I don't read horror either.  Again, I can't believe your book club always chooses expensive books!  That's one of the big things about our book club...we try to chose paperback books, and if we have to add something more expensive in it's usually just a trade size book, can't recall the last hardcover we did!

Fresh Fiction is going to RT and I'm getting to go!  I'm really excited about it!  Julie Garwood and Jude Deveraux will both be there, and if I can meet them that will be totally amazing!   If I kept books two of my keeper books would be books from Jude Devereaux.  Sweet Liar and Summerhouse.

I'm not ready to spill all the details, but Brian could use good thoughts and prayers as he is getting ready to face a huge challenge.   It's one that's going to be hard on all of us, but hardest on him.

Today I'm trying to find my inner goddess.  So far she has managed to buy groceries, clean both bathrooms, including mopping the floors on my hands and knees, and changed the sheets on the bed.  I have done almost two full loads of laundry, and another washing.

I'm reading Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts, and working a bunch!  This next week I'm going to make my first sales call.  I hope it goes well!

Have a great day!

Sandi

Thursday Night

If you want to copy my photo and print it, you can; I think it's beautiful and restful myself.

I'm really sick, not sure what the problem is exactly.  It started out with diarrhea and ended with some sort of ITU.  When I went to the dr. on Wed, there was a lot of blood and white cells in my urine, plus I had a sore throat and swollen glands.  She put me on Bactrim and I've been pretty much knocked out since.  She also took a strep test and sent further tests out to the lab and I'm waiting for the results now.  I hope I feel better soon b/c Sat, I have a full day! :)

I just finished Sandra Browns' Demon Rumm.  It's one of her older books; I din't really care for it that much, although it's famous.  I rec'd Mia Marlowe's newest,  One Night with a Rake, and Heather Snow's Sweet Deception in the mail so I'll be busy for awhile!

Going now...

Trudy

Thursday, 4/18/2013...

Hello Everyone,

Why are we all so crazy busy?!!  Is it Spring or is it we are just to busy?  Enough of that.  Great to see each of you here.  The picture above is from a walk/hike I took last week on Healdsburg Ridge.  A favorite place to go as it is so close to home.  I've been wanting to get up there & just haven't!  Right now it is lush & green, wildflowers blooming, just heavenly.  I was in need of a dose of nature away from traffic, people & hustle & bustle.  It helped a lot.  Had a great walk, went up hills, down hills, & did quite a bit of walking, also took a ton of pictures.  I only saw 4 other people the whole time.  It was wonderful.  I also found an unexpected surprise, a pond that I don't recall ever seeing.  There were two ducks swimming around.  I did get some pictures but they are not very good because the ducks were never still!!!  I also lack the equipment or expertise to know how to photograph something like that.

Donna H, so sorry to hear you keep finding water in your basement.  That would get tiresome.  I hope you don't develop any mold problems from all that.  How is your ankle doing?  Should you see a doctor?  I'm the person that mentioned reading Julie Ann Walker some time ago on the blog.  I've read books 1 & 2.  Now I am waiting for #3 to come in at the library.  I don't know if #4 is out yet, if not it will be coming out.    Do you do the old fashion type of quilting by hand or the more modern way on a sewing machine?  I have an old family quilt that I am sorry to say I am not sure who made it but I think my great grandmother.  You can see the hand stitching & I remember mom saying she could remember some of the fabric used as they were from dresses she wore or her mother.

Trudy, that is a gorgeous picture.  Beautiful sunset.  So nice to see someone else posting pictures.  Yea, on getting your washing machine paid for.  Even after all these years of living with a laundry room rather than my own machines I miss that a lot.  At least since not having my own washer & dryer I've lived in places that have a laundry room so I did not have to go to the laundromat.  Not something I like doing!!

Cady, so nice you got to stop by here.  Sorry things are so hectic for you now.  Hopefully it will change soon.

Amanda, Stephen Kings book is over 800 pages!  Wow!  I couldn't do that as I don't care for his writing!!  Just my opinion.  Isn't he considered horror?  Ugh!  Your book club must have very eclectic taste if they are choosing to read horror.  For now I will stick with my romance, romantic suspense & non fiction.  Let us know if you manage to read all of the Stephen King.  I hope your daughter enjoys the field trip to Cape May.  Has your weather improved?  We have been having good weather since February so it is hard to believe how nasty it has been in some areas.

