Hello Everyone,
Happy Friday! For those of you still working Friday is a wonderful day! For those of us retired it still means the end of the week as I still enjoy the weekend. I guess the weekend holds a different pace of life even if you are retired.
The picture above o the huge tree stump is at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. It is beautiful there. If you look close you can see my good friend Dusty, that lives in Twain Harte, on top of the stump. Even as small as this picture is you can see how tiny she looks which gives you an idea of how huge that tree was. They had to build steps up to that stump so you could get on it. The trees here are the giant Sequoia which are different than the Redwoods. We had a lovely day there with a good hike. Dusty is one of my friends that live near Yosemite.
Margie if Yosemite is only 3 hours away you really should go. You have to see it to really know what a truly special place it is. If we could get together I'd go with you in a minute. The best time to go is now or wait until October when all the crowds have died down & go during the week. Being retired is so nice because I don't have to go on a weekend. I also have a Senior Park pass so there is no entrance fee. Maybe we should try to plan something. Think about it. :-) I also want to visit Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks. Right now I can't remember how far it is from me but it would to be an overnight visit or two. I'll have to check mileage to you & to Kings Canyon again. Same for Yosemite as it is just to far to do it in one day. You may remember that last year I got to go when the waterfalls were so full & so spectacular. I was so happy to be able to go back so soon after my visit in October of 2010. Seeing the comparison in the waterfalls made it that much better.
That is a huge library that you went to. Where is it? You probably said but I forget. I think you mentioned that it is not in your town.
Amanda, that sounds fun getting to see a NASCAR car up close & eat BBQ. Yum! I love to cook & love to bake. In fact I thought about making brownies awhile ago but I have about 1 tablespoon of flour! I don't want to go to the store so will do without. It isn't like I need them!!! What is that place you mentioned going to? The name started with a K. I never write anything down!!! From our blog! I always think I will remember. Sadly the brain doesn't retain things like it use to!!! That Polar bear out of Lego's was great. When I put Lego's together with the grandkids our skills were not up to that!!
Here is a small portion of one of the trees at Calaveras Big Trees. Something about this one made me try for a picture. I feel lucky to live somewhere that has such beautiful parks & such diverse areas. I'm sure most any area is like that. I'm glad I can help you all do some traveling. I'd like to do much more myself. It is one of those times lack of funds plays a big role.
Our Farmer's Market opens tomorrow! I'm so excited as I will see my favorite vendors & get to buy really fresh veggies. The choices are fewer in the beginning & our weather has been different which means it will be interesting to see what is available. I've been to a couple of Farmer's Markets in other towns so I have a pretty good idea of what is ready.
Enjoy the weekend. I should finish my book I'm reading today or this evening. Once it is done I'll tell you more about the book.
Happy reading,
Donna M
