Saturday

I started taking notes about 3 days ago, and am finally getting to typing them, so if some of the things don't quite make sense, just disregard it.

I loved The Witness by Nora Roberts.  I read it -- all 488 pages -- in 2 days.  That could be why I've got sore shoulders now as it was so big and heavy, being a hardcover book.

Mary, you asked about my new bookcase.  It's big enough that it could hold close to 800 books, when full.  I've already got it about half full.  I went through the two small bookcases that it was replacing, and got rid of a huge bag of books -- took them to the library.  As the librarian was unloading them she'd see a book, and turn to me and say thank you.  She'd pull out another couple handfuls of books, see another one, turn to me again and say thank you again.  (the reason I was standing there waiting was because I'd used a rather large storage bag for the books, and I wanted it back.  Next time I'll just put them into grocery bags or something.

I now have my TBR pile(s) organized.  I know exactly what I have, and I even put them in the order I want to read them in.  Of course that could change. . .  I think I'm going to pull the books off the shelves in my closet (my keepers) and put them up there, too.  Then I'm going to go through all the books in the basement, bring up any I want to keep, and give the rest to the library, too.  That could take me all winter. . .

Donna M, I loved that seagrass picture -- you sure have a good imagination for taking good pictures!  I ended up not walking with the grandchildren.  I can't remember now why we didn't go.

That's awful about that lady's pumpkins all getting smashed.  At least she salvaged one -- but going to all that trouble for nothing.  I'd be furious!

The picture of the brown seed pods is so cool!

I hate driving in cities, too.  Around here the thing is to roll through stop signs or pretend the yellow light means "go faster", so you never know when someone's going to fly out in front of you

Cady, yes the bookcase was a really good deal.  I paid $7 for it, and I roughly estimated that to make from scratch would have cost me more than $50 just for the lumber.  Besides, it's more than twice the size of the two it replaced.

Donna M, a free bookmobile -- that sounds like something a person wouldn't mind donating to.

It's always sad when a person dies before they really should.  We were at the funeral of a good friend just yesterday.  He was 68, which seems very young to me (I'm 65. . .)  Just last week one of the women that my daughter works with was babysitting her newest, 2 month old, grandbaby while her daughter, who also works in the nursing home in a different wing, had taken her two older kids to buy their school supplies for this year.  Grandma went to check on the baby only to find it dead.  The wife of one of the fellows my daughter's significant other works with works in the ER.  She worked on the baby, but they couldn't bring it back.

Margie, that is so good that Gavin has settled down at preschool.  It took my grandson a whole lot longer than that to feel secure even in Kindergarten.

Donna M, that little pink flower is so cute -- reminds me of a kitten looking in the mirror and seeing a lion looking back.  This little wee bit of fluff standing up and trying to be fierce.

I remember a series of books I read a couple years ago.  Canada was where the stories took place, but the author had the h driving from Calgary to Toronto in about 2 hours, when in actuality it takes a good 4 days to drive that stretch.  And someone in the books flew from Vancouver to Toronto in less than an hour.  I don't know how long it takes to fly, but that would be a 5 or 6 day trip by car.  It was so farfetched that it ruined the series for me.  Had it been written about a place I didn't know, I wouldn't even have known that what she was writing wasn't physically possible.

Once again, your sunset picture is gorgeous!

I'm now reading the second to last of the Bullet Catchers series by Roxanne St. Claire.  I had been starting to get tired of them, but that little break for The Witness was just what I needed.  This one is actually about Lucy, the owner of the Bullet Catchers Security business.  I'm not sure if this book is the actual end of the series or not because I didn't read them in order.

The other night just as we're going to bed, Hardy started coughing and sneezing.  He coughed so hard that he finally decided to go sleep sitting up on the couch (our couch has really high, pillowy arms, so it's very nice to sleep sitting up on it).  Anyhow, for the last 2 days he's been hacking and coughing, sneezing, runny nose, the whole bit.  So guess who woke up this morning, coughing, sore throat, runny nose. . .  I could just whack him one.

I've been down to 175 lbs for the last 2 mornings!  That means I've got 3 weeks to lose 5 lbs -- which is my goal:  to be down to 170 lbs by the time we go to Edmonton for my mom's 90th Birthday.  I know I can do it -- in my head -- it's just the doing it that has to be done. . .

I've done nothing today but cut up and cook a large pail full of apples.  Lots of apple crisp and apple sauce for us this winter.  {:-)  But I just feel that now I need a rest. . .