Sandi, I loved the Catherine Anderson book.  It was some really funny situations in it due to the time travel.  Imagine a woman from the 1500's confronted with today's modern appliances & technology, flush toilets, etc.  I don't want to say to much because it was wonderful discovering those incidents in the book.  If you read it I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  Her work is a favorite of mine.  I've never heard of the paper you mentioned that Misty, Richard & her new man signed.  I think I'd have it notarized just to be safe, but that is just me.  Each state is so different in the laws.  I was also wondering where you are going with Fresh Fiction.  Enjoy!  Share with us after the trip.  Mary Poppins on stage sounds wonderful.  Wicked was in San Francisco but I did not get to see it.  The tickets are usually out of my price range.

The bombing in Boston was horrible.  An 11 year old boy down in the bay area was one of the wounded.  He has already had two operations on his leg.  Both his parents are teaches so are not working, having an extended stay in Boston due to his hospitalization which of course is a financial strain.  The town they live in is having several fund raisers to help the family.  The father is a coach at a high school.  The interviews I have seen with people that know them say they are an active, really nice family that spend a lot of time together.  The mom was a runner in the marathon.  I do hope they catch the guilty party very soon.  Then last night that fertilizer plant exploded in Texas.  Oh my!  What a horrible thing for that town.  When things like this happen it is wonderful to see how people here in the states step in & help each other.  It should be like that all the time not just during a tragedy.  Today is the anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.  There was an unidentified package near the site where they meet each year to commemorate the anniversary so everyone had to be moved back.  They still had the ceremony just not where they usually do.  The package turned out to be clothing.  Everyone is on high alert because who knows what might be in something.  That is just to sad.

On to happier things.  Since I was last here I finished the Catherine Anderson book, Perfect Timing.  A wonderful read, had trouble putting it down.  I also read a Blaze that has been on my TBR shelf a long time, Rub It In by Kira Sinclair, good, quick, easy read.  I also read In Rides Trouble by Julie Ann Walker.  As Donna H said, good stories but the language is a bit rough which is not surprising with all the ex-military characters.

Well, I have babbled on enough for now.  Here is a picture to enjoy until next time.  The California Poppies & the Lupine are in full bloom now.  This is along a path here in Healdsburg that runs along some old railroad tracks.  It was just gorgeous with all these in bloom when I walked there.  Glad I did while it was so lush & pretty.

Bye for now.  Happy reading & take care to all,
Donna M
Hi Ladies!

Busy and internet/computer issues but I'm still around! At work right now so no time to read or post anything long but I hope to have my internet up tonight to catch up.

Tuesday night

Hi Ladies!

Been busy over here, especially with work and had stuff going on almost every day for the last two weeks.  Happy for the slow down (at home anyway) this week.

So sad about the bombing yesterday.  I wish I understood people.  Really, if you don't like it here, there are other places to live.  Why punish the innocent that didn't do anything to you?  I think the medical staff on hand, and anyone else who helped out, did a phenomenal job.

Cady --- Belated Happy B'day!  Glad to see you pop in.  Hope you are here more once the craziness settles down.

Sandi --- Where are you going with Fresh Fiction?  Glad work seems to be going well.  I had never heard of the paternity paper they signed either.  Surprised it doesn't have to be notarized.  Learn something new every day I guess.  And yes, when the nurse came back, we used a combo of drinking a ton of water, heating up my arm and the blood pressure cuff.  Worked like a charm!  Guess I know what to tell people when they need to get blood from me - lol.

DonnaM --- Great pics - I love flowers.  Aurora will be taking a class trip next month to these gardens in Cape May.  Will be waiting to see what kind of pictures she comes home with (but not with my camera).  Sorry about the mold in the bathroom.  I can see that happening with the enclosed deal, even though I don't remember that problem when we lived in any of the apartments.  Probably just to long since I was there.

