Happy Birthday Sandi!

Hello Friends,

Back at Kolob Canyon, Zion National Park.  This was a viewpoint stop!  It gives you a bit of an idea of the diversity of plants as well as the scenery.  The best part of this section of Zion is that it was a week day & there was hardly anyone there.  So glad we got to see this as you have to drive there.  The two parts of the park are not connected by a road, you leave the main part of Zion, head out toward St. George, Utah if I'm remembering correctly, until you come to the turn off for Kolob Canyon.  Another place I where I would like to spend more time.

Sandi, it sounds like you are having a good birthday.  Any special dinner plans?  If so enjoy.  How nice to be able to redo the kitchen, dejunk, reorganize.  Something that should be on the agenda from time to time.  When I moved in here because the kitchen is so small it made me really think about what I would be using.  Sadly I had to get rid of some pretty things such as serving dishes or things that I never use any more.  It was still hard to part with them.  Beside the kitchen cabinets there is a pantry/linen closet in the hall way.  I have it full!!!  Mostly of towels, bathroom products, storage of items I use consistently but either wouldn't fit in the kitchen or I don't use daily.  I also have my "holiday" towels, Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc.  They are dish towels that I have collected over the years so they only get used a week or so each year.  The Christmas ones get used the longest but I have more than one set.  Some of the towels I have had since my girls were little!!!  Clever idea using the shoe boxes for your organizing.  I love the Container Store.  The nearest one is about 50-60 miles away.  By the way, thanks again for letting us know about the Fresh Fiction daily contest.  Today's prize includes the new Nexus tablet.  I would love to have that!!  You can still vote for the DWTS celebrity of your choice.  The voting is open at ABC, DWTS website until August 24.  Been voting there also!!  But I don't remember every day.

Cady, sometimes it is such a mystery why schools do the things they do.  Making parents come twice when once would do the trick seems like it would be much easier on everyone & less trouble for the school officials/teachers involved.   The game for the Petaluma Little League team was broadcast here in this area yesterday.  Sadly they lost but it wasn't an elimination game.  I saw a portion of it.  It was fun watching.  One of the boys is 13 & already 6 ft. 3 in. tall!!  They said yesterday that he is a hard hitter!  They play today but this one isn't televised on a bay area channel.  It was reported that it might get rained out.  The Irish Festival sounds like a lot of fun.  It seems to me you have mentioned going other years.

Amanda, isn't it crazy how expensive it is to go to a pro any sport game?  Sorry it wasn't a good game.  Years, many years, ago when I got to go to a couple of the 49'er preseason games it was at least $100 for the day with all the parking, food etc.  Costs have gone up since then.  I can't imagine what it would be now.  I know someone that gave up their season tickets last year because it had just gotten so expensive.  She said since they weren't winning it just wasn't worth the expense.  Then they played very well last year!!  We laughed about that.  How close are you to the town where they have the Little League World Series?    Did you have fun at your friends?  No kids!  That is always a treat!!  It doesn't mean you don't like them or love them, it is so nice to have some time for you.

Donna H, so glad your wiener roast went well.  Sounds like it was fun if everyone stayed late visiting.  I have no doubt that you are a good hostess.  Glad to hear that you didn't need to clean the whole house when everyone was going to be outside.  Keep us posted on your daughter Jo's shoulder.  Hope the doctor has something encouraging for her.

This morning I had some sad news.  One of the dogs I take care of, Maxx a German Shepard mix, is gone.  I  knew he was nearing the end but wasn't sure.  They sent out a message that today was the day.  They have had him 15 1/2 yrs. which will leave a void for them.  It has been awhile since I saw Beth at the store or somewhere in town so I hadn't heard anything recently.

I think I told all of you that my daughter, the younger one that lives nearby, was climbing Mt. Shasta which is over 14,000 ft. high.  Well, she is back home sore, tired but glad she did it!  She did not summit (make it to the top) so she did not get to sign the book.  She did make it up over 10,000 ft.  I think she said she got up around 11,000 ft. & just could not do more than that.  She has emailed me some pictures which are interesting to see, one is a beautiful sunrise.  There are fires up there in the area & while they were on the mountain there was a storm with thunder & lightening.  She said it rained during the night before they started the climb.  She is more adventurous than I am!!!

This should catch me up for now.  I did read a book while I was pet sitting!  The title is Addicted to You by Bethany Kane.  Not sure I will read her again but I'm glad I tried it.  It is more in the erotic category.  Some of the encounters were not to my taste but the story itself was good.  There was a story & it did have a HEA!

See you all next time.  Happy reading,
Donna M
