Tuesday morning

Hi guys!

It is good to see it busy in here. I haven't been here for a few days so I had several posts to read. I have been watching the Olympics too. I saw all of the opening ceremonies and loved the Queen and James Bond and Paul McCartney! Don and I were very disappointed in the coverage last night of the men's gymnastic finals. They only showed half of the Americans events! I don't care if they didn't win I wanted to see them not the Chinese! What about family and friends of those young men who wanted to see them also? Sorry for the rant but that was not right IMHO.

As far as the Caprese salad recipe everyone has their own version but the basic ingredients are the same. We use the large mozzarella ball cut into slices and any kind of tomato you prefer sliced and the basil leaves torn into thin pieces. Then drizzle the olive oil and salt and pepper over everything. Some people like to chop everything up small but I like the large pieces to eat like an appetizer.

I finished an interesting book yesterday. It is called Firelight and is a debut novel by Kristen Callihan. It is the first in a series and does have paranormal elements. It has a fresh take on the paranormal which I like (no vampires or shape-shifters) and was pretty well-done for a debut author. I will be reading the next book in the series which I believe comes out today. I like some of these new authors--a good choice when some of your favorite authors are not writing as well as they used to. Not sure what I will read next.

Donna H--I hope you like all of the Angelinos books. The first was my favorite but I liked all of them.

Amanda--I guess it is time to admit the Phils are not going to the play-offs. We'll see what happens today as far as trades.

Donna M--as always I am enjoying your pictures. I am a couple of books behind with the Karen Rose books. Perhaps I will read one soon.

Cady--we are somewhat more hopeful about things at Penn State this week. There is still a long way to go as far as restoring their reputation but Penn State people are resilient. I was not a baseball fan either until recently when the Phils got better (except for this year) and we started attending games. I'm glad you liked What Angels Fear. I will be reading it soon.

Trudy--funny you should mentiong some of your glassware being made in western PA. We lived in Wash. County for 11 years and the glass companies were slowly going out of business by that time. Now they are gone. I had a good friend whose husband worked for the last one and he lost his job only a few years away from retirement.

Sandi--I hope your hand is ok now. Sounds almost like a gout or arthritis attack. I have the book Gone Girl on reserve at the library. I had heard it was a good read.

Don and Karen and I took the kiddos to the Reading Public Museum on Friday to see their dinosaur exhibit. It was very realistic and the noises actually scared the kids. Don loved it though. We visited all the permanent exhibits with the kids while he hung around the dinosaurs. The favorite room for me and the gks was the armor room where they had weapons from the middle ages and suits of armor. Lauren said she wished she could be a princess knight! Afterwards we went to Olive Garden for dinner which everyone enjoyed.

I hope everyone is having a good week.

Mary