DonnaH ---  Sorry about all that water.  Totally sucky.  How did your dil's surgery go?  Scary your son was allergic to the packing.  Who would ever think of that?  Are you sure you don't have a mild sprain to your ankle?  Would explain the swelling.  I was a month when I sprained mine last year before the swelling finally went away totally.  I would be like you friend if there was a fire - as long as everyone is out, I would mourn the loss of pictures and a few other irreplaceable things.  Everything else is replaceable.   I have been trying to remember to make an extra disc copy of pictures and giving them to my mom, just in case of such an event.  She also had given me all the family albums, but I gave most back, just so everything wasn't in one place.

Trudy --- Nice pic - I could use that in my office:)   Glad you had Easter with Sharon's friend.  Hope this will be a continuing relationship for you.  I will take your "low" high any day.  We finally are warm for more than two days this week.  Two weeks ago we had a "high" in the low forties with a wind chill factor - ugh.  Had some cooler days last week too.  I am just so over the cold and want spring to stay.  And I would like to see more flowers and trees with leaves.

Mary --- What are thinking of our weather?  And the Phils are starting kinda up and down.  Cliff Lee was the only one winning until a few days ago.  Still in a rain delay tonight, so the jury is out at this time for today.  How are the grandkiddies doing?

I haven't been reading.  Finished the book club book on Tuesday last week (bc was Wed).  It was Low Pressure by Sandra Brown.  I liked it, others just thought it was ok and drug a bit.  I didn't think so.  Been busy, so no other reading.  I did learn thought that if a book is recommended, I need to find out how many pages are in it before putting it in the pot for book club.  Stephen King's 11/22/63 was the rec and got picked for next month's mtg.  I didn't know it was 825 pages - ugh!!!  That's like forever to me.  I need to be starting it, because if  I am lucky, I will have it finished by the time we meet again.  Next months pick is going to be horror - not a fav deal for me.  Anyone have a title that might fall in this category that you really liked?

Ok, off to bed.  Going out to dinner with my gf Jackie after work tomorrow (for her b'day - it was last week).  It will be good to catch up.  We ended up changing book club night too, so she will be able to join the club - yeah!  Amelia and David will both be home tomorrow, so are going to the zoo with my niece and nephew.  Hopefully they will take a few good pics to post.

Have a great week!

Amanda

Tuesday night

It's awful what's happened in Boston but we live in a sick, sick world!  Let us not jump to the conclusion that whoever did this is Muslim though because we don't know at this point.  Not all terrorists are Muslim!  The person(s) behind this is/are definitely terrorists but could be of any kind.  The type of bomb that was used is used by many different bad guys and the plans are available online, unfortunately.  Tread lightly until we know clearly or we could make things worse.

I've read quite a few books lately:  Maya Banks' Highlander Most Wanted, Stepping Out of the Shadows by Robyn Donald, The Beauty Within by Marguerite Kaye, and Better Than Chocolate by Shelia Roberts.  I'm also reading a book on Epilepsy which is interesting; guess who has/had this dreadful disorder: Julius Ceasar, Bud Abbot, Alexander the Great, Beethoven, Bonaparte, Michelangelo, Richard Burton, Lord Byron, Lewis Carroll, Agatha Christie, Danny Glover, Van Gogh, Handel, MLK, Moliere, Elton John, Edgar Allen Poe, Billy Idol, Pascal, Tennyson, Tolstoy, Neil Young and, my neurologist told me, Elanor Roosevelt!

A few weeks ago we set a record low high; today we set a record high of 92!  Unbelievable!  This has been crazy weather this year.

My father has been gone for six years now; however, he had an insurance policy that none of us knew about.  Two weeks ago, my sisters and I received letters from them and we sent in the paperwork. Yesterday I received my check; it was very small but I was able to finish paying off the washing machine I've buying.  On Thursday I'll finally get my new washing machine!  YES!!  I've only been going to the laundromat since Thanksgiving.  My laundry basket broke so the timing is great.

I did go back several loops and I didn't find a double of my last post.  If it's there, it doesn't show up on my screen.

I took this last week at Crystal Beach.  Beautiful, isn't it? That's the Gulf of Mexico; don't know the name of the island.  I was taking pictures for a contest that Ryan Kelly of CT is running and took this one to send to him as a bonus b/c CT didn't come to FL for the March promos; I want to make sure they know what they're missing, LOL!

Have a good week and try to stay calm until we know what's what!

Trudy

Hi Sandi

It's good to see you back!

