Good Afternoon Friends,

This picture shows our first view of the ocean on the hike last Thursday.  It is that little darker blue patch between the hills.  As we are closer to the coast you can feel a difference in the air & it is breezier.

Amanda, your evening of dancing sounds interesting!  I am rarely out & about in the evening these days but I do like to study the "nightlife" when I go!!  Like you I see so many women wearing clothes better suited for a much younger person  That is in the daytime!.  So many seem to be obsessed with being young.  Looking good is fine but acting like you are 30 when you are 50 or older is another story!!  I am in favor of growing older gracefully.  Your daughter grew 4 inches in one year, that is quite a growth spurt.  Have a great time on vacation.  You will probably have stories to share with us.

Sandi, hope you enjoy your book club.  I always look forward to hearing about your chats with the authors. I think Googled Christie Craig but she only has ebooks.  I could be wrong I may have her mixed up with another author.

I finished the book I mentioned yesterday.  The title is Unorthodox, The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots, by Deborah Feldman.  It was certainly an eye opener into this particular sect of the Jewish religion.  Hasidic Jews live a very restrictive life, especially the women.  Not only do they have more laws than you can imagine women virtually have little say in their life or any sort of freedom.  I would never be able to handle that type of life.  The author couldn't either.  Can you imagine not having the freedom to read or to receive a decent education or pursue higher education if you wanted?  It was very interesting but now I need something very light!!

Today I went to do some shopping.  Mostly it was for necessary things but I did have a couple of books that I wanted.  I did manage to find the books but at two different stores & got all the other things I needed.  Now I am glad to be at home where it is quiet & people are not rushing around before the holiday tomorrow.  I have no plans tomorrow but I will watch fireworks on TV as I always watch A Capitol Fourth on the PBS channel.  They put on a great show.  I think two of the major networks also have fireworks shows on so I will probably catch those also.  There is nothing I normally watch on Wednesday night & since there is no mail tomorrow I won't get my DVD from Netflix.

I will say good bye for now with another picture from my hike.  This one is a close up of the trunk on an old eucalyptus tree.  There is great texture there.  I think this might of been several trees that grew together.

Happy July 4th to each of you.
I hope you find time to read,
Donna M
