Sunday, 9/2/2012...

Good Afternoon Friends,

I hope you are all having a nice, sunny, lazy Sunday!  Yesterday I went to Farmer's Market, did laundry & cooked!  We had weather cool enough I did not mind being in the kitchen.  I made Tomato Chowder while I am getting all these yummy tomatoes at Farmer's Market.  It was very good.  Despite the fact that I was remiss in looking at the recipe to make sure I had everything it turned out tasty.  When I got ready to make the white sauce to add to the vegetables I discovered I had no canned milk (I usually use it in recipes) & not enough milk in the fridge to make it.  Like it or not I had to do a quick trip to the store for that one item, it was too late for the other & I managed on a skimpy amount of one ingredient.  Since I usually only make this once a year it was easy to forget something!!!  Live & learn.

The picture above is at Goat Rock beach south of the town of Jenner.  As you can see there is fog!  Even though there were a couple of cars in the parking lot I did not see anyone down on the beach.  It was delightful!!  When I parked then got out of the car I was disgusted to see banana peels on the ground when there were trash cans nearby.  After finishing my coffee I had a used paper napkin to pick up the banana peel to take to the trash can along with my empty coffee cup!  I just really don't get why people are so lazy & simply don't seem to care that they are trashing the environment.  Someone could have stepped on that getting out of their car, slipped & hurt themselves.  We were brought up to take it home for disposal if there wasn't a trash can available.  Okay!  I'll climb down off my soap box now.  :-)

Amanda,  belated Happy Birthday to Dave.  Hope you had a nice time going out for a drink.  The book you are reading sounds interesting.  I'll have to check into it.  Our library might have it.  I'm not sure what setting I was using the make the water so blue as I was trying several different things that day.  There is so much on the camera that I have never used I decided I better start seeing what those settings do.  Maybe I will have to start making a note of what settings I use so I know when I get the pictures onto the computer.

Donna H, did you have a good walk with the grand kids?  I don't understand people these days that seem to think vandalizing others property is okay & fun?  I just don't get it.  There was a story on the news last night about a lady that is 93 years old that had been growing large pumpkins in her front yard for a contest.  Someone came along during the night smashed them all.  Smart lady that she is there was one she was keeping in the garage that was around 100 pounds.  That one she had already picked.

Beside the other things I did yesterday I finished reading Scrumptious by Amanda Usen.  I believe this is her first book.  It is about a chef, two friends, a restaurant. A very enjoyable read for me & part of the reason I was in the mood to cook!  Not that I am anywhere near that caliber.  Some of the recipes are available through her website.  The one I would love to eat, but not make, is chocolate cheesecake with a chocolate, hazelnut crust, a garnish of whip cream, chocolate covered espresso beans & raspberries.  My mouth is watering just typing out the description!!!  I love cheesecake & this one is right up to my chocolate cravings!!  Probably gained two pounds just reading about it.  If it cools down I'm also in the mood to bake.  Yesterday was only in the 70's so it didn't get to hot in the apartment.  Today & tomorrow are suppose to reach into the high 80's or low 90's.  The cover below is a bit different than the one on the book I have but almost the same!!  Her next book is Luscious which is already out.

The Little League team in Petaluma is getting there celebratory parade today.  I think there are some other things going on also in connection with the parade.  Friday night they were guests of the Oakland A's for the game thanks to one of the players that grew up in Petaluma.  They got to catch balls thrown by the A's players before the game, they all got a baseball signed by all the players, watch the game from a sky box, then honored in a ceremony before the game started.  These boys are going to have a hard time settling back into normal daily life!!  Wonder what they will all do next Little League season?

This should catch me up for now.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend.  Lovely for those working to have that extra day then a short work week.  Cady, I hope your coming week won't be to hectic.  One more picture from the coast!  This one is just the ocean through the sea grasses.

Happy reading,
Donna M