I'm the one who asked if Richard was Ethan's father.  I must have missed the turn of events where she had a new boyfriend.  I knew they were apart, but I guess I thought it was something like friends with benefits.  I've never heard of a "denial of paternity" before.  Guess I'm too far behind the times. . .

No soft water yet -- just the basement to dry out -- again!  But at least I can be thankful that every time our basement has gotten wet, it's been clean water from something of ours leaking, rather than coming in from outside, or -- ugg! -- coming up from the drain.

So sorry to hear of your friend's passing.  I guess that would give one a start to see his truck drive up.

That was me reading the Julie Ann Walker.  I read In Rides Trouble first, and Hell on Wheels second, instead of the other way around.  That's the way they came into the library and I didn't want to wait as I didn't know how long before the other one came.  I am really enjoying them -- not the language so much, but I can get past that.  I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for book #4.  {:-)

We have to babysit again tomorrow, so I'd better get to bed.  I need to put my foot up, too.  For some strange reason my ankle is still swelling.  Thank goodness it doesn't hurt any more!

What a shock to hear of the bombings in Boston today!  Even though there were fewer people dead and injured, it was still just about as shocking as 9/11.  I just can't fathom stuff like that happening right at my own front door.  It doesn't seem possible.  Someone explained it to me yesterday, and finally it started to make sense -- as much as something like that can make sense. . .  Muslims believe that their savior won't come back to earth to get them unless the earth is in total chaos.  So that's why they don't want peace.  Also, suicide bombers (for example) are taught that if they give their lives up for the greater good of their cause, then they will go to heaven where many virgins will be waiting there just for them to have sex with and to do their every bidding. . .  At least that's what this person told us.

Must go, I'm falling asleep sitting here.  {;-zzz  hmmm, that looks more like a beard than someone sleeping. . .

Sunday, April 14, 2013

It's been so long since I've been here!  I bet you all thought I disappeared never to return!

Can't recall if I said whether or not everyone is in agreement that Richard is not the father of Ethan, Misty's new baby.  They  (Richard, Misty, and the boyfriend, Jerry) all signed a denial of paternity which states that Richard is not the father, and that Jerry is.  It's funny to me that it didn't have to be notarized or anything, but they consider it legal.

Donna, did you ever get the soft water fixed?  I totally understand about having to buy various fundraisers.  Luckily for me the kids are far enough apart that I didn't have to buy the same stuff at the same time.  Then they even went to different schools, and they did totally different fundraisers.

Donna, does Spring/Summer make for a busier or slower pet sitting time?  I'm going away hopefully in a couple of weeks, but since I'm going by myself with the Fresh Fiction team I don't have to worry about a pet sitter...I  have a house full of them!

Amanda, have they moved the mobil home that burned?  It's got to be so sad to pass by there and know what happened and who is no longer there.  A couple of weeks ago one of my coffee and donut friends passed away very suddenly.  The Saturday after he died (which was a Monday) a big truck just like his pulled in, and we all had a moment of look...here comes Charlie before we realized it just couldn't be.  Had another moment like that yesterday, and it did turn out to be his truck this time, but of course his wife was driving it.  She was taking it to get it cleaned up.  Not sure, but think she's going to start driving it, as I hear their daughter's car is rather dead, and so I think Pat might be giving her her car, and she'll drive the truck.

Mary I'm glad you liked Rebellion.  I did too.  Yes, it's historical, but it somewhat ties into I think her MacGregor series.  I don't read many historicals, but once in awhile I do, and have to say I enjoy them when I do.

Donna, interesting theory on the bathroom and the mold.  My bathrooms don't have windows either, and I like that!   I wonder which author was signing in Dallas.  I do attend several of them, but have gotten to the point where I don't attend as many as I used to...just not enough time!  I used to buy the book to be supportive, but now I only buy the book if I would read the author.  Your pictures continue to be awesome!  You are really talented.  Do you print any of them and frame them for your house?  Did you read that Catherine Anderson yet?  I've heard mixed things about it.  I'm really behind on that series.  Did you enjoy the Julie Ann Walker book?  That was her first and the fourth in the series is about to come out.

