Hello my Friends,
I had no idea it had been so long since I've stopped to visit. No wonder I was missing all of you.
The picture above is Sorrel that grows in the forest under the Redwoods. It seemed a good choice though since they look something like Irish Shamrocks.
Mary, I'm happy to hear that your are healing okay from your dental work. You have had a rough time with the flu then the tooth extraction. Neither is much fun. Now you are getting nasty weather! At least you were able to get some reading done while you were down. It sounds like your trip to Maryland was good. Glad it went well. Are you gettting hit with this latest storm?
Margie, the bakery your friend got that bread at is Costeaux's. They have been written up in magazines like Sunset. Tony Bennett has been there, liked it so much he went again. I was sorry to hear he was in town & I missed seeing him! I think he was in the area for a concert. By the way, I think that bread is scrumptious!! I can eat three pieces of toast from it as it is so yummy & the bread is not a large slice. I don't buy it to often. We have another bakery in town that is equally as good. They both make wonderful breads, but different from each other. Downtown Bakery has also been written up in publications. The thing I like best there are the Sticky Buns as they are fantastic!! After I had my blood work done for my yearly cholesterol test & other tests I treated myself to a Sticky Bun. I'm happy to say that my cholesterol is doing good. Still not under a 100 but my doctor was pleased in general with everything including kidneys, lungs, liver all good. In fact he said my kidneys are like a much younger persons. Boy did I feel good coming out of his office! I'm still holding out not reading any of the Fifty Shade books!! I downloaded & printed a free ebook today by Amber Lin as I wanted to try one of her books. I believe it is an erotic or erotica!! It sounds like Gavin had a good birthday. I think Duplos & Legos are the best, can't go wrong with those as gifts for kids. All of my grand kids loved them.
Trudy, sounds like you are having some problems with your phone/Internet switch over. Did it all get solved? Mine was all done without having to wait for a service man. Loved that!! Also, I had to call the last two days as I got my first billing from the new company. Actually I got two! The first time I called with a question, should have asked another but didn't. Guess my brain was not in full function!! Anyway, I called about the two billing emails but I am only being charged once!! Thank heavens. I was going to be in trouble if for some reason I had to pay that amount twice. I love my new company because a live person answers the phone then they transfer you to another live person depending on what you need or want. The person I talked to about the billing was very nice. I won't be getting two emails anymore, it was just some kind of glitch in sending it to the same email address twice.
Sandi, I hope by now you are doing better with your dental issue. Sounds like it was better. I read so many posts I don't remember everything. I'm looking forward to seeing what Susan Wiggs new book is like. I enjoyed her Lakeshore series. Let us know how your review at work went. I imagine your co-worker that moved to San Diego was in somewhat of a shock $$ wise if she didn't do some research. My daughter & son in law can't afford to move back to California because it is so expensive here. I did not care for San Diego as it is just to big, to many people, to much traffic. That said there are some areas that are nice. Coronado Island is beautiful. I could get use to it but could only afford it if I won big on the Lottery or something!!
Amanda, I like the picture of your kitty! Cute! Are you getting hit with this latest nasty eastern storm? I use to read Tori Carrington's books but I hardly read any of the Harlequin lines anymore. I always liked their books because I knew it was a team of a man & wife so you were getting a different perspective in the story.
We finally are getting some more rain which is much needed. We aren't getting much but anything will help. At least it didn't rain while I was in Santa Rosa for my doctor appointment or running the errands I did while there. One of the things I did was go to Best Buy to look at laptops. I want a tablet but at this point I'm thinking I might be better off buying a new computer as this one I'm using is ancient in the tech world! The man that talked with me was very helpful & I learned a lot. If I get a laptop I can take it with me when I want. Not sure I want to read books on a laptop!
I have managed to read a couple of books since I was last here. One was Horse Soldiers which is non fiction & kind of a tough read. It is about a small group of Special Forces men that went into Afghanistan after 9/11. Some of it was hard to read, despite that it was good & interesting. The other book I read was Hell On Wheels by Julie Ann Walker. I liked it! It was book #1 in a series. She is a new to me author.
I had a short pet sitting job, just 3 days. I will be going back to the same place for a week on the 17th. They have a time share & will be going to Hawaii. Lucky them!! That said, our weather has been mostly good warm & nice until the last couple of days.
I'm yawning so I think it is time to say good night. I'll try to get here again before to much time goes by! The picture below is a wild Iris that grows over at the coast. Our wild flowers should be starting to bloom. I'm hoping to get some good pictures this year.
Good night all, may life treat you well.
Happy reading,
Donna M
