Good Afternoon to Everyone,
Another scenic view from the Arizona highway. I found all of this very fascinating since it was my first visit to the state of Arizona. Yes, there will be more!!!! :-) Look at that clear blue sky! No cities nearby. It was terribly smoggy when we were in Las Vegas. Not much traffic either, that was lovely.
My rash got worse not from the sun but from the heat. Because I was going out to dinner in the early evening after my doctor visit I did not want to wear shorts. I can't imagine what people would think if they saw my legs!! I don't wear shorts out in public much anyway as the thighs "ain't what they use to be"!!! Even though the place where we had dinner was very casual I was a bit dressy casual! After the doctor I had a few errands to run & it was a very warm day. The shirt I had on is a bit dressy & very light weight but not as cool as I thought it would be. I don't wear it often & had forgotten. I think it was warm enough it wouldn't have mattered much what I was wearing. Once I got to the mall where the place is air conditioned it wasn't to bad. Yesterday it was down right hot, in the 90's, and I put a cold compress on my legs several time throughout the day. Boy did that feel good!! It would have felt good without the rash. As you all know from past posts over the years, my apartment complex does not have air conditioning. When it gets into the upper 80's & hotter it is pretty miserable in my upstairs apartment that gets sun all day. I keep the shades down & my fans on. Once it starts cooling down in the evening I open up the blinds & leave them open some all night to get as much cool as possible. We also have windows on only one side so there is no cross breeze at night. Where I lived before was a duplex with windows on both sides so at least at night it got much cooler. One nice thing about this area is that our hot spells usually only last 3 or 4 days then the lovely bay area air conditioning (fog) moves in to cool it down. I've never lived anywhere with air conditioning so I am sort of use to it. I keep quiet, don't do much as the heat zaps what little ambition I have.
Cady, I hope Luke loved his first real game. Thanks for telling us about how excited he was. Enjoy the trip to Chicago to see your friend. Is it a long drive? How did the baseball games go?
Trudy, hang in there. Your grandson will probably love his calendar. I hope you do hear about it from him. I just can't imagine how your family treats you. My family has their faults but nothing like that. I know they are all there for me. How bad was Beryl in your area? I kept forgetting to email you to ask.
Well, my laundry is now finished!! I will wait until this evening for it to cool down before putting clean sheets on the bed. Right now it is just to warm. Once I finish this post I will so put the cold compress on my legs!
Earlier today I went over to pick up my chocolate from Belgium. It looks fine! Beside bringing me chocolate they gave me a $50 bonus for staying so late the day they came home & for dealing with giving the cat medication while they were gone. Such nice people. The cat can be a pain but they are both good people, good friends & good neighbors. With gas prices what they are & the fact that I am heading off on my trip the extra cash was a very nice surprise. I told her she did not need to do that.
Margie, I hope you can find a decent price on a hotel or motel near Disneyland. Have you tried Hotel.com? That is how I booked my motel in Williams, AZ., last year. I had very good customer service with them. There are not as many bargains in the summer because that is when families travel with their kids but I'm sure you will find something. When we went many, many years ago we were across the street & there was a free shuttle service. Across the street was actually several blocks by the time you crossed the street & the huge parking area at Disneyland. The shuttle was a wonderful bonus especially when you were ready to come back after standing in line & you had tired, cranky children. A lot of that has probably changed over the years. I would love to go back sometime as an adult with another adult that enjoys the rides, etc. When are you going?
Donna H, thanks for the good wishes. I know I will have a good trip. It is going to be cooler where I am headed tomorrow & I am soooooooo looking forward to that! When you mentioned that you barbecue all summer & even in the winter if it is raining I could relate. One of my friends has a BBQ on a small deck just outside the kitchen, there is an over hang that keeps the rain off & he will BBQ in almost any weather. It tastes extra yummy in winter or bad weather when that is not common.
This view was amazing! It looks like there is no way that opening is big enough for a car. We had to stop to take pictures. So did several others! We are still in Arizona heading toward Utah & the Lake Mead area. In the area around Lake Mead were all these signs for homes & some homes that we could see around the lake. Why anyone would want a home there is beyond me as it is desert, hot, no foliage or trees, barren, not my cup of tea! I'm strictly a west coast girl that is use to seeing lots of trees, greenery, flowers, etc. even though the California hills turn brown over the spring & summer we still have lots of trees, etc. it is not at all barren, not in this part of the state anyway. That is one reason to stay in the northern part of California. I'm sure I will have some pictures when I get back. :-)
I'm going to miss all of you. If I get a chance to check in I will. When I get back I will play catch up to see what everyone has been doing. Later alligator!!
Happy reading,
Donna M