Trudy, that was great that you and Sharon's friend went out together.  I hope you can become friends.  I think it would be good for both of you.  I've heard a lot of good things about Logans, but we don't have one close to us.  I would love to try it sometime!  I got the Sheila Roberts book, but have a few I'm reading, and need to get done so it's going to have to wait!  I've read other things by her and have enjoyed them.

Donna, we went to see Mary Poppins on stage.  It was totally amazing!  I wanted to see Wicked, but couldn't get tickets for even two of us to sit together, so decided against it.  I should check again just in case they've released more tickets!  Yes, I read the Carr book a long time ago.  I'm anxiously awaiting the next one in that series.

Cady it's great to see you!  Did you go to Florida for spring break?  Did the entire family get to go?  Do the kids have summer plans?  Are they already starting to count down the days until school lets out?

Trudy, sorry to hear about the flooding in the basement.  Hopefully it won't happen again any time soon!  I was lucky and in the times that we had a basement we only had a flooding problem once, and that was when Mike lived there, and I hadn't moved in yet!  How fun to be learning to make jewelry.  I hope to learn to crochet.  We'll see how it goes!  Glad your son is feeling better!

Recruiting season is over.  Now to try to get some of the people who I met into the office and through the hiring process.  Last week I managed to get 6 people out into the world of work!  I hope they like it and do well.  I made some interesting contacts and also need to follow through on them.  I'm going to hit three local colleges next week that I wasn't able to hit because their job fairs conflicted with other job fairs in which I was already scheduled.

I've done some reading, but not much.  I finished a book by Molly O'Keefe which I enjoyed, but which the title keeps escaping me!   I read Fool For Love by Beth Ciotta.  Enjoyed that one too.  I'm listeing to the Rizzoli and Isles series by Tess Gerritsen.  I'm on the third book now.  They're fairly intense and I think I'll take a break before moving on.  I've listened to the first two books in the 50 Shades series, and I finally have the third audio from the library, so maybe I'll really switch it up and listen to that!

Right now I'm reading a book in ebook called Carolina Girl.  It's by Virginia Kantra and will be released soon in both e and print I'm sure.  I'm reading in print Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts, and listening to the sinner by Gerritsen.

Hope everyone is doing well!  Talk to you soon I hope!

Um, Trudy,

If you look on the page that comes up after you publish a post, there is one from you that is marked as a Draft.  It's labelled "Happy Easter" or something like that.  Might that be the post of yours that's missing?

This and That {:-)

Cady, all of us seem to be having that problem lately -- crazy busy. . .  at least I sure have.  At least you still had enough time to read.  {:-)

Donna M, love your flower pictures, especially that one of the little blue flowers growing over the curb.  And the winery garden one.  {:-)  Okay, I now understand about your mold problem.  That kind probably isn't as urgent as it could be if it were underneath your sink or something, but yeah, you'd probably feel more comfortable if maintenance came and had a go at it.

We're busy sucking up water in our basement -- again!  First it's our hot water tank leaking.  We get that fixed, get everything dried up, and 3 months later the floor is wet again.  Our softener is overflowing and won't stop running.  Bypass that, get the floor dried out again.  Three months later we decide to call the softener guy to come see if he can fix it.  Nope, he can't, we need a new one.  Okay, can't afford it right now, so we bypass the softener, but leave it hooked up.  Three weeks later I go down the basement for something and step in water -- again!  The bypass for the softener is leaking.  Our dbil, Dan, luckily is a plumber.  He came, disconnected the softener and permanently bypassed it -- until we can afford a new softener.  We've got a 5-gal. shopvac and we sucked it full 2 1/2 times.  Our daughter is bringing her dehumidifier back for us to use to get all the moisture out of everything.

Trudy, I'm glad you can get together with a friend of Sharon's to talk.  It's always good when you can share memories with a friend.

I hear you on the low temperatures!  We've had 2 days so far where it's gone above freezing.  We've still got 6' snowbanks in our driveway.  According to the forecasts, we're more than a month behind where the normal lows and highs should be by now.  Last year on March 31 we had a wiener roast in our back yard for Hardy's birthday.  This year our 2' high fire pit is still under 1' of snow.

I got the same book as you from Tellharlequin.  Something about chocolate.  Haven't read it yet.  I want to finish the series I'm on first.

