T.G.I.F. on 10/12/2012

Good Afternoon my Friends,

What happens when you don't take time to visit here?  More posts to read!!

The above picture is a sail boat passing by Treasure Island with just a small bit of the Bay Bridge in the background.  This is from Pier 39 the day I was in San Francisco with my daughter.  It is fun looking back at pictures of places I went, things I did.  At least for me!

Cady, it is to bad that Maggie is having reading problems.  I hope that it is something that can be over come as she does like to read.  Enjoy your long weekend.  Just knowing you have the extra time is so nice.  So far I have not gotten hooked on any games on the computer.  Long ago when I learned to use a mouse, after not using a computer for a couple of years, I played Solitaire as part of my training!  It was fun because I was doing it at work before I had a home computer.  It was authorized!!  If I tried anything it would probably be Scrabble as I love it.    Let us know how the parent/teacher conferences go.  Do you also have them for Luke now?

Sandi, sounds like a lot going on at your house.  Your story about the new kitchen faucet & being excited is perfectly understandable.  I saw one on an HGTV show the other day that you just touch to turn off & on!  I could easily adapt to that.  It also reminded me of one time when my Dad installed a new kitchen faucet in the house where we lived.  I came home late at night after a couple of drinks with friends.  I was trying to take a couple of aspirin (for preventive measures!) but couldn't figure out how to turn it on!  This was way back in the early 60's when they were first manufacturing faucets with only one handle to turn off & on & to switch from hot to cold.  It was really funny!  I think I ended up getting water in the bathroom!!  I'm sitting here giggling to myself remembering this!!  If Richard does go back to school he will probably take it much more seriously than he did when he was younger without the responsibility of being a parent.  I have a suggestion on your tires.  Several years ago the place where I have my car serviced & buy my tires suggested I put nitrogen in my tires.  The first time they suggested it I said no as there is a charge.  The next time I asked more questions about why you would do this as it was a completely foreign idea to me.  Something I had never heard about.  Now I always have nitrogen in my tires.  The reason being is that your tires will wear much better, last longer & there is very little leakage.  They have been doing this with race cars for many years.  More & more places are doing this.  The initial cost is about $5 a tire, a one time charge.  Your tire pressure only needs to be checked about every 6 months.  Well worth that small initial expense.  You still have to rotate your tires on a regular basis.  I do mine every time my car is serviced.    The place I go keeps track of the services so I am always up on any maintenance.  Enjoy the musical The Addams Family.  Sounds good.  I will look forward to hearing about how you like it.

Margie, our weather is definitely changing!  I saw the hail down in your area on the news.  We got a few bare sprinkles up here, more like a bit of mist!  That was in Santa Rosa.  It sounds like you are set for your garage sale.  I can't remember what they are saying about the weather for next weekend.  Hope it will be sunny but not hot.  Are you doing it just one day or both over the weekend?

Someone mentioned a cruise ship in San Francisco as unusual but it isn't.  The city loves having the cruise ships stop as it brings a lot of tourist $$$ to the area.  Tourism is one of the cities biggest economies.

Yesterday I buzzed down to Santa Rosa to buy a new battery for my camera.  I knew they had them in stock.  It is a specialized battery that you can only buy in a camera shop that sells the brand of camera I have.  Dang things are expensive!!  It cost as much as my new printer!  I guess I can't complain to much as the first one lasted over 2 years.  As you all know I take a lot of pictures!!  Maybe I was having withdrawal symptoms as I took the camera with me on my walk this morning.  I took pictures around town here so I can show you what this town looks like.  They will get here on the blog eventually!!  I may take some at Farmer's Market tomorrow.

Wednesday I got home from cat sitting.  Yes, I feel totally comfortable in the homes where I sit as I've been doing it for several years now for these 3 couples.  They all make me feel very welcome.  That feeling wasn't instantaneous but came about over time.  Of course I am still careful at each house because it isn't mine.  Each house has its own appeal.  It is sort of a vacation right here where I live!

I love spell check!!

If you love Robyn Carr I highly recommend reading her reissue of Blue Skies.  Did I mention this before?  Shoot maybe I did.  I won't go any further until I can check that.

Here is a picture still in San Francisco with my daughter.  A good shot of Alcatraz.  I've been out there, the view is amazing but for the most part the prisoners could not see it.  The place is decaying due to weather, normal aging, etc. but also when the Indians were occupying it in the 70's (or whatever decade it was) they did a lot of destructive things while living out there.  It is very interesting.  It also tends to be very damp & cold.

Enjoy the weekend.  Happy reading,
Donna M