Mary, I'm still sewing on the quilt my daughter is making for her niece. . .  {:-O  We need to get it done already because I have another one to finish before the end of May.  Luckily that one is a baby one, so it's a lot smaller.

Amanda, yikes!  You're very lucky that wasn't your trailer that burned.  They are very lucky as many of them got out as did.  We have friends who's trailer burned a few years ago.  He had just left for work, and she was about to go back to bed when she realized she smelled smoke.  All she had time for was to put her slippers back on and grab her two little boys and get out.  What she mourned losing the most was all her wedding pictures and the boys' birth books.

Sandi, I'd love to get a new sink faucet, too.  Hardy keeps looking at those commercials for the taps where you touch them on and off.  Maybe a new tap is on the horizon. . . {:-)

I went over on my ankle last Sunday, going down some steps.  Sat down real hard on the top step!  I didn't think I'd done anything, but within the hour my ankle was very swollen and purple all the way from my heel to my toes.  Had it bandaged for 4 days, and then thought it was better -- most of the bruising was gone -- so yesterday we went to "Spring Expo".  Walked around on it for about 3 hours.  Last night it was all swollen, and now I see that it's all swollen, again.  Gotta go put the tensor back on. . .  K, I'm back.

I've got Robyn Carr's "The Wanderer" coming.  It will probably be here Monday -- I hope!  I've started reading a trilogy by Julie Ann Walker, a ntm author, "Hell On Wheels", "In Rides Trouble", and "Rev It Up".  I'm not even sure where I heard these mentioned.  They're about a Special Ops group who use a Motorcycle Shop as a front.  The story lines are great and I like her style of writing, but the language is horrible.  I finished the "-Stiff" series by Annelise Ryan.  Also found out that's a pseudonym for Beth Amos, so now have some of her books reserved at the library.

Our son had a wisdom tooth pulled a little over a week ago.  By Sun he was so swollen, even his eyelid was puffy.  He phoned the dentist who told him to come in the next day.  When the dentist looked at him last Mon, he realized that he'd had a reaction to the packing that had been used.  He cleaned everything out, put a different kind of packing in, and sent him home with antibiotics.  We saw him Tues. at noon.  He was still swollen, but not real bad, and by suppertime he was even less swollen.  Thank goodness, too, because today he and his wife flew down to the USA.  She's the one with the back problems and they're going to -- now I can't find where I wrote it down -- Henderson, Nevada, I think.  Her surgery's Mon, and they fly back home next Sat.

My granddaughter, Laura, was in the Music Festival this past week.  She was entered in 6 piano classes, and came home with 3 firsts, and 3 seconds.

I got hooked on making jewellery.  Our pastor's wife makes it, and she's teaching me.  I've only make a ring so far, but I've got all the fixin's to make many more rings, and many pairs of earrings.  I won't bother with necklaces or bracelets because I don't wear them.

Wow, I'd better quit before I run out of space.  Warm spring hugs to everyone.  Apologies if I missed anyone.  I was going back and forth so often I was almost dizzy. {:-D

Late but not never

It has been forever since I posted - no good reason, just crazy busy.  I think I posted last, just before we went to Florida for a long weekend to see my folks.  It was fun - but cold, only on our final day did it warm up enough to wear shorts.  Since then I have been running and running.  Unfortunately, things here won't be easing up until about mid-May, then hopefully I can begin to breathe again.  I have been reading, but truthfully can't remember much - have a nasty sinus thing going, this darn weather seems like it is never going to turn to spring.

I haven't read much either lately, I did start a new series by Ashley Gardner, I have read two in the series - it is about a Captain who returns from the war in France and tries to create a new life.  It is interesting so far.  I have the third book and plan on reading it over the weekend.  I also read the newest Rhys Bowen Molly book, I didn't really like it as I felt she put herself in a lot of unnecessary danger - that is ok normally, but since she was pregnant, seemed wrong.  I hope everyone else is doing well, seems like everyone has been a bit slow in posting.

Will try and get back sooner.

Sunday evening, 4/7/2013...

Good Evening Everyone,

It is late enough that some of you probably are in bed sleeping!  Here on the west coast though it is not quite 10 P.M.  Just almost & will be by the time I finish this.  :-)  The picture above is another one at the winery were I took the pictures of the tulips & the garden.  I love this bright pink Azalea against the bark of the tree.

TV is crappy tonight!  Anyway for my choices!

We have been having some showery, cloudy days & some much needed rai, also some sun..  Not a lot of rain at one time.  Starting Tuesday it is suppose to all clear up & warm up.  I have a busy week ahead of me.

Last week my daughter came up on her day off for awhile.  We had lunch & talked a lot.  She & her son left for Oregon early this morning to visit her dad.  Dustin had some vacation time coming & she just managed to get the days off so they could go.

I actually have been on a reading kick!  Since I was last here I finished reading  Landing It by Scott Hamilton.  Just in case you don't know who he is Scott won an Olympic Gold for his figure skating in 1984.  I am a long time figure skating fan.  It is one of the sports I watch beside 49'er football!  The book is an older one but very interesting.  I also read Robyn Carr's new one The Wanderer the beginning of her new series.  I enjoyed this very much for a couple of reasons, it is set on the Oregon Coast, a fictional town, but still it is the Oregon Coast which I love.  Second, there is some great humor in the book which makes it a most enjoyable read.  The next one was Mary Higgins Clark, Where Are You Now?  Another good mystery by Mary.  It wasn't until very close to the end that I was sure who the culprit was.  I was leaning toward someone else entirely!  Now I am reading a Catherine Anderson new release.  Another author that I love reading.  More about that one when I finish reading the book.

It has been rather quiet here, guess everyone is busy.

Trudy, did you go down to the bottom where you can click on older posts to look for the one you mentioned?  How nice that you and Lee were able to have diner together on Easter.  Have you ever read any of Catherine Anderson's books.  Some of hers are historicals but I think in the 1800's.  I'd have to look on her website.  She writes a lot of connected books.

Sandi, did you read Robyn Carr's book The Wanderer.  For some reason I think you read it quite some time ago to review.  Some times it puzzles me what remains in my mind!!  You mentioned that you had seen Mary Poppins, play or movie?

I've been watching the first season of Homeland on DVD.  Part of me likes it, part of me isn't sure!  I can't make up my mind about it.  Maybe by the time I finish the first season I can make a decision about continuing!

I think this is it for now.  My brain is getting a little mushy!!  I'll wish each of you a good week.  Maybe you will drop by to say Hello & let us know what you are reading.  Here is a picture for you to enjoy.  This is just the prettiest sight!  This is growing over the curb by a house.  You can see it coming down the sidewalk as you are going toward this corner.  It sure brightens up the dull curb & concrete!!

Happy reading, take care,
Donna M

Thursday

I know I posted last week; it's not there! I don't know what happened to it.  I'm sorry but I don't remember what I said either. :(

Cady~Happy Belated Birthday!  I hope you had a good day!

One thing I do remember about the missing post is Nora Roberts.  Rebellion is her only historical and is the prequel to the MacGregor series.  I've also read her MacKade Brothers series and really enjoyed them; it's based in the present but built on the ghosts of the Battle of Antiemn which took place not all that awful far from where I grew up in York, PA.

I just finished Stephanie Laurens' newest Cynster book Then She Fell, Henrettia's story.  At first I really didn't care for it but it did turn out to be a good book in true Lauren style.

Did anyone get a book from HQ to read?  Yesterday I received Sheila Roberts' Better Than Chocolate from them to read and review.  It's not my usual genre but I think I'll enjoy it.  Good thing I just finished the Laurens book.

It finally warmed up here.  Last week we set an all-time record low high of 58 degrees!  By any standard that's cold for Florida.  My electric bill came yesterday and I used on average 12 kwh/day more last month than I did in the same time last year! :(  I'm still using my flannel sheets but probably will put them away this month.

I went out to eat with the best friend of my deceased friend Sharon for Easter.  Lee is so broken up by her passing and neither of us have family here.  We went to Logan's Road House, a chain of steak restaurants on the East coast similar to Cody's.  They have really good steaks.  It was really nice and I could talk to someone about Sharon who understands and so could Lee.

It's raining here today.  There was a tornado watch a little while ago for South Florida.  Worse storms are expected later as a front comes in from the Gulf.  We really need the rain; it's our dry season.

Here's hoping that you all well!

Trudy
